Why you should let data and not market beliefs guide your investment decisions
Modi believes that price is the most important factor in investing. He is credited with developing the AIRM (TM), an approach to screening stocks and businesses in a scientific manner. His role model is Warren Buffett.
Synopsis Contrary to the popular "Sell in May and go away" adage, data suggests Indian stock markets perform better from May to October, averaging 7.6% returns compared to November-April's 4%. Analyzing a decade of trends reveals May, June, and July historically show strong probabilities of positive returns. In God we trust, everybody else brings data to the table. It was originally framed by renowned statistician Dr. W. Edwards Deming. But in India, it was popularized by Mr. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys - indicating that while faith has its place, but in the world of markets and business - data beats noise.
ADVERTISEMENT There is a popular saying in the West that creates lots of noise when the month of May starts: 'Sell in May and go away.' The belief is that stock markets tend to underperform from May to October and do better from November to April. Since this is an age old adage nobody questions it.
From the above data, it's evident that despite the second half of the year being packed with major festivals and events, the six-month period from November to April delivered modest average returns of just 4%, with only 6 out of 10 years ending in the green.Surprisingly, the supposedly weaker period - May to October - performed significantly better, delivering an average return of 7.6%, with 8 out of 10 years showing positive results.
ADVERTISEMENT Let's go even deeper and examine the upcoming months individually (May, June, and July)
The data further reveals that the upcoming months - May, June, and July- have historically shown strong probabilities of delivering positive returns, reinforcing the importance of relying on data instead of market myths.
ADVERTISEMENT May, in particular, has performed well across the past decade, often kicking off the summer period on a strong note.As we've seen, markets are often clouded by assumptions and popular narratives. But when we remove the noise and look purely at data, a different perspective emerges - one of steady performance and resilience, even during months traditionally viewed with caution.

The recent market recovery, the return of foreign investors, and a decade's worth of historical trends all point to the same insight: short-term fear shouldn't drive long-term decisions. As responsible market participants one must rely on evidence, not emotion. This is the time to stay informed, stay objective, and let data - not outdated beliefs - guide our next move.

Air India plane crash: Baba Ramdev points to ‘foreign conspiracy', mentions Turkish agency
Two days after an Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed over 260 lives, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday suspected a possible 'foreign conspiracy', alleging the involvement of a Turkish maintenance agency whose contract with Indian airports was terminated last month. 'I got to know that an agency from Turkiye used to take care of the maintenance and service of the aircraft. India will have to keep a close eye on the aviation sector,' Ramdev told ANI news agency. 'There is a possibility of a conspiracy by that agency.' Without providing any evidence for his claims, Ramdev said that India must stop allowing foreign companies to interfere in such sensitive matters. Five foreign universities awarded LOIs to set up campuses in Maharashtra's Educity
As five foreign universities were awarded Letters of Intent (LOIs) on Saturday to set up their campuses in Maharashtra's Educity — a 250-acre facility to come up near Navi Mumbai International Airport, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that world-class global education will now become available to Indian students in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The CM was speaking at the 'Mumbai Rising: Creating an International Education City' event at Hotel Taj. The LOIs were awarded to the five foreign universities in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmedra Pradhan and officials from the University Grants Commission (UGC), which has drawn up regulatory policy for Foreign Higher Educational Institutions wanting to set up campuses in India. Pradhan said nine foreign universities have already been given permission to set up campuses in various parts of the country. And six more are in the pipeline. 'While our criteria was that all these universities are among the top 500 global ranks, most of those approved are from among the top 100 global ranks. India is becoming a destination for education and all this is made possible due to the National Education Policy NEP 2020.' Fadnavis highlighted the state government's plan to turn Mumbai into a global education hub with Educity, which will be a global education destination with infrastructure planned for 10 world-class universities. Fadnavis said five more foreign universities are to set up campuses in Educity, but their names are yet to be finalised. He added, 'Biggest benefit of this is to many youngsters from India who are not able to accomplish their dream of studying abroad due to inaccessibility or unaffordability. But now that these universities are going to be in Mumbai, Indian students will be able to accomplish their dream of foreign education with a 23-30 per cent lower cost.' Stating that this education hub aims to contribute to the growing economy of the country by providing a global workforce, Fadnavis also announced plans of setting up an innovation city in the same vicinity, which will be dedicated to encouraging the research ecosystem. 'Existence of these global universities near the innovation city will foster collaborations between academic research and industry innovations, creating the next generation of tech and other sector innovators,' he said. Reiterating how world-class education will be affordable and accessible to Indian students with foreign universities setting up campuses in India, Pradhan said, 'The entry of foreign universities will accelerate India's progress in education and development.' All these universities will enjoy full autonomy in deciding the curriculum, fees, programmes, course content, faculty recruitment among others. The affirmative reservations applicable in other higher education institutions in India will not be applicable to these universities. It will be up to the universities and their policies on whether they want to provide any scholarships. 📌 University of Aberdeen (UK): One of the oldest universities in the UK, it becomes the first Scottish university to establish a campus in India 📌 University of Western Australia (Australia): Part of Australia's prestigious Group of Eight (Go8), it will offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in high-demand STEM fields — science, engineering, and industrial sectors 📌 University of York (UK): A leading research-intensive institution and a member of the Russell Group.
