Spartan Race announces new Trifecta Weekend at Al Ain Zoo
To be held from October 11-12, 2025, the event will feature all three signature race formats across the weekend, allowing competitors to earn the Trifecta medal at one venue.
Both open and competitive heats will run for the Sprint, Beast, and Kids races.
Spartan Middle East brings obstacle course racing to Al Ain Zoo
The race schedule includes the Sprint 5K, featuring a 5km course with 20 obstacles. The Super 10K presents a 10km course with 25 obstacles, whilst the Beast 21K covers 21km with 30 obstacles.
Kids races will offer courses of 1km for ages 4-6, 1.5km for ages 7-9, and 3km for ages 9-14.
Participants can earn a Spartan Trifecta by completing the Sprint, Super, and Beast within a calendar year.
The weekend format allows racers to complete all three races over two days, earning a commemorative Trifecta medal alongside individual race wedges.
The course will run through Al Ain Zoo's grounds, positioning obstacles amongst elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife.
This marks the first time a Spartan race has taken place within a zoo environment.
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council supports the event, continuing a partnership that has promoted obstacle course racing across the emirate.
Abu Dhabi hosts the annual Spartan World Championship, which attracts over 6,000 participants and has contributed to the sport's growth in the region.
Isla Watt, Director of Spartan Middle East, said in a statement: 'We are incredibly excited to bring a full Trifecta Weekend to a venue as spectacular as Al Ain Zoo. The combination of our challenging races and this stunning natural environment creates a truly memorable event. UAE: Abu Dhabi to host Open Masters Games in February; residents' fees at Dh275
UAE residents aged 30 and above can now sign up for the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026, the first event of its kind in the Middle East, taking place from February 6 to February 16. The event features 33 various sports and is expected to gather more than 25,000 participants from over 100 nationalities. Years later, I finally get to experience it as an athlete,' said Fordham. 'As for preparations, I've been balancing my training around work, focusing on both endurance riding and building up stamina for race day.' For those willing to contribute to organising the games, volunteer applications are open via the Emirates Foundation, with opportunities in logistics, athlete support, and hospitality. Roles are available for students, professionals, and community volunteers. Dubai Mallathon kicks off to turn malls into fitness hubs

UAE to play Afghanistan and Pakistan in T20 tri-series in Sharjah
Cricket fans in UAE are set for a T20 summer bonanza after it was announced that the national team will host a high-profile tri-series against Pakistan and Afghanistan. The seven-match series will take place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium from August 29 and run until September 7. The three teams will play each other twice in the six-match group stage. The top two teams will then compete in the final. The tournament is not only an opportunity for an in-form UAE team to test their mettle in the T20 format, but also a chance to prepare for the main event next month – the T20 Asia Cup. The UAE will host the Asia Cup tournament from September 9 where they will compete against the top teams in the format, which in turn serves as a build-up to the T20 World Cup early next year. In the Asia Cup, India and Pakistan are in Group A with Oman and hosts UAE. Group B comprises of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Hong Kong. The top two from each group there will qualify for the Super 4 stage where all four teams will play against each other. The top two teams will then go through to the final which will be held on September 28. Before that, the UAE team will lock horns with two powerhouses of T20 cricket, who have also played a large number of their matches in the UAE over the years. In the tri-series, Afghanistan take on Pakistan in the tournament opener. Match tickets and broadcast details for the tri-series will be announced over the next few days. The UAE are in fine form heading into the T20 tournaments. Under the captaincy of Muhammad Waseem, the national team famously defeated Bangladesh in a T20 series in Sharjah in May.
