Agartala, May 7 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the government is planning the deployment of special executives (civil police) as tourist police in all the tourist spots to facilitate tourists. 'We have seen the 35 years of rule of CPI (M) and Congress. He said the government has planned to invest Rs 67 crore in Chabimura to attract tourists. 'We have a plan to introduce tourist police for the tourists, and soon we are preparing special executives and will see whether we can deploy them there or not. People want peace, and they don't want disturbance,' said Dr Saha. The Chief Minister further informed that the state government is working to open a tertiary eye hospital, and for that, land has also been identified in Agartala for a 100-bed facility. MPD: Officers find chop shop, guns, drugs at Raleigh home
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Raleigh man is facing 49 criminal counts after police say they found a chop shop, drugs, and guns at his home. Raphael Thorton, 33, was booked in the Shelby County Jail on charges of theft, vandalism, violation of the chop shop law, possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and firearms. On Wednesday, members of the MPD Auto Theft Task Force assisted Memphis Code Enforcement with a complaint about several inoperable vehicles parked at a residence in the 1300 block of Parkland Road. Police said when they arrived, they found a stolen 'chopped' 2016 Dodge Charger behind the house and a stolen 2015 white Dodge Charger in the driveway. They said multiple vehicle parts from the 2016 charger had been affixed to the 2015 charger. Thursday, several vehicles were still parked in the driveway and in front of the house. Some car parts and an automobile without doors were also visible in the backyard. A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he saw lots of police at the house but had no idea what was going on. 'They had a lot of wreckers, about three wreckers,' he said. ' They pulled a lot of cars out of the driveway, but they ended up putting them back in the driveway.' ATTF detectives seized 11 weapons from the residence, including an AK-47 and a handgun with an illegal Glock switch. Police said they also confiscated loose marijuana, marijuana cigars, THC-infused edibles, a mushroom-like substance, and a street drug called 'lean.' Detectives said they located a large marijuana plant drying, along with a growth tent, lights, chemicals, and fertilizer used to manufacture marijuana. Thorton allegedly told officers the drugs were for his personal use. Police said Thorton also claimed he bought the 2016 white Dodge Charger from someone off the street for the windshield only and had no idea it was stolen. The Charger was reported stolen the day before Christmas and was worth about $28,000. Thorton is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. German regulator charges Apple with abuse of power over app tracking tool
BERLIN (Reuters) - The German antitrust authority has charged Apple with abusing its market power through its app tracking tool and giving itself preferential treatment in a move that could result in daily fines for the iPhone maker if it fails to change its business practices. The move follows a three-year investigation by the Federal Cartel Office into Apple's App Tracking Transparency feature, which allows users to block advertisers from tracking them across different applications. The U.S. tech giant has said the feature allows users to control their privacy but has drawn criticism from Meta Platforms, app developers and startups whose business models rely on advertising tracking. "The ATTF (app tracking tool) makes it far more difficult for competing app publishers to access the user data relevant for advertising," Andreas Mundt, cartel office president, said in a statement. Apple defended the feature in an emailed statement to Reuters, adding that it "holds itself to a higher standard than it requires of any third-party developer." "We ... will continue to constructively engage with the Federal Cartel Office to ensure users continue to have transparency and control over their data," it added. Apple will be required to address the concerns set out in the German charge sheet or risk further proceedings and daily fines if it fails to do so by the time of a final ruling which could come this year but is more likely to land next year. The case was triggered by complaints from associations representing publishers, broadcasters, advertisers, their agencies and ad tech firms. "Today's charges are groundbreaking. Apple's measures had created an artificial opacity in its ecosystem that led to less choice, higher costs for apps, and less protection against ad fraud, all while boosting Apple's revenues from services," said Thomas Höppner, partner at law firm Hausfeld, which represents the complainants. "For the first time it has been clarified that Apple may not rely on pretextual privacy arguments to massively restrict competition in its favor," he said. Companies found guilty of breaching Germany's antitrust rules risk fines as much as 10% of their annual turnover.

Apple Faces German Scrutiny for Alleged Self-Preferencing in App Tracking Rules
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been notified by Germany's antitrust authority, the Bundeskartellamt, regarding potential violations tied to its App Tracking Transparency Framework (ATTF). The regulator raised concerns that Apple's rules impose stricter requirements on third-party apps than on its own services, which may constitute self-preferencing under German competition law. Since ATTF's launch in April 2021, app providers in Apple's iOS App Store have been required to obtain additional user consent for data tracking. However, the Bundeskartellamt argues that Apple does not apply the same strict rules to itself, creating a possible competitive imbalance. Apple now has the chance to respond to these allegations. Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt, stated that Apple's framework makes it harder for rival app developers to access user data for advertising. The case falls under Germany's extended abuse control laws, which Apple has appealed to the Federal Court of Justice. The appeal remains pending. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.
