Indian defence cos set to gain 15-17% in revenue

Hans India5 hours ago

New Delhi: Entities operating in the Indian defence sector are expected to sustain robust growth momentum, with likely revenue expansion of 15-17 per cent in FY26, a report showed on Wednesday.
The healthy revenue growth is primarily driven by strong execution progress on the back of a robust order book position, with order book/operating income (OB/OI) ratio at 4.4 times as of FY25 end, according to an ICRA analysis.
Over the years, the government has implemented numerous policy initiatives, with 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' at its core, to enhance domestic defence production capabilities, encourage investments and expand exports. These include the liberalisation of FDI policies in the defence sector, continuation of the defence offset policy, establishment of two Defence Industrial Corridors and a sustained push towards indigenisation through the notification of five 'Positive Indigenisation Lists' and the online indigenisation portal 'SRIJAN'.
'These apart, the government has also increased the budgetary outlay for the sector with a thrust towards capital outlay, which has grown at a CAGR of 8.29 per cent over the previous five years to Rs 1.92 lakh crore in FY2026 budget estimates (BE),' the report mentioned.
Through these initiatives, the expenditure on defence procurement from domestic vendors has increased from 61 per cent in FY2017 to about 75 per cent in FY2025, while exports have grown by more than 15 times and at a healthy CAGR of 41 per cent to Rs 23,622 crore during FY2017-FY2025 period.
'Entities across the entire spectrum of defence production – land, naval, aeronautical, armaments and ammunition and ICT2 – will benefit from the sustained expansion in budgetary outlay since 2015, which is expected to translate into healthy order inflows as the government continues to increase domestic procurement,' said Suprio Banerjee, Vice President and Co-Group Head, Corporate Ratings, ICRA.

Rupee hits 3-month low on worries over US role in Middle East conflict

The Indian rupee fell to its weakest level since mid-March on Thursday as risk aversion gripped financial markets, with investors focused on the possibility of U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict. The rupee touched a low of 86.8925 on the day before slightly paring losses to close at 86.7225 against the U.S. dollar, down 0.3% on the day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Brent crude oil prices rose to near $77 per barrel after Israel struck a key Iranian nuclear site on Thursday and Iranian missiles hit an Israeli hospital. Risk assets remained under pressure, reflecting investor worries about a broader conflict in the Middle East after U.S. President Donald Trump kept the world guessing about whether the country would join Israel's bombardment of Iranian nuclear sites. ANZ believes the most likely scenario is an extended conflict between Iran and Israel, which would see oil supplies come under direct threat, the firm said in a Thursday note. Live Events "The price outcome for this scenario would be the USD75-85/bbl range," while an escalation of the conflict, pegged at 20% probability, could push prices to $90-95 per barrel. Oil is a major component of India's import bill. A $10 barrel increase in crude can widen the current account deficit by up to 0.4% of GDP, economists estimate. Indian government bond yields rose on Thursday as traders squared off positions, fearing further escalation of geopolitical tensions . The country's benchmark equity index, Nifty 50 , dipped 0.1%. Meanwhile, mild dollar sales from state-run banks helped the rupee limit its losses, three traders said. The currency has declined little under 1% this week so far. The rupee could find some support near the psychologically important 87 level and is likely to trade with a weakening bias in the near term, a trader at a foreign bank said.

BWSSB Sets Guinness World Record for Water Awareness Campaign in Bengaluru

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has forayed into the Guinness Book of World Records for running a large water conservation campaign. This happened between March 21 and 28, 2025. During this time, 5,33,642 people took a water-saving pledge. This was the highest number ever, making it a world record. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar received the Guinness certificate for BWSSB. The Guinness World Records official, Swapnil Dangarikar, gave the award. The event was held at a hotel in Bengaluru. Shivakumar thanked BWSSB for spreading awareness. He said water saving is very important in cities. He shared that Bengaluru uses treated water for everything, even for washing cars, adding that in Delhi there is a separate pipelines for drinking and non-drinking water. He also said that 35% of people do not pay water bills. Still, BWSSB works hard to supply water. The government is planning to improve the water system. The goal is to supply water to 2 crore people in the city. Shivakumar said they will revise water prices to reduce losses. BWSSB now loses around Rs 400–500 crore every year. The price changes will be like those used in the transport system.
