Possible Plot for Shrek 5 Describes a Reverse-ISEKAI Plot

DreamWorks had already dropped a first teaser for Shrek 5 , but we still don't know what kind of story to expect with the movie. Rumors have been going around that it would have something to do with Shrek and Donkey coming to the 'real world', and another rumor suggests that could be the case. According to @MyTimeToShineH, this could be the synopsis for Shrek 5 : 'Shrek's daughter (played by Zendaya) practices magic and accidentally transports Shrek and Donkey to the real world. And now they must find a way back because she doesn't know the spell to bring them home' Admittedly, MTTSH has had a lot of missteps in the past, but they did make the point that they did accurately scoop that Zendaya was up for the role of Shrek's daughter back in February. With the Shrek movies all going through the motions of Shrek's life from meeting his in-laws to becoming a parent, a lot of fans were sure that the story was going to involve Shrek clashing with his daughter about her wanting to get her own life and Shrek not ready to let go. I don't really know how a Shrek and Donkey adventure in the real world could have some relevant emotional arc for the characters, but I am willing to let DreamWorks cook. The Shrek franchise is probably one of their most popular, and if they're going to take it out of hibernation, they better have a great story. Shrek 5 is expected to come out in theaters on Dec. 23, 2026.

Johnny Depp Looks Totally Different 3 Years After His Courtroom Comeback

Three years after his headline-making trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp popped back onto Hollywood's radar — and he's rocking a brand new look. On Monday, April 14, Lionsgate dropped the first photo from Day Drinker, an upcoming thriller currently filming in Spain. In the image, the 61-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor is barely recognizable — dressed in a navy suit, holding a drink, and staring off-camera with silver hair tied back and a full gray beard. More from Spin: Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Major 'Sister Act 3' Update Zendaya Surprises Fans with 'Shrek 5' Role in New Trailer Anne Hathaway Credits Christopher Nolan With Reviving Her Career According to the film's official synopsis, Day Drinker follows a private-yacht bartender (Madelyn Cline) who crosses paths with a mysterious onboard guest (Depp). The two soon become entangled with a dangerous figure played by Penélope Cruz — and, apparently, 'connected in ways no one saw coming.' Shortly after the photo hit social media, fans wasted no time reacting. 'Johnny Silver Fox Depp 🥂✨✨✨,' one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 'WOW Looking great JD ❤️❤️🫶 Can't wait ❤️🔥❤️🔥,' another said. 'Johnny seems to be pulling off a new look!' added a third. 'He looks like he's playing the guy from the Dos Equis commercials… and I'm kinda here for it??' someone else joked. Not everyone was on board, though. 'Johnny Depp will flop so badly it's the end of his career,' one user commented. 'The role he was born to play. He doesn't even need to act!' another chimed in. 'Way to lean into the aging 🧓,' someone else wrote. Day Drinker marks Depp's first studio-backed role since Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018. The Hollywood icon was asked to step down from the franchise in 2020 after losing a libel case in the U.K. against a tabloid that referred to him as a 'wife beater.' Though Depp denied the allegations, a judge ruled that the outlet's claims were 'substantially true.' Fast forward to 2022, the Alice in Wonderland star sued Heard — whom he was married to from February 2015 to January 2017 — over an op-ed she wrote in 2018 about surviving domestic violence. Though Heard, now 38, didn't name Depp, a jury found she had defamed him with actual malice and awarded him more than $10 million in damages. Heard won one of her own claims and was awarded $2 million. Since the trial, Depp's appeared in the French film Jeanne du Barry, which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and directed Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness — his first time in the director's chair in over two decades. Meanwhile, Heard relocated to Spain with daughter Oonagh, whom she welcomed in April 2021 via surrogate. In a May 2023 TikTok clip, the Aquaman actress told local reporters she 'loves living' in the country and plans to stay long-term. More recently, the proud mom revealed she's expecting her second child. 'It is still quite early in the pregnancy,' a spokesperson told People in December. 'But Amber is delighted both for herself and Oonagh Paige.' Read More! Wicked: For Good and Jurassic World Rebirth Dominate Universal's CinemaCon

While Universal Pictures (along with Focus Features) showcased several of their upcoming films at CinemaCon on Wednesday, it was more noteworthy which titles on their slate they opted not to promote to theater executives and the press. In the past, Universal would unveil first look footage of movies in production or break news about their biggest franchises. This year, the studio merely name-checked some of their most eagerly anticipated 2026 titles: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, Shrek 5, Steven Spielberg's untitled sci-fi film, or Jordan Peele's next directorial effort. Notably, Fast and Furious 11 wasn't even mentioned. Instead, Universal's presentation mostly consisted of playing new trailers for their 2025 films, kicking things off with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and director Gareth Edwards debuting the next trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth. Johansson joked that she pitched herself to executive producer Steven Spielberg 'and said I'd play any role, even if I was eaten in the first five minutes.' While Johansson clearly doesn't die in the opening moments of Jurassic World Rebirth, one of the highlights of the new trailer was a high seas chase sequence where the heroes are in a boat pursuing a Mosasaurus and Johansson ends up hanging on for dear life. New trailers were also shown for The Bad Guys 2, Nobody 2, Him (produced by Jordan Peele), and Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie. Ditto Blumhouse titles M3GAN 2.0, SOULM8TE, Black Phone 2, and Five Nights at Freddy's 2. Focus Features showed trailers for three upcoming prestige films: The Phoenician Scheme, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, and Bugonia. Gerard Butler, Nico Parker and director Dean DeBlois made an appearance to promote the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, which screened in its entirety earlier in the day at the convention. The biggest news from this section was that there will be a live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 and that it will be released in theaters on June 11, 2027. Universal closed their CinemaCon 2025 presentation with Wicked: For Good, where stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt took the stage to reveal the new trailer for the sequel, which hits theaters on November 21st. The trailer leans into the tragic falling out between Elphaba and Glinda. 'You're the only friend I've ever had,' Elphaba tells Glinda. 'And I've had so many friends,' Glinda replies. 'But you're the only one that mattered.' The footage also revealed performances of the musical's songs 'For Good' and 'No Good Deed,' and provided more glimpses of the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) including his meeting with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. For more CinemaCon coverage, find out what we learned about Superman, Mortal Kombat II, Resident Evil, Spider-Man: Brave New Day, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, John Wick 5, Now You See Me: Now You Don't, and The Beatles.

There Are Over 40 "Shrek" Characters, But I Bet You Can't Name Just 17

With news of Shrek 5 coming in December 2026, there's no better time than now to revisit the original movies that started it all. Are you ready for the challenge Shrek fans? Here's how this quiz works: You will be prompted to name one character for every letter of the alphabet, minus I, J, N, O, U, V, X, Y, and Z. This quiz only includes characters from the Shrek franchise released in 2001–2010 (no Puss in Boots spinoffs). If a character has a title before their name, the first letter of the title is used (ex: Lord Farquaad would apply for L, but not for F). Spelling counts, so try your best to get as close as you can. Good luck!
