At ‘Gaza Riviera' event, Smotrich calls for annexation, resettlement

Roya News22-07-2025
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called for what he termed a 'security annexation' of northern Gaza and claimed that 'Israel's' military chief supports the idea, according to The Times of Israel.
Speaking Tuesday at a Knesset conference titled 'The Gaza Riviera – From Vision to Reality,' Smotrich said there is a 'tremendous opportunity' to begin reestablishing Jewish settlements in the Strip.
'We should start with the northern border and establish three communities there,' Smotrich said. 'We are already talking about it. Some call it a 'security annexation.''
He added that IOF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir 'said last week that there needs to be a security annexation.'
Smotrich also declared: 'We have strong support from President Trump to turn Gaza into a prosperous region, a coastal city with settlement and employment. This is how peace is made. There is really an opportunity to think big. This is possible and realistic. I am completely optimistic. To conquer Gaza and settle it as an integral part of the State of Israel and the Land of Israel.'
The conference title referenced a controversial proposal floated by US President Donald Trump earlier this year, in which he envisioned turning Gaza into a 'Riviera of the Middle East' while publicly encouraging the displacement of Palestinians from the territory.

Three 'Israeli' soldiers injured in military vehicle crash near Gaza border

Hebrew media reported that three 'Israeli' soldiers were injured on Sunday after a military vehicle overturned near the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Gaza. Separately, more than 600 former 'Israeli' security officials sent a letter to US President Donald Trump, urging him to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza. Among those 600 officials are former top 'Israeli' security officials, ex-Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, ex-Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon, and former deputy IOF chief Matan Vilnai. In the letter, the officials argued that military objectives have largely been achieved, and that further goals, particularly returning 'Israeli' captives, can only be reached through negotiations. They urged Trump to help end the war and support a regional coalition to stabilize Gaza, led by Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and a reformed Palestinian Authority. Meanwhile, Palestinian medical sources reported that 79 people have been killed by 'Israeli' fire since dawn Sunday, including 41 individuals who were attempting to receive humanitarian aid.

20-year-old Palestinian detainee dies in "Israeli" prison

The Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority informed the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Club on Sunday of the death of 20-year-old administrative detainee Ahmad Saeed Salah Tazaz'a from Jenin in 'Israel's' Megiddo prison. He had been held since May 6, 2025. No details were provided about the circumstances of his death. The two organizations said Tazaz'a's name has been added to the growing list of Palestinian detainees who have died amid what they called a systematic campaign by 'Israel's' prison system, through torture, medical neglect, and starvation, especially since the start of the ongoing war in Gaza. They noted that Megiddo prison, where Tazaz'a was held, has seen particularly grave violations, including the spread of scabies, which they described as a tool of slow execution used by the prison administration. Tazaz'a's death brings the number of known detainees who have died since the war began on October 7 to 76, and the total number of Palestinians who have died in "Israeli" custody since 1967 to 313, according to documented data. Many others remain forcibly disappeared, the report said. The Commission and the Prisoners Club warned of a continued and deliberate policy of 'slow killing' inside prisons, stressing that almost every month now sees the death of at least one detainee due to abuse, neglect, or medical mistreatment. They described the death of Tazaz'a as part of a broader campaign of "Israeli" brutality against detainees, and held the occupation fully responsible. They urged international human rights bodies to take concrete action to hold "Israeli" officials accountable for what they described as war crimes, and to end the exceptional impunity granted to "Israel" by the global community.

Former 'Israeli' security chiefs urge Trump to end Gaza war

Three former top 'Israeli' security officials, ex-Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, ex-Shin Bet chief Ami Ayalon, and former deputy IOF chief Matan Vilnai, have called on US President Donald Trump to intervene and pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza. The appeal, part of a letter first shared with the Jerusalem Post, was issued by the group 'Commanders for Israel's Security' (CIS), which includes over 600 former senior figures from 'Israel's' defense and diplomatic institutions. CIS warned that delaying such an offer risks the lives of captives and harms 'Israel's' international legitimacy. They also stressed that 'Israel' must accept a ceasefire in exchange for the release of all captives, a deal Hamas has repeatedly proposed. Netanyahu, however, has rejected this approach, citing concerns over Hamas' resurgence and pressure from his right-wing coalition. Despite opposition parties offering support for such a deal, he remains unwilling to consider giving the Palestinian Authority a role in Gaza. CIS maintained that a clear ceasefire offer is vital to demonstrate that 'Israel' has exhausted all options to bring its captives home.
