Aanathazhchira near Technocity to be developed into tourism hub
Spread across 16.7 acres owned by revenue department and Andoorkonam grama panchayat, the project aims to tap into the region's natural beauty and strategic location near the fast-developing IT corridor.
As part of the formal procedures, revenue minister K Rajan handed over the title deed of the land to tourism minister P A Mohamed Riyas at a function held at Aanathazhchira Ground on Wednesday. Minister for food and civil supplies G R Anil, who represents the area, presided over the event.
Riyas said the project would be beneficial for the local community, besides giving a facelift to the landscape of the village. The revenue minister said the project would leverage the immense tourism potential of Aanathazhchira.
Anil lauded the tourism minister for taking up the project proposed by him considering the immense potential of the place.
It was Anil who initially proposed the Aanathazhchira tourism project, recognising the location's untapped tourism potential and connectivity advantages.

Following the land transfer, minister Riyas suggested including the development plan under the proposals discussed at the tourism investors meet (TIM) held earlier this year.
The tourism department has entrusted the project management unit, formed as part of the TIM follow-up, to draw up a detailed project framework. This will explore ways to fully utilise the site's tourism potential and integrate it into broader state tourism strategies.
The project is slated to be developed through a public-private partnership model. An expression of interest (EoI) inviting construction partners for the project, envisioned as a 'nightlife tourism destination', is expected to be floated in Sept.
The project will prioritise eco-friendly infrastructure, with plans for water adventure sports, a children's eco-park and a dedicated cycling track. The focus on sustainability and innovation is expected to make Aanathazhchira a unique model for integrated urban tourism and recreational development, authorities said.

Discounts dip but Russian crude keeps flowing
Representative AI image Representative AI image Representative AI image 1 2 NEW DELHI: The flow of Russian crude to India remains unabated in spite of discounts shrinking to $1.5-2 per barrel as market factors and input requirement continue to drive refiners' choice in the absence of any govt directive for or against those imports amid US and European Union (EU) pressure. 'We are buying crude as per the economics. We are not making any extra effort for either increasing or decreasing Russian crude (purchase)," IndianOil chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney said on Thursday. Coming from the head of India's largest state-run refiner and a major buyer of Russian crude, the statement can be construed as an indication the govt remains undaunted by western pressure against purchase of those barrels. Govt sources said a team of officials from the external and commerce ministries is set to visit Russia for further discussion on a Rupee-Rouble trade, something both countries have been pursuing for years. Several cargoes of Russian crude was delivered to western ports last week, contrary to foreign media reports of India pausing purchase of Russian oil. Describing those reports as 'wrong', Sahney pointed out that Russian oil was not sanctioned like Iranian or Venezuelan crude but is only subject to a price cap. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This year's most comfortable shoes are a hit with the over-40 crowd Ultra-Comfortable Shoes Undo He said the US had set the price cap at $60/barrel, among other curbs, after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The EU's latest curbs has lowered the cap to $47 (at current oil prices). There is no curb on buying Russian oil within these conditions. Sahney said buying (clean) Russian oil even at small discounts could make sense for refiners if the yield patten of that particular grade suits the production plan at a given point. 'If the pricing and characteristics of the crude suits our scheme of processing, we buy,' he said explaining the monthly variations in the quantity of imports from Russia or the US. Separately, executives of other refining companies said the wind-down provisions in the US penalty on New Delhi allow import of Russian crude loaded upto seven days from the order, after which the 25% additional tariff will be imposed on Indian goods exports. 'We will continue to import Russian oil but will not violate the sanctions,' an executive of major refining company said requesting that neither he nor his company be identified.

Chitrakoot link e-way gets govt nod for land acquisition
Lucknow: Clearing another hurdle to expedite development work in Bundelkhand region, state govt gave its go-ahead to UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to spend Rs 188.6 crore on acquiring land required for construction of Chitrakoot Link Expressway. A total of 9.52 hectares private land needs to be aggregated in the Karvi sub-division. On Jul 22, Yogi Adityanath govt cleared a budget of Rs 940 crore for the 15-km long expressway, out of which Rs 188.6 crore will be utilised to acquire last few land parcels before starting civil work. Though the 296-km long Bundelkhand Expressway already connects Etawah to Chitrakoot via Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun and Auraiya, another spur route is being provided in the district to attract investors interested in setting up a unit under the defence corridor or under the integrated manufacturing and logistics cluster, the two flagship schemes floated by UPEIDA for industrial development. Moreover, the link route would also bring down commute time to Karwi, the district headquarters. The authority has surveyed Ranipur Bhatt, Gonda and Ahmadganj villages to scout for the remaining land and put up a proposal before the state to take over the required land parcels. Officials said the spur route would result in increasing vehicular movement on Bundelkhand Expressway as an increased number of motorists from Madhya Pradesh would ply via the 296-km long high-speed corridor to travel within UP and to Delhi and the National Capital Region. Villagers petition collector against Sipcot park
Madurai: Villagers from 18 villages submitted a petition to Madurai district collector K J Praveen Kumar on Thursday protesting against the establishment of the Sipcot industrial park in Melur. They demandd that ongoing work be immediately halted and Kallangadu be declared a biodiversity heritage site. A group of women villagers also performed 'Kummi' folk dance in protest in front of the collectorate. In their petition, the villagers, under the banner of 'Kallangadu Suttruvattara Paathukaapirkana 18 Grama Makkal Kootamaippu', stated that the industrial park, spread across 278 acre in Vanjinagaram, would have an adverse impact on villages in the surrounding areas. "The Sipcot industrial park will destroy agricultural land and affect local availability of water resources for irrigation. Plant and animal life will be impacted, and grazing lands will also be destroyed," added the villagers. The protesters further said the industrial park will lead to the ruin of temples and heritage sites in Kallangadu. They include a Shiva temple and Azhagunachiyamman temple, where villagers come together to worship and hold festivals. "There are 25 more temples nearby as well, and various symbols, artefacts, and stone carvings from the Pandiya era can be unearthed by an archaeological expedition," they added.
