Bey's Cowboy Carter Tour played the first show of five nights at the East Rutherford venue on Thursday, May 22. The global superstar made her name in the R&B and pop world, so why the shift to country?
Although it hasn't been confirmed, many feel Beyoncé's less-than-warm reception at the 2016 Country Music Awards triggered the shift.
'It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed … and it was very clear that I wasn't,' said Beyonce in an 2024 Instagram post.
Bey performed with the Chicks at the 2016 CMAs.
'The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me,' Beyonce added. 'Act II is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.'
'Act II' is 'Cowboy Carter,' and this act is still unfolding. Upcoming shows at MetLife are Saturday, May 24; Sunday, May 25; Wednesday, May 28; and Friday, May 29.

Doors are set to open at 5 p.m., with the show scheduled to begin around 7:30 p.m., according to the stadium's site. Fans should note bars close at 9:30 p.m., while the the venue closes at midnight. However, these times are subject to change and may vary for attendees with premium experiences. Club Ho-Down early entry and VIP check-in will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Fans who have general admission and standing room only tickets do not have assigned positions and should prepare to arrive early. Singer Beyonce is to bring her Cowboy Carter Tour to London for six performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 43-year-old will perform her first show in the run on Thursday, followed by shows on June 7, 10, 12, 14, and 16, after the tour for her eighth studio album began in April in the US in Inglewood, California. The singer last performed in the UK in 2023 on the Renaissance World Tour, which saw her play five dates at the same London venue, and will arrive in the capital having just played five dates in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
