Boston Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to training camp deal
Ron Harper Jr. is the Boston Celtics' first Exhibit 10 addition this summer. Harper Jr. will be entering his fourth NBA season, having originally signed with the Toronto Raptors as a rookie. He also spent some time with the Maine Celtics this past season, and will now get an opportunity to make an impression on Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff throughout the summer.
In total, Harper Jr. made 27 G League appearances this past season, split between the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, where he averaged 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists, shooting 39% from deep on 8.9 attempts per outing.
As the Celtics already have their two-way spots filled courtesy of Amari Williams, Max Shulga and RJ Luis, Harper Jr. will either make the main roster as the 15th and final member of the roster, or join the Maine Celtics in the hope of triggering a bonus should he stay with the team for 60 days. Of course, right now, his only focus will be on making a strong impression and working to improve his game.

Today in Boston Celtics history: Larry Bird retires
Today in Boston Celtics history, Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird retired from the game as a player in 1992. Sidelined by persistent back problems, the 'Hick from French Lick' (as he was called for a nickname by his fans) quit playing the sport he loved at age 35 after three titles, three Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, two NBA Finals MVPs, a dozen NBA All-Star nods, and 10 All-NBA team elections among many other honors. Bird played his NCAA basketball at Indiana State after a short time playing for Indiana University, winning National College Player of the Year at the former in 1979. He was drafted out of Indiana State with the sixth overall pick of the 1978 NBA draft by the Celtics, the only NBA team he would play for. 'The last couple of years have been very tough on me, on my back and on my body,' Bird related at a press conference to announce his retirement (via the New York Times' Clifton Brown). 'It was very hard to deal with, day in and day out. Unfortunately, it all came down to this. I would have liked to have played a little bit longer, maybe a year or two more, but there was just no way possible I was going to be able to do that. So, today, I'm retiring.' In many ways, the excitement around the career of Bird and his rivalry with Los Angeles Laker Magic Johnson helped save the NBA from semi-obscurity, setting the stage for the super-stardom of Michael Jordan in the 1990s. 'There is no way to quantify the impact that Larry Bird has had on the game of basketball,' said then-NBA commissioner David Stern. 'With his intensity, dedication, competitiveness and will to win, he has been the ultimate team player in the quintessential team sport. Quite simply, Larry Bird has helped to define the way a generation of basketball fans has come to view and appreciate the NBA.' 'In the future, great players will be judged against the standards he has set, but there will never be another Larry Bird,' added Stern. Rest in Peace It is also the day of the death of former Celtics forward Don Eliason, who passed away on this date in 2003. An alum of Hamline University, Eliason joined the NFL after college as one of a small group of people who have played in that league and the NBA (or as it was known in that era, the Basketball Association of America/BAA) before serving in the US Army in World War II. Eliason returned to sports in 1946, joining Boston in its inaugural BAA season, the same year he rejoined the NFL. His stint with the Celtics was as brief as they come, playing just one game with the team and recording a single foul in that contest. Finally, it is also the date that Boston small forward Bob Bigelow passed away in 2020. Bigelow — a native of Boston — played at the NCAA level with the University of Pennsylvania before being drafted by the (then) Kansas City Kings (now, Sacramento).

NBA Fans Marvel As China Welcomes Stephen Curry With Massive Drone Show
NBA Fans Marvel As China Welcomes Stephen Curry With Massive Drone Show originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Stephen Curry has landed in China for his Curry Training Camp 'World Tour', wherein he will be conducting his famous training camp for the next three or four days. Curry was greeted by thousands of fans who mobbed the streets for the Warriors superstar's arrival. Upon his arrival, Curry was also greeted with a stunning drone and light show that used thousands of drones to display a basketball swish up in the air alongside multiple-story buildings glowing with bright colors. NBA fans saw this video online and were left stumped at how warmly China is welcoming Curry. "A foreign country is doing more for him than the Warriors front office." "I was finna say bruh no way they make the net swish." "They ain't doing this for LeBron. They ain't doing this for Jordan. Face of the league." "China is doing more for Curry than his FO. I hate it here." "Very Impressive." "Better than fireworks." "This is so much cooler than fireworks. Can the United States get into this sh**?" The noteworthy aspect of this show is not just the massive display of a basketball shot, but also the Curry signature on the ball. The attention to detail here, especially, left the fans in awe of what a foreign country is doing for the Global superstar Curry. Curry hit the ground running soon after landing in China. From going on live stream to starting his training camp's first day within hours of landing, Curry seems to have a lot on his plate for this trip to China. Curry now joins a long list of NBA players who have visited China this offseason. Players like James Harden and Jalen Williams came earlier this month, and even Kawhi Leonard is expected to show up soon. China has a massive fan base of the NBA. It will not be a surprise if China is also involved in the global expansion league that NBA commissioner Adam Silver is planning. While Adam Silver is focused on Europe at the moment, China could be his next target audience. Global ambassadors like Curry could promote this league and bring it to a level where the champions could deservedly call themselves World champions by beating the best from around the world. Spurs' star De'Aaron Fox was also expected to join Curry on this global trip, but unfortunately, he had to cancel the trip a few weeks ago. While we do not know why Fox did that, having him on this trip would certainly increase the prestige of the camp. Azzi Fudd, the NCAA star from the UConn Huskies, who is also a Curry brand athlete, has also joined him on this story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 18, 2025, where it first appeared.

NBA champion leaves OKC Thunder for Spurs
Such is the nature of the league, the Oklahoma City Thunder saw some roster changes this offseason. After a historic season, the NBA champions will enter the 2025-26 campaign as a popular pick to repeat because of the roster continuity they'll sport. There are a handful of changes, though, particularly at the bottom of the depth chart. After two seasons with the Thunder, Adam Flagler wasn't brought back. He was a two-way player who sporadically played at the NBA level. Flagler signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the San Antonio Spurs. He'll be at training camp with the hopes of getting another two-way deal. If not, he'll likely be signed to their G League squad. The writing was on the wall with Flagler's departure from the Thunder. He signed with the Atlanta Hawks for the 2025 Summer League, which meant he needed to find a new NBA home after the two-week event. He landed in a good spot that's still in a rebuild. Flagler averaged 1.7 points on 25.2% shooting in his two seasons on the Thunder. While he struggled to find his shot at the NBA level, he was a top-notch scorer at the G League. His outside shot helped the OKC Blue bring home the 2024 G League championship. Flagler hopes to extend his NBA career. The 25-year-old went undrafted out of Baylor in 2023. If he's near the end of the road of his time in the league, he has two seasons and a championship ring in his pocket. That's more than what other players with similar starting positions can say.
