MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee woman accused of child abuse and neglect was sentenced on Wednesday, March 12 to six years in prison plus an additional ten years of extended supervision.
Before sentencing was handed down on Wednesday, Sandi Goodman pleaded guilty to a charge of physical abuse of a child. A second charge of neglecting a child was dismissed and read into the court record for the purposes of sentencing.
What we know
According to a criminal complaint, a 3-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with his skin "coming off" and blistering in October 2024. A doctor noted injuries all over the boy's body that included burns and bruises. The boy was immediately sedated and taken into surgery to have "significant burns" treated. Medical staff also noted what appeared to be older, healed burns on the boy's body.

"The injuries would have been extremely painful when they occurred and are outside of what would be considered reasonable discipline of a child," the complaint stated. "The healed and healing looped and linear injuries may be days or weeks old. The presence of acute patterned bruises to the left upper arm and extensive healed injuries confirms physical abuse on multiple occasions."
Detectives interviewed Goodman at her home. Prosecutors said she told them she was boiling water for noodles and went to the bathroom, heard screams and returned to the kitchen to find the child "jumping around and trying to get away from the water." In a later interview, she blamed other injuries on "bug bites" and denied ever using physical discipline.
Goodman agreed to let police search her cellphone and home. According to the complaint, the search uncovered a Sept. 30 text conversation in which she said she physically disciplined the child. Another conversation from Oct. 4 expressed concern that Child Protective Services was taking photos of the boy's chest.

Prosecutors said, between Sept. 23 and Oct. 5, there were internet searches on Goodman's phone that included:
"How to get rid of belt marks on a child"
"Does Neosporin help burns heal fast"
"Bugs that leave scratch marks"
"2nd degree burn staying in hospital reddit"
"How do you know if you have a warrant"
"Atlanta Single Family for Rent"

Copper thieves knock radio station off the air: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say copper thieves temporarily knocked a Hispanic radio station off the air when they stole $160,000 worth of copper wiring from the transmitter towers. On Sunday, May 18, WGSF Ambiente Radio 1030 AM lost its signal. When the station owner went to the transmitter towers on Jackson Avenue to find out what was wrong, he discovered the copper wiring was gone. According to the police, someone broke into the building housing the radio transmitter and stole copper cables and components. They also cut the copper wiring running underground to the radio towers. The fencing around the transmitters had also been cut, and someone had removed the copper components from the electrical box to the towers. MPD: Man steals over $60k worth of cereal Investigators said Kyle Walton, 35, Terrence Goodman, 32, and Jonathan Yarbrough, 52, were arrested after they were caught burning the copper cables in front of a house in the 1700 block of National Street, less than a half mile from the radio transmitter towers. A man who wanted to remain anonymous said he smelled the smoke before he saw several police cars pull up on his street. 'They dug a hole in the yard to burn it, 'he said. 'They caught them in the act of burning it.' Police said they received a tip that the individuals responsible for the copper theft were seen dragging copper cables toward National Street on the day of the burglary. Another tipster called a few days after the theft to report that several people were burning the cables. An engineer for the radio station estimated the cost to repair all the damage was around $160,000. Serenity Tower tenants relocated as city awaits building sale 'That's terrible, said the neighbor. 'They should suffer the consequences. You take a radio station off the air?' Police took four men into custody, but so far, only three are facing charges. Walton, Goodman, and Yarbrough were charged with burglary of a building, theft of property, and tampering with evidence. Yarbrough was released on a $5,000 bond, while Goodman and Walton are being held on $100,000 bonds. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. He is charged with six felonies related to the standoff and tactical situation. What's next The judge ordered a competency hearing, at which the doctor who submitted the report will appear, for August. The backstory The tactical situation started on the night of Thursday, May 8. It lasted nearly 38 hours and ended with the suspect – since identified as Novak – in custody on Saturday morning, May 10. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office said a man with weapons had barricaded himself inside a home and was "extremely dangerous." After Novak was taken into custody, the sheriff's office said there was no longer a threat to the public. According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, it all started with reports of multiple gunshots on Fox Glen Road. Deputies monitored the area but didn't hear any gunshots. Law enforcement was able to reach the man over the phone – who acknowledged he was playing loud music and firing weapons. The man then said he was going to keep playing music and would shoot anyone who came to his home. Further investigation determined the man was firing several guns – including an automatic rifle – in unknown directions, posing a "significant threat" to the community and deputies. The sheriff's office advised neighbors to shelter in place, specifically in the basements of their homes, due to the high-powered nature of the man's weapons. Negotiators tried to engage the man and deescalate the situation for several hours, but the sheriff's office said the man remained uncooperative and threatened to "go full auto" and kill anyone who approached. He provided further information that he was heavily armed and would use force against officers. The sheriff's office said the man was seen aiming a rifle toward law enforcement vehicles on multiple occasions. He was eventually taken into custody after the use of "non-lethal tactical resources." The standoff resulted in substantial damage to the home. The sheriff's office said a private construction company was contracted to stabilize and reinforce the structure so investigators could search inside, where they found multiple guns, among other items of significance. After he was taken into custody, Novak was taken to a behavioral health facility. He was later booked into the Ozaukee County Jail.
