Ilia Topuria fires at Khabib Nurmagomedov, says he'll take Islam Makhachev's title
Topuria, the undefeated Georgian-Spanish fighter, made his stance clear after Nurmagomedov suggested Tsarukyan deserved the next title shot. The comments were made in the wake of Topuria voluntarily vacating his featherweight belt to move up to 155 pounds.
'Khabib knows I'm the one to take the belt from Islam,' Topuria posted on social media. 'Only reason he doesn't want Islam to fight me.'

Topuria's recent résumé supports his claim. After starting his UFC career with six straight wins, including a lightweight victory over Jai Herbert, Topuria scored back-to-back knockouts of Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 and Max Holloway at UFC 308.
He became the first man to finish Holloway via strikes and the first to defeat Volkanovski in a featherweight contest.
With Arman Tsarukyan missing his opportunity due to a back injury before UFC 311, Topuria's path to a title shot appears clearer.
Tsarukyan, who previously lost to Makhachev in his UFC debut in 2019, had built a strong case with a 9-1 record since but must now wait after being forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight.
UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that Tsarukyan 'will have to fight his way back' into contention, possibly opening the door for Topuria's shot at gold.
Topuria also appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast recently, where he stated he had no issues 'sitting out' and waiting for a title shot agains Makhachev.
As for Makhachev, his next move could depend on the UFC 315 main event between welterweight champion Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena.
Makhachev has previously expressed interest in moving up to welterweight to become a two-division champion but has hesitated due to his friendship with Muhammad.
If Maddalena pulls off an upset, Makhachev could shift divisions, potentially vacating the lightweight title or leading to an interim bout. That scenario might see Topuria face another top contender for gold at 155 pounds.
For now, Topuria has made it known he's ready—and willing—to challenge the reigning champion.

Alcaraz eases past Medjedovic in Cincinnati before rain forces suspension
Carlos Alcaraz beat Hamad Medjedovic 6-4 6-4 to reach the Cincinnati Open last 16 on Tuesday, battling the sweltering Ohio heat to notch a tour-leading 50th victory of the season before the evening session was suspended due to rain. The Spanish second seed also secured his 13th consecutive win at an ATP Masters 1000 tournament, converting three of seven break points in a deliberate, slow-paced contest. Treated for neck pain after the first set, Serbia's Medjedovic ramped up in the second to shorten rallies, out-hitting Alcaraz 25–16 on winners but committing 38 unforced errors to the Spaniard's 18. 'I know he's a really powerful player,' Alcaraz said. 'His shots are incredibly hard to return. He has a big serve also. I know he doesn't like to run too much from side to side, so my plan was to make him run as much as I could.' Monte Carlo and Rome champion Alcaraz next faces Italian Luca Nardi as he continues his bid for an eight Masters 1000 title. Earlier, Andrey Rublev rallied from a set down to edge Alexei Popyrin 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-5 in a fierce 3-1/2-hour battle. The Russian ninth seed will play against Argentine Franciso Comesana, who claimed a stunning 6-7(4) 6-4 7-5 win over American Reilly Opelka. In the women's draw, second seed Coco Gauff advanced after Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska withdrew from their third-round clash due to illness. The American will face Lucia Bronzetti, who beat 23rd seed Jelena Ostapenko 1-6 6-3 6-4. It marked the second third-round walkover, following fellow Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk's withdrawal before her match against Polish third seed Iga Swiatek. The Wimbledon champion will take on Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16. In the evening session, men's third seed Alexander Zverev and women's fourth seed Jessica Pegula were forced off the court mid-match due to rain and the threat of lightning. The suspension was particularly frustrating for Zverev, who had a 6-4 5-4 lead in his match against American Brandon Nakashima and was about to serve for the win. Pegula rallied to take the second set 6-3 in her meeting with Magda Linette, leaving their match all square after the Pole won the first 7-6(5). Canadian Open winner Ben Shelton's match with Roberto Bautista Agut and Dane Clara Tauson's match with Veronika Kudermetova were both moved to Wednesday. Tuesday's rain-enforced suspension was the latest in a string of interruptions at the Cincinnati Open this week. On Monday, Jannik Sinner's win over Gabriel Diallo was delayed by a fire alarm before the players continued through the noise. There was also a one-hour delay due to a power outage.

UFC paramount deal: Dana White says PPVs 'not dead yet' as Conor McGregor has his say on $7.7 billion deal
UFC has agreed a $7.7 billion partnership with Paramount+ that will make all its events available on the streaming platform from January 2026, ending the pay-per-view model for its numbered cards. The announcement was made on Monday by UFC president Dana White, confirming that the agreement covers the promotion's full calendar of 43 annual events. These include 30 Fight Night cards and 13 numbered events, which have traditionally been sold separately through pay-per-view. Breaking News 🚨UFC has a new home in 2026 only on @paramountplus — danawhite (@danawhite) August 11, 2025 Under the new arrangement, all events will be included in a single Paramount+ package for subscribers, marking a significant change in how the UFC's biggest fights will be accessed. The deal is set to begin in January 2026 and is valued at $7.7 billion over its duration, as reported by CNBC. White described the agreement as a milestone for the promotion, saying it would give fans easier access to the sport's top bouts without the additional cost of pay-per-view. Following the news, a number of UFC fighters - both current and retired - have shared their reaction on social media. The controversial Conor McGregor, arguably UFC's biggest PPV draw, said his 'goodbyes' to the pay-per-view model. The UFC has relied on the pay-per-view model for decades, particularly for high-profile championship fights. UFC 229, which featured the infamous Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor fight, reportedly sold over 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, the third most for a combat sports event globally. The shift also mirrors wider industry trends towards streaming services and bundled content, offering MMA fans a single subscription for access to all major events.

UFC broadcasting rights move to Paramount in $7.7 billion deal starting 2026
Paramount has signed a landmark $7.7 billion agreement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), securing exclusive U.S. broadcasting and streaming rights for all UFC events beginning in 2026. The seven-year deal, announced on August 11, will see CBS and Paramount+ stream and air 30 UFC Fight Nights and 13 marquee events annually. This agreement effectively ends UFC's current partnership with ESPN+, which pays $550 million per year and uses a pay-per-view model. The new deal more than doubles that annual value, averaging $1.1 billion per year, according to Sportico. The move comes on the heels of Paramount's merger with Skydance Corporation and is part of a broader strategy under new CEO David Ellison. In a statement, Ellison emphasized that live sports are 'a cornerstone' of Paramount's vision to drive engagement and subscriber growth. Paramount+ currently trails behind major competitors like Netflix and Disney+, with subscriber numbers declining to 77.7 million as of June 30. Under the new agreement, select UFC events will also simulcast on CBS. Mark Shapiro, president and COO of UFC's parent company TKO Group, called the deal 'a major win' for fans and athletes, promising broader reach and deeper engagement. Paramount also indicated interest in pursuing international UFC rights as they become available. The deal is expected to reshape UFC's distribution model in the U.S., eliminating pay-per-view and increasing accessibility for fans. It also coincides with political developments surrounding the merger, including past concessions by Paramount that allegedly helped gain regulatory approval. In a symbolic gesture, the deal could culminate in a UFC event at the White House in July 2026, as part of the United States' 250th Independence Day celebrations. President Donald Trump, who has longstanding ties to UFC President Dana White and has attended several recent fights with Ellison, is reportedly planning the event. Meanwhile, ESPN will shift focus to WWE, securing rights to major events like Wrestlemania and SummerSlam under a separate five-year agreement starting in 2026.
