Bristol sign Wales wing Rees-Zammit after NFL dream ends
English Premiership side Bristol said Thursday that Rees-Zammit was joining with "immediate effect" ahead of the new league season.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 tries in 32 Tests for Wales and was selected for the 2021 British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa.
Rees-Zammit, formerly with rivals Gloucester, said in a Bristol statement: "Bristol Bears was the obvious choice for me.
"The style of rugby the team play -- all about entertaining the fans and growing the game -- perfectly aligns to how I want to play and how I express myself on and off the field."

Liverpool have signed the NEXT Fernando Torres
Liverpool have their next Fernando Torres and he's special. We all remember that moment, well those of us who are old enough, because it was that long ago. Fernando Torres. A special performance. Capped off with a goal. And that knee slide in front of the crowd. That was the beginning of the Torres years at Liverpool. And oh my how beautiful those years were. How adored Torres was. El Nino was the talk of the city back then. No matter how it ended, Torres was iconic during his time at the club. He was Liverpool's best player at times and definitely a crowd favourite. 🔴 Shop the LFC 2025/26 adidas away range Liverpool have had great attacking players since. But they haven't really had a beloved no.9. That's about to change. Because 18 years later, Liverpool have another Torres. It's happening all over again. Once again a new era is starting. And it started at Anfield. Under the lights. Adidas long sleeve tops. Except it wasn't Chelsea who were the opponents but Bournemouth. But the end result was the same. Hugo Ekitike scoring, just like Torres did on his debut. And just like the Spaniard, he capped it off with a knee slide in front of the crowd. Ekitike's debut was as good as they come. He got himself an assist later on in the match providing Cody Gakpo with an opportunity he had to take, and he took it very calmly.

Ruben Amorim more confident in Man Utd ahead of new season
Ruben Amorim says he feels 'more confident' about Manchester United's qualities heading into Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal. A sense of optimism has returned to Old Trafford, just three months on from their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years being compounded by a damaging defeat in the Europa League final. Amorim has refreshed the squad, both in terms of personnel and mindset, since the end of a campaign in which the United head coach admitted he went into games knowing that they would struggle. But being backed in the transfer window over incomings and outgoings has helped changed that heading into Sunday's hotly-anticipated Old Trafford opener against Arsenal. 'It is hard to know (what we will deliver) because we cannot change everything in four weeks, but we are better,' Amorim said. 'I know that we are training harder, we are training better, so I know that we are more prepared to cope with the demands of the game. 'We have new players that we need to understand in the real game what they are capable to do in the moment. 'But I am really more confident. That is clear. I am more confident in this moment. 'But, again, we cannot change everything in four weeks but step by step we are going to be a better team, but of course I am more confident.' Benjamin Sesko is pushing to make his debut just a week on from joining the club from RB Leipzig, as are fellow summer acquisitions Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon. But there remains work to be done, with a number of players to shift out and a decision to be made on midfield after Brighton made clear they do not want to sell Carlos Baleba this summer. United are a work in progress but Amorim believes they are far better heading into the new campaign than the side that stumbled home 15th last term. 'We want to return to Europe, but it is hard as a Manchester United coach to say one thing like that,' he said. 'But we need to be realistic with our fans. We are going to have to fight a lot because there's a lot of good teams with more time than us together, but we are going to fight for it. 'We are going to improve. We want to focus game by game. If we are thinking now about how we are going to finish the season it is a problem. 'Let's focus on game by game. We want to win against Arsenal, that is the main focus.' The match against Mikel Arteta's Gunners pits Amorim against a striker he helped take to new heights. Viktor Gyokeres joined Sporting Lisbon from Coventry in 2023 and became one of Europe's most talked about frontmen in Europe under the Portuguese. There had been talk of a reunion with Amorim at Old Trafford but the Sweden international instead joined Arsenal and could make his debut against his former boss on Sunday. 'It's a different league,' Amorim said of Gyokeres. 'The physicality is different. 'In Sporting they have a very good group of scouting because they live from that, from the players they can buy and then sell to survive. 'I think he is a very good player. He is going to give different characteristics. 'It is going be different if we face in the beginning of the game Viktor or (Kai) Havertz, for example, so we need to be prepared for that but it's not a surprise to watch Viktor in a big club in England.'

Report: Terry McLaurin remains 'dug in, frustrated' with the Commanders
Will the saga between Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders ever end? While no one knows when the contract dispute between the two sides will end, we should be approaching an unofficial deadline: Week 1 of the 2025 season. The Commanders need McLaurin. Reports out of training camp haven't been favorable for their wide receivers outside of Deebo Samuel. And McLaurin doesn't want to miss games. That would be a lot of money. Remember, after four days of training camp, he reported to the team after drawing fines of $50,000 per day for each day that he missed. So, while we should expect McLaurin to play in Week 1 — he's currently on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury — will he be playing under his current contract? Or, will the Commanders strike a deal with their top receiver before the first game against the New York Giants? There is seemingly a report every day about McLaurin and the Commanders, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler offered the latest on Friday. "From what I'm hearing, there's still a pretty sizable gap in how they see the wide receiver market," Fowler said. "Washington's down here, Terry McLaurin's pretty high up here. I'm told the player is dug in, remains frustrated, not a lot of traction on a trade right now, even though I do know there are some teams that are interested, or have at least called. But right now, I'm told Washington does remain optimistic in this despite some of the smoke around all of the issues, and him still out of practice. They feel like, when push comes to shove, closer to Week 1, they can reach some sort of compromise. It's probably not going to be a situation where he plays out the year on his contract and plays on the franchise tag next year. Like, he needs some sort of contract. They are hoping they can find a sweet spot here, but they're sort of waiting each other out, and meanwhile, this could get ugly." Wait, it's not already ugly? Sure, this situation is tame compared to other contract standoffs we've seen in recent years. But with no movement between the two parties, it's fair to wonder if they can find that middle ground. The problem is, no one, outside of the Commanders and McLaurin's camp, really knows what that middle ground is. Is McLaurin not willing to take anything less than a contract with an average annual value of $30 million? We are now three weeks away from Week 1. Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury expressed frustration with McLaurin's absence on Friday. We are reaching a point where you wonder how much McLaurin's absence will impact the Commanders, even when he returns. Long holdouts often lead to slow starts. We shall see.
