Oman to host 36th Arab TT Club Championship in Muscat
The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) is gearing up to host the 36th edition of the Arab Table Tennis Club Championship in Muscat staring from August 30 to September 4. The prestigious tournament will take place at the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher and is expected to witness the participation of elite table tennis clubs from across the Arab countries.
This highly anticipated event comes eight years after Oman's successful hosting of the Arab Table Tennis Championship for national teams in 2017 and reflects OTTA's growing reputation as a reliable and experienced organiser of regional and international table tennis events. The tournament is held under the umbrella of the Arab Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) and features some of the top-ranked clubs in the region.
The ATTF has officially invited all its member federations and associations to nominate their top clubs to participate in the tournament. Each country may send up to three clubs in the men's and three in the women's categories. Representing Oman in this championship will be Salalah Club, Ibri Club and Seeb Club, who earned their spots by finishing as the top three teams in last season's national league competition.
According to the ATTF, the deadline for club registrations is August 15 and participating teams will be permitted to include one foreign professional player provided they meet specific criteria, including the submission of an international transfer certificate and an official registration letter from the club. All matches will adhere to the regulations set by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
The tournament will be contested under the modern Cup Swiss format, which ensure competitive matchups and fair opportunities for all teams. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in both the men's and women's categories, including trophies, medals and certificates of recognition. The officiating team will include international referees, led by Zaki Khalid from Egypt as the chief referee and Hashim al Salmi from Oman as his assistant, alongside other top-ranked Arab and Omani referees.
Mohammed al Jassasi, OTTA Board Member and Tournament Director, expressed pride in hosting the championship. ' This tournament will act as an ideal opportunity for our local clubs to gain valuable experience and exposure by competing with high-ranking Arab clubs that feature top ranking and skilled players. It is a great chance for the clubs to have a technical development and growth', he said.

Summer Football Programme concludes in Muscat
MUSCAT: The Football Training Centre concluded its activities as part of the Summer Sports Days Programme in Muscat Governorate, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), with a five-a-side football tournament featuring the participation of 50 players. The tournament was marked by a high level of challenge and competitiveness, with players showing notable improvement in performance and skills thanks to the intensive training programme that spanned a month and a half since its launch on June 29. He noted that the participants demonstrated commitment and discipline throughout the training period, with great support and encouragement from parents who were keen to follow their children's progress. Al Subhi pointed out that the centre's conclusion coincided with the wrap-up of other training centres last week, the most notable being the Women's Training Centre, which, for the first time, saw a record participation of 230 girls, reflecting the growing interest in women's sports. The Gymnastics Centre also concluded, attracting participants of various ages, along with the Tennis and Table Tennis Centres, which had a more recreational focus aimed at fostering a love for sports without competitive pressure. He also explained that the management introduced a new Tennis Centre this year in cooperation with the Oman Tennis Association, where a mini indoor tennis court was set up to overcome the summer heat. The centre received a remarkable turnout, and the association was able to identify several promising talents, with plans to monitor and develop them in the future. Al Subhi highlighted that the training centres focused on utilising young Omani talents in coaching and administration, in cooperation with the College of Education at Sultan Qaboos University (Physical Education Department) as well as physical education teachers, which enriched the training experience and enhanced the professional development of the supervisors. He concluded by pointing to upcoming events in Muscat's Summer Programme, including the 'Sports Caravan', which will take place in Qurayat in mid-August. This travelling event aims to promote physical activity in local communities. Additionally, the major annual event 'Ghaya'tuh Namshi' (Its Goal is to Walk) will return at one of the major shopping malls in a more comprehensive format this year, featuring interactive sports stations and family competitions.

Football coach Queiroz sets World Cup qualification as top priority
Muscat – Newly appointed head coach of Oman's national football team, Carlos Queiroz, has set a clear objective – securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Speaking during his introductory press conference in Muscat on Tuesday, the Portuguese coach outlined his strategy and called for national unity in pursuit of what he described as a historic opportunity. 'We cannot lie to ourselves. If we lie to and deceive ourselves, we will not be able to achieve success,' Queiroz said.
