Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are in a fierce competition for Neo Rapoo, SuperSport United's highly-rated 19-year-old left-back.
Rapoo's rise through the ranks has been nothing short of meteoric. After a standout season with SuperSport and an instrumental role in guiding South Africa's U20 side to the Africa Cup of Nations title, the young star has cemented his status as one of the most exciting defensive talents in the country.
While scouts from Scandinavia and the Gulf have expressed interest, domestic interest is heating up rapidly. A source within SuperSport has confirmed that both Chiefs and Pirates are 'seriously after' Rapoo, who is widely tipped to become a future Bafana Bafana regular.
'Yes they are both (Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates) interested but SuperSport would prefer to sell to a European club,' a reliable insider revealed.
'But an offer has not come through yet. Also, the boy only has one season left on his contract, so there is a risk of losing him on a free next season.'
Orlando Pirates' urgency stems from recent changes in their defensive line. With Paseka Mako released and Innocent Maela retiring, the Buccaneers have made left-back a top priority. Rapoo's pace, composure, and attacking instincts fit the mould of what the club needs moving forward.
Kaizer Chiefs have also identified Rapoo as a long-term solution for a position that has consistently troubled them in recent seasons. With a rebuild underway and a renewed focus on youth, the Amakhosi see Rapoo as a perfect fit for their new project.

'Al Ahly appreciate their coaches more than Chiefs and Pirates'
Former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane feels Al Ahly fans appreciate their coaches more than Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. The 60-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Iran earlier this year. Having spent three years at Al Ahly, Mosimane has been well celebrated in Egypt, where he won numerous trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles. 'I think I am more appreciated a little bit outside than in my country, but yes, I am loved in the country,' he told SuperSport TV . 'You see, every time I move around, people give me respect, and I am humbled. It is the game of football that has given me that chance, but in Egypt, it is another story, and that is [Al Ahly], the biggest club, one of the biggest clubs in the world.' Pitso has mentioned South African football culture, where supporters are not intrigued by local coaches upon meeting them. Springboks: List of Backs likely to be sent home
Rassie Eramsas will be trimming his 55-man Springboks training squad. These backs will likely be cut. Springboks head coach, Rassie Erasmus has confirmed that he will be sending players back to their clubs following the commencement of the URC final between the Bulls and Leinster on Saturday, 14 June 2025. Therefore, a few players in the current training squad will be going home. Let's take a look at the backline stars likely to return to their clubs.
