Tahfiz students with 10As to receive full scholarships at UniKL, UPTM

AYER KEROH: Tahfiz students who score 10As and above in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) will be offered full scholarships if they pursue further studies at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Poly-Tech Mara (UPTM).
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would propose the idea to Mara management in discussions with its chairman, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, soon.
"This 100 percent scholarship has already been implemented by the Mara Education Institute (IPMA) for outstanding students, and for UniKL and UPTM students, we will prioritise tahfiz students this year," he said.
"Besides becoming huffaz or Quran memorisers, they will also become professionals after graduation," he said after officiating the Huffaz Graduation and Ulul Albab Excellence Appreciation Ceremony 2025 for Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Ulul Albab Melaka at Mudzaffar Hotel.
Also present were the school's board chairman and member of the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM), Prof Datuk Dr Mizan Hitam, and Melaka Mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil.
A total of 82 students who completed memorising all 30 juz of the Quran last year, along with 46 high-performing SPM students, received certificates of appreciation at the event.
Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025, to be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) from June 11 to 13, will feature new elements.
He said these will include electric vehicles (EV), information technology (IT) and e-sports.
"We will offer wide-ranging opportunities to potential participants or students at the TVET celebration to view exhibitions and explore the opportunities they can gain by enrolling in TVET institutions across the country," he said.
"At the same time, they will also be able to see for themselves the job prospects and salary scales they can expect after graduating from these TVET institutions," he said.

Zahid urges Muslims to embrace Day of Arafah blessings

KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with the Day of Arafah, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on Muslims to reflect, purify their hearts, subdue their egos and strengthen their relationships with others and Allah SWT. The Deputy Prime Minister said the 9th day of Zulhijjah each year is a profoundly special day in the Islamic calendar, as it is filled with blessings, forgiveness and mercy from Allah SWT. "Let us guard ourselves, uphold good conduct, and strive to be individuals who bring benefit to others. May we all be granted abundant forgiveness and mercy on this Day of Arafah, insya-Allah," he said, extending Day of Arafah greetings to Muslims in Malaysia and worldwide. He also encouraged Muslims in the country to seize the blessings of this day by observing the sunnah fast of the Day of Arafah, in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW, and to increase their prayers, recite the zikir, seek forgiveness and give charity. Ahmad Zahid also prayed for a safe and blessed journey for those travelling back to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha with loved ones. The Day of Arafah, observed on the 9th of Zulhijjah annually, holds great significance, particularly for haj pilgrims, as it marks the day of wukuf in the plains of Arafah, the pinnacle of the haj pilgrimage. - Bernama

Malaysia committed to strengthening strategic cooperation with UNDRR

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is committed to strengthening strategic cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to address increasingly complex disaster challenges, particularly those related to climate change and community resilience, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Ahmad Zahid, who is leading the Malaysian delegation to the eighth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) in Geneva on June 4 and 5, said the matter was discussed during his meeting with UN assistant secretary-general Kamal Kishore, who is also head of UNDRR, at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG) today. 'This meeting is highly significant for Malaysia, particularly in our efforts to strengthen strategic collaboration with UNDRR in facing increasingly complex disaster challenges, closely linked to climate change and community resilience,' he said in a statement on his official Facebook page. He said the discussions also touched on the potential development of a National Disaster Risk Reduction Act, smarter early warning systems, more accurate flood risk mapping, as well as strategic investments in education and community awareness. Ahmad Zahid shared Malaysia's experience in dealing with the severe floods at the end of last year, which affected over 150,000 people in nine states, stressing the importance of long-term planning and science- and data-based preventive measures. Meanwhile, Kishore praised Malaysia's swift action through the SMART team in its recent humanitarian and search-and-rescue mission in Myanmar, which he said reflected Malaysia's leadership in the ASEAN context. Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia had expressed its readiness to take on a greater role within the framework of regional cooperation under the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) during its ASEAN chairmanship, particularly in enhancing regional disaster preparedness and resilience. 'God willing, through smart partnerships with UNDRR and global partners, we will continue striving to ensure that this country's policies protect lives, safeguard the well-being of the people, and build a more resilient future,' he said.
