The "Shrek 5" Teaser Trailer Has Sparked Serious Debate Over The Character's New Look

Buzz Feed27-02-2025

The wait is almost over! Shrek 5 is on the way.
On Feb. 27, a Shrek 5 teaser trailer dropped, announcing the new cast for the long-awaited sequel set for release Christmas 2026.
Zendaya's voicing Felicia, one of the three triplets. If you remember, her brothers are Fergus and Farkle.
It's been 15 years since 2010's Shrek Forever After and almost 25 years since we were first introduced to the adventures of Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona.
There's been several spin-offs and specials, including the sequel to 2011's Puss in Boots, The Last Wish (2022).
With that being said, it means everyone is older!
Universal
As one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time, people have become very attached to the characters and take the swamp dwellers' future seriously.
Following the teaser trailer, folks caught some notable differences in the character design since we last saw Shrek on the big screen, and it sparked a huge debate online.
This person said, "Something about the animation just doesn't scream Shrek, looks too 'generic 2025 animation' imo."
x.com
Another person used the discontinued CGI Sonic from the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog movie to convey their astonishment over the character design.
And this person asked if they could "bully dreamworks to change the shrek 5 animation like we did to paramount to change sonic's animation?"
@THEHORROGOTH / x.com
"What happened to the animation? The animation was fantastic with the previous versions. Hopefully they improve it before release," another person said.
@ListeningToAbel / x.com
Another person hoped "this scene is just an edit for the teaser and not actually in the film."
On the flip side, other people don't think it's a big deal at all.
"What? They look the same except older lmfao y'all need to calm down," one person wrote.
Other people are suggesting waiting until the full trailer drops before they "judge on the designs" but appreciate the aging up, unlike other animated movies.
@OOCCouchGags / x.com
Another user made a valid point, writing, "I get why people felt like the redesign was unnecessary, but I feel like it's a little overused and sticking with the same thing a 5th time may be repetitive. Plus it works well with the updated animation. Also he's an ogre, of course it's gonna look a little uncanny."

Anna Sawai wrote Zendaya a letter after they accidentally twinned at the Met Gala

Anna Sawai sent Zendaya a letter and a gift after their viral twinning moment at the Met Gala earlier this month. Zendaya's stylist Law Roach revealed that the Oakland actor sent Sawai flowers after they made headlines for wearing similar white suits to the New York event. The thoughtful gesture then inspired Sawai to respond in kind. 'The thing is, she didn't even have to send me flowers, but she did because she just is that kind of person where she's trying to spread kindness, and I thought it was really cool,' Sawai told Elle in an interview published Wednesday, May 28. 'I wrote her a letter and sent her something back because I want to be like that.' Despite some of the internet discourse seeking to pit the actresses against each other, there appears to have been no hard feelings between the stars or their teams. Karla Welch, Sawai's stylist, immediately took to Instagram after the Met Gala red carpet to praise Roach's creative vision. She even joked that she and Sawai were paying homage to Zendaya. Though Roach was initially caught on camera rolling his eyes at the twinning moment, he clarified in a later interview that 'it wasn't any disappointment,' emphasizing that 'they both looked great.' 'People like to make up stories like that because it's a little bit more interesting than people who are getting along,' the ' Shogun ' actor told Elle. She went on to reveal that although the Met Gala moment was an accident, she does regard Zendaya as one of her style icons. 'I love Zendaya's style so much. I think she's so stylish, so fun on carpets. She always has this amazing theme — if she's promoting a movie, then she's wearing something that's related to that movie,' Sawai said. 'But then in her day-to-day life, I feel like … she's also just a simple gal, and I really just look up to her.'

'Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife.' Kayse looked back on Ed's career in Hollywood that included over 130 movies, TV shows and commercials, writing, 'With this wide ranging body of work, he leaves behind legacy full of questionable lighting and amazing one-liners.' The tribute continued, 'Ed's favorite role was that of the 'fun uncle.' His love language was sharing his love of the entertainment industry and the magic of Hollywood with his nieces.' 4 Ed Gale attends The Hollywood Show held at Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
