How do Mamelodi Sundowns' social media followers stack up to Orlando Pirates'?

Mamelodi Sundowns have hogged the headlines in recent weeks – and years – following their eighth-consecutive PSL title in the 2024/25 season.
More recently, plenty of airtime has been given to the Tshwane giants, particularly related to their participation in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup – and the amount of money Masandawana have banked.
Both their PSL and Club World Cup success must surely be making Orlando Pirates and their supporters green with envy.
While Mamelodi Sundowns are most definitely 'winning' on the field and in terms of their bank balance, how do their number of social media followers stack up against the Buccaneers?
Here's a look at which club has more followers on Facebook, X and Instagram: Social media Mamelodi Sundowns Orlando Pirates Facebook 2.7 million 4.4 million X 1 223 979 2 134 390 Instagram 1 049 322 908 877 TOTAL 4 973 301 7 443 267
As can clearly be seen, Orlando Pirates remain tops when it comes to online supporters – although they may want to work on their number of Instagram fans.
One is pretty sure that Orlando Pirates' management would happily swap their social media advantage for another PSL title – or participation in the next edition of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2029.

Real Madrid star Mbappe released from hospital

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has been released from hospital in the United States after suffering a stomach bug, the Spanish giants said on Thursday. Mbappe, who is in the USA at the Club World Cup, had what the club called "an acute case of gastroenteritis" and was taken in for tests and treatment. "Our player Kylian Mbappe was discharged from hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training camp," Los Blancos said in a statement. "Mbappe will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to the team's activities," they added. French striker Mbappe missed his team's Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal on Wednesday, a 1-1 draw in Xabi Alonso's first game at the helm. Alonso said on Tuesday the 26-year-old forward had been "feeling a little better" after illness in the run up to the match in Miami. Madrid B-team player Gonzalo Garcia, 21, started in Mbappe's stead and opened the scoring for Real Madrid against their Saudi Arabian opponents. Madrid's second match in Group H is on Sunday June 22 against Mexican side Pachuca in Charlotte. Mbappe finished as the European Golden Shoe winner in his first season at Real Madrid with 31 goals in La Liga, but Los Blancos finished the season without a major trophy.

Brother announces Bafana Bafana star's move to Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs could be on the brink of signing and announcing a Bafana Bafana star should rumours be true. Chiefs will be looking to improve their frontline in the 2025/26 season with numerous names linked. Subsequently there have been quite a few attackers linked with Chiefs going into the next season. This as a sign of what they're trying to fix in the final third. Amakhosi, however, have seen the likes of Fiston Mayele, Etiosa Ighodaro, Robert Polievka mentioned as strikers. In the wingers department Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Mihlali Mayambela and Keletso Makgalwa have been touted. Now the brother of one of those players in Mark Mayambela seems to have made a big hint. Following a report that came out, linking his brother with a return to South Africa and Chiefs, he has responded. The former Orlando Pirates star has quoted the initial tweet of the article with a picture of his brother. This was not just any picture, however, as it was one of Mihlali wearing an Amakhosi development tracksuit top. Mayambela was part of the Chiefs junior structures back in his development days, before moving abroad. According to the quote from his older brother, he may be on his way back to Naturena as a senior. He didn't post any words, just an emoji that raised the speculation. Should Mihlali join then he would undoubtedly be raising the standards of their attack. Currently, Chiefs have the likes of Pule Mmodi, Gaston Sirino, Glody Lilepo, Ashley du Preez and Mfundo Vilakazi out wide. Mayambela would also bring international experience to the club. This as he was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won bronze at previous AFCON. Chiefs fans, would signing Mayambela be a statement of intent from your club?
