Hajj preparation in final stages: minister
Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf has announced that about 90,000 pilgrims will perform Hajj this year under the government Hajj schemewith Hajj flights starting from 29th of this month.
As part of the 2025 Hajj policy, a total of 179,210 Pakistanis are set to perform Hajj this year.
The Hajj quota is divided equally, with 89,605 seats allocated to both the government and private Hajj schemes.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on Sunday about Hajj 2025 preparations, the minister said arrangements for Hajj are in their final stages.
The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)the national flag carrieris going to start its pre-Hajj flight operation from April 29. During this massive exercise, more than 56, 000 pilgrims will be flown to Saudi Arabia through 280 flights.
These pilgrims will include 20,000 people utilizing the government Hajj scheme and 36,000 people performing pilgrimage through private Hajj operators. The PIA will use Boeing 777 and Airbus A320 planes for transportation of pilgrims.
After the Hajj, the PIA on June 12 will start its post-Hajj flight operation to bring back the pilgrims to Pakistan. This operation will continue till July 10.
The minister said that officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs will be present at airports across the country to assist pilgrims during their departure.
He emphasized that special focus is being given to the training of pilgrims, to enable them to avoid difficulties in Saudi Arabia. "The Saudi minister of Hajj assured me that excellent arrangements have been made for this year's Hajj," he said.
Yousuf said the first phase of training has been completed, and the second phase of the training camp will start from April 8. Pilgrims should go prepared, and special focus is being given to training.
He said Hajj and Umrah are matters of faith, and any work done in this regard is considered an act of faith.
The minister said he had a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and that he was following his instructions.

Overall, eight flights were cancelled and 20 others delayed amid continuous downpour in Karachi. Flights arriving from Skardu and Dubai could not land, with PK-456 diverted to Sukkur Airport and Dubai's FZ-335 flight rerouted to Multan. Multiple Karachi-Islamabad flights experienced delays, while flights from Jeddah, Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Colombo also faced schedule disruptions. Two domestic PIA flights between Karachi and Quetta, Karachi and Islamabad, and two Sukkur flights were cancelled. Private carriers also suspended two Karachi-Dubai flights. Private airline operations were disrupted as well. A Serene Airline flight also attempted two landings in Karachi amid severe weather but was forced to abort and return to Islamabad. Passengers have been advised to monitor flight updates closely as the city battles severe weather affecting air travel.

PIA flights disrupted amid torrential rains in Karachi
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operations at Karachi airport faced major disruptions on Tuesday due to heavy rains and stormy weather in the city. Karachi has been receiving intermittent heavy showers since early morning, leading to waterlogging on major roads and traffic gridlocks. The downpour also affected access to Jinnah International Airport as several routes were partially submerged, making it difficult for passengers and staff to reach the terminal on time. According to PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan, multiple flights were either cancelled or delayed as downpours hampered operations and prevented passengers from reaching the airport. The national flag carrier cancelled its Karachi-Quetta-Karachi flights PK-310/311 and Karachi-Islamabad-Karachi flights PK-308/309, while Lahore-Karachi flight PK-305 was delayed at Lahore Airport and will depart once weather conditions improve. PIA's Karachi-Najaf-Karachi service (PK-109/110) was also delayed as passengers were unable to arrive on time, with its departure now expected at 10:30pm. Similarly, Karachi-Islamabad flight PK-370 has been rescheduled for 9:30pm. Moreover, tomorrow's Karachi-Islamabad-Karachi flights PK-300/301 have been cancelled. The airline has advised passengers to remain in contact with its call centre at 111-786-786 for updated flight information and to confirm flight timings and road conditions before heading to the airport. 'PIA apologises for the inconvenience caused by weather-related disruptions and is making every effort to normalise operations at the earliest,' the spokesperson added.

On the occasion of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, the world's tallest building in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) lit up in the vibrant colors of the green crescent flag on Thursday. Pakistan's Independence Day celebrations transcended borders and reached new heights when the iconic Burj Khalifa shone brilliantly in green and white.
