Odessa Links fundraiser offers chance to win Bronco
Jan. 30—As a way to bring a little bit of Vegas to Odessa, Odessa Links is hosting a Tackling Homelessness Fundraiser featuring a Big Game Watch Party starting at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
The evening, with a Super Bowl theme, features a 2024 Sewell Ford Bronco Raffle. The winner will drive away in a 2024 Ford Bronco, donated by Sewell Ford. Raffle tickets are $50 each, and all proceeds benefit Odessa Links' Project Hope, which provides safe housing and resources for unhoused families. You need not be present to win.
"We're going to provide a lot of Super Bowl fun things to do. We're going to provide a tailgate party, tailgate food. We're going to have a lot of snacks, popcorn and and charcuterie boards, and snack baskets on the tables. We still have tables available. It's going to be a lot of fun to get together and compete. Half of the venue, or conference room, is going to be Kansas City Chief colors, and the other half is Philadelphia Eagles. It's going to be fun. I'm for the Chiefs," Executive Director of Odessa Links Andrea Quiroz said.
They will have a friendly competition with football boards that will also be part of the fundraiser. The prizes are gift cards, Quiroz said.
For the football boards, there are 100 squares. Everybody picks one, makes a donation and at the end of the quarter, they win that amount.
Project Hope houses homeless families while they work, create a self-sufficiency plan and set their family goals together.
"When they move in, they move into an empty unit or rental house. This funding is going to help with that. This funding is going to help us get beds and moving items," Quiroz said.
They also help with food while they wait for their program's assistance to kick in.
"We help out with child care so they can get a job," Quiroz said.
She added that she had just finished paying everyone's rent and bills in the Project Hope program.
Quiroz said the Bronco is a beautiful vehicle and it's in front of the Marriott.
"We're very fortunate to have Sewell Ford donate the 2004 Ford Bronco. It's right in front, so anybody can come and look at it ... It has a QR code on there, and then you can visit us on our website, Facebook; we're kind of everywhere right now just trying to raise these funds. We were raising the funds so we can help more families. We're averaging 15 to 18 calls per week, and I can only house a certain amount of people at one time, which is 25 families. Now we need funding just" to maintain, Quiroz said.
She added that the agency is really excited about the event.
"This is our first signature fundraiser," Quiroz said.
The idea came from Mariann Bagley, president of Odessa Links' executive board of directors. Quiroz said Bagley wanted to have a Super Bowl fundraiser.
"The great thing about this event is getting the awareness of what Odessa Links and Project Hope does for our community," Quiroz said.

He certainly has an impressive resume, posting back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons and leading the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024. Still, the Bills have been tentative to give the two-time Pro Bowler a salary of $15 million, as he has requested on social media. This dispute could in theory lead to Cook's time as a Bill nearing the end, either through a trade or Cook hitting free agency after the upcoming season. Advertisement Said Schefter on his podcast: 'It bears watching because you've got a guy who's unhappy with this contractual situation, who has basically disconnected himself from the organization, the city, put his house up for sale. I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon, and again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there by then, does James Cook show up for training camp?'' We think Schefter is overreacting here ... but not as much as Pro Football Network, which is proposing a trade that would bring the Buffalo running back to Dallas. "Cook offers proven production and the ability to carry a full workload. In an offense led by Dak Prescott and supported by a high-powered receiving corps, Cook could become the featured back Dallas needs,'' PFN writes. "The Cowboys also have the cap space to offer Cook an extension if he becomes a long-term fit.'' Responds Fish: "I don't think PFN exactly has the pulse of the situation here. Dallas will not - under virtually any circumstance - pay $15 million per year for a running back. to pretend otherwise is absurd.'' Advertisement The Cowboys are presently hoping some combination of Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Jaydon Blue gets the job done at tailback. There is another problem here: The Bills are trying to win a Super Bowl. And their backups (Ty Johnson and Ray Davis) are not equipped to do that on Cook's level. So Schefter's panic and PFN's silliness aside, the Bills and Cook truly need each other here. And just because Dallas could use a Cook-like back doesn't mean it's even close to the realm of possibility here. Coleman was not bad in his first season in Buffalo. He recorded an impressive 19.2 yard-per-reception average. That was one of the largest in the NFL last season. Despite his obvious deep-threat abilities, Coleman caught just 29 passes while battling multiple injuries. Advertisement If Buffalo is going to take a jump as a Super Bowl contender, they will need their second-year receiver to reach a new level of his game that he hasn't shown yet. Part of that will be focused on staying healthy. Coleman missed four games due to injuries last year. The other part, though, is with his consistency. The 22-year-old needs to be more consistent with catching the football (7% drop rate), and finding ways to get open. Coleman has all the tools to be successful with the Bills. It will be up to him, though, to see just how good he can be. And from his comments this week, it's clear that Coleman knows exactly what he needs to do.
