Uttarakhand: All arrangements have been made for Hemkund Sahib yatra, CM Dhami welcomes devotees
The portals of Hemkund Sahib, situated at a height of over 15,000 feet above sea level, will open on May 25. The shrine is visited by lakhs of devotees every summer.
While speaking with media personnel as the first batch departed for the pilgrimage, CM Dhami said, 'The doors of Shri Hemkund Sahib will open on May 25. All the arrangements have been made for the devotees.'
'I thank PM Modi as the Government of India has approved the ropeway for Kedarnath and Shri Hemkund Sahib... The difficult journey will become very easy in the coming time... We welcome all the devotees coming from across the country and the world...,' the chief minister added.
Uttarakhand Governor, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), also welcomed the devotees and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and other administration for preparing the arrangements.
'We see it as 'Atithi Devo Bhava'. I thank the Chief Minister, the administration, and the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee for working so hard to make every devotee's visit successful...,' the Governor said.
Singh also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritising the Hemkund Sahib and Kedarnath ropeway projects.
Earlier today, CM Dhami urged the people to offer respect and salute Army personnel while on their way to the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib.
He highlighted that over 11 lakh devotees have participated in the Char Dham Yatra so far. He shared this during the flag-off ceremony of the first group of pilgrims embarking on the Hemkund Sahib Yatra from Rishikesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said, 'So far, more than 11 lakh devotees have completed their Darshan... The area of Shri Hemkund Sahib has a rich ecosystem. It is our pledge to protect the environment here. We have pledged to make this Yatra plastic-free. You are requested to follow the rules made by the ancestors during the Yatra.'
Dhami also highlighted the amenities provided by the government for the devotees' convenience. (ANI)

Sikh sarpanch denied entry to Red Fort on Independence Day over kirpan
Chandigarh, August 17 (UNI) A Sikh sarpanch from Nabha block in Punjab, invited to Delhi for the Independence Day celebrations, was denied entry to the Red Fort on August 15 for carrying a kirpan, a ceremonial dagger integral to the Sikh faith. Gurdyan Singh, an Amritdhari Sikh and sarpanch of Kalsana village, was among those honoured by the Jal Shakti Ministry for exemplary work in sanitation, including setting up solid and water treatment plants and public sanitation facilities in his village. Despite being invited as a VIP to witness the Independence Day parade, Singh was stopped at Gate 5 of the Red Fort by security personnel who cited restrictions on carrying the kirpan. Singh explained the religious significance of the kirpan, one of the five Sikh articles of faith (Kakars), but was told he could leave it outside and retrieve it later. Stating that his religion does not permit removing the kirpan, Singh chose not to enter. Instead, he briefly watched the parade from the general gallery with the public. Singh arrived in Delhi on August 13. On the day of the event, he reached the Red Fort metro station by 5 a.m. to avoid delays, but his efforts were met with refusal from security officials. Govt likely to set up corpus for strategic deepwater exploration
The government is planning to set up a corpus under the National Deepwater Exploration Mission to support strategic oil and gas exploration efforts in deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas. The exact contours of the plan are yet to be finalised, including the size of the corpus and its sources. 'The Prime Minister has emphasised upon the National Deepwater Exploration Mission where a corpus is identified by the Government of India for a focused and concerted strategy-driven exploration in deepwater and ultra-deepwater areas and Oil India Ltd (OIL) remains committed to this clarion call,' OIL Chairman and Managing Director Ranjit Rath said in an address to employees. Under the ninth round of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP) bidding, OIL has already secured 40,000 square kilometre area in deepwater and ultra-deepwater exploration acreages in Mahanadi and KG Basins, and it is going to launch the seismic 3D and 2D data acquisition very soon, he said. Rath added that PM Modi has stressed upon the National Critical Mineral Mission, under which a corpus has already been identified to enhance exploration and production and also overseas assets acquisition with identified PSUs, in which OIL is also reflected. The company is pursuing such diversified alternatives aligned with national priorities. 'We have recently diversified to critical minerals. We have bagged two blocks, including a graphite and a vanadium block in Arunachal Pradesh, and a potash block in Rajasthan. We are also looking at acquisition of overseas assets of critical minerals,' he said. Rath said the company is on track to meet production targets, but more needs to be done. OIL operates primarily in upper Assam where the market for natural gas is still constrained. He congratulated the OIL team managing the Rajasthan asset for achieving the fastest monetisation of the Bakhri Tibba Discovered Small Field (DSF) block. 'We are supplying 30,000 standard cubic metres of natural gas towards power generation from that field. A similar call of duty is emerging in Tripura. I would call upon the Tripura asset team to ensure that by March 31, 2026, or before, we are able to monetise the Tulamara DSF where we have already done the first well and we intend to drill three more wells soon,' he said. India's crude oil import bill last financial year stood at around $140 billion, with import dependence of 90 per cent in case of crude oil and 50 per cent in case of natural gas, as on May 2025. 'Every drop of crude oil extracted from the sub-surface is a huge contribution. Gone are the days when we used to get price realisation of $80-85 per barrel. The current realisation is only $66 per barrel, a drop of 22 per cent. That is why enhanced production matters,' he said. OIL is also working on mapping areas where potential exists for productivity enhancement with a focus on cost optimisation.
