674 publishers from 35 countries to participate in Muscat book fair

Muscat – The 2025 edition of the Muscat International Book Fair will open on April 23 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of H H Sayyid Dr Fahad al Julanda al Said, Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University.
The Ministry of Information revealed details of the fair at a press conference on Wednesday, highlighting an expanded cultural programme and broad international participation, reinforcing its position as one of Oman's leading literary and cultural events.
H E Mohammed bin Said bin Mohammed al Balushi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Information, said that North Sharqiyah governorate will be the Guest of Honour for this year's edition. The region's cultural and historical identity will be featured through dedicated exhibitions and activities showcasing its scientific contributions, heritage landmarks and development projects across its wilayats.
More than 74 media professionals from 50 international organisations have been invited to cover the fair, in addition to local and regional outlets and social media content creators focused on books and culture.
Several cultural activities will be broadcast live during the fair.
Ahmed bin Saud al Rawahi, Director of the Muscat International Book Fair, announced participation of 674 publishing houses from 35 countries, including 640 direct participants and 34 through local representatives.
'Attendees can expect a diverse range of publications, panel discussions and cultural showcases designed to engage a broad audience of book lovers, academics, authors and publishers,' he said.
The 2025 edition will also include 'Saudi Cultural Days', featuring a special pavilion highlighting the kingdom's literary and artistic contributions. The initiative aims to deepen cultural ties between Oman and Saudi Arabia.
According to Rawahi, more than 681,000 book titles are listed on the fair's website, reflecting the growing scale of the event and its role in promoting reading.
Alongside literary offerings, the fair will host youth workshops, interactive sessions and thematic exhibitions aimed at fostering a culture of reading and learning across generations.

Ayn platform is introducing visitors to media services that shed light on Dhofar Governorate's tourism landmarks and cultural and humanitarian assets. Through its digital presence, Ayn platform is enhancing the community's interaction in different ways, including a 'Child Interface', an Interactive Digital Competition and on-the-spot radio and TV transmission. The Child Interface presents a visual programme featuring environmental adventures and field explorations in Dhofar Governorate. It develops learning skills, fosters cultural belonging and highlights entertainment content that responds to families' educational and innovative aspirations. The Child Interface also showcases electronic services that target children, including audiobooks and animated cartoons. It programmes, which run until 3 August, focus on entertainment and educational content that expands young people's awareness and intellectual potential. Ayn Platform's Interactive Digital Competition includes a set of cultural and tourism questions aimed at consolidating the Omani identity. It engages participants to local heritage in a simplified and attractive manner. The platform also offers online broadcasts of all radio and television programmes related to the Khareef season, with a dedicated category titled "Khareef Dhofar". This reflects the platform's vital role in highlighting the Sultanate of Oman's presence on the regional and global arenas. To support the season's digital coverage, short video segments were produced. They highlight the beauty of nature through aerial photography techniques (using drones). In this context, interviews are made with visitors from people from different nationalities, in different languages, thus ensuring access for local and international audiences. Ayn platform serves as one of the Ministry of Information's initiatives that embody Oman Vision 2040. It keeps pace with the Sultanate of Oman's digital transition. It dedicates digital space to Khareef Dhofar festival in eight languages, along with translated captions of images and articles highlighting the governorate's events and tourist attractions.

The integrated plan, running until August 31, includes producing and broadcasting visual, audio and digital programmes with interactive content and live field coverage to ensure wide outreach locally and internationally. Oman TV will begin its coverage with the programme 'People and Khareef', returning this year with a refreshed, more in-depth format. The daily show (2:30 pm – 4 pm) will feature diverse locations showcasing Dhofar's landscapes and tourism activities, with participation from Omani and GCC media professionals as well as Arab journalists. The evening programme 'Khareef Nights' will broadcast live from the 'Return of the Past' event site in Al Saada, Salalah (9 pm – 10 pm) on Oman General and Oman Cultural channels, covering heritage, cultural and artistic activities. Oman Radio will air Khareef's Radio Programme codenamed 'Atheer' daily (5 pm – 7 pm) from the 'Return of the Past' location, featuring studio interviews, AI-powered segments on Dhofar, and live video content shared via the ministry's and radio's platforms. Youth Radio will broadcast 'Khareef and Youth' from Jabal Ateen studio (2 pm – 4 pm daily), focusing on artistic, cultural and social themes for young audiences. Oman News Agency (ONA) has commenced its coverage with news reports, features, photos and videos across digital platforms, social media and smart apps, as well as radio/TV bulletins, highlighting tourism assets and socio-cultural interactions. Oman newspaper continues its coverage (since June 21) through print/digital reports and social media, offering rich content on the festivities. Moreover, the Ministry of Information's General Directorate of Digital Media enhances engagement via interactive competitions, drone-captured scenic vignettes and multilingual visitor interviews. The 'Ayn' platform provides live coverage from Oman Radio and TV for all programmes and activities related to the Khareef Dhofar Season.
