Kelsey Plum's teammate explains controversial Sparks fan interaction

The post Kelsey Plum's teammate explains controversial Sparks fan interaction appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Sparks look to have taken a step forward during the 2025 WNBA season. LA traded for star guard Kelsey Plum this offseason and will eventually have a healthy Cameron Brink as well. Sparks fans seem to be more excited about the team this season, and some are stretching that excitement a little too far. Advertisement Sparks guard Kelsey Plum went viral on social media for a controversial fan interaction. In the video, Plum is visibly annoyed about the presence of fans asking for autographs outside of the hotel the team is staying at. The fan in the video seemed to defend their presence at the hotel by stating they saw the team bus parked outside. But Plum wasn't buying it. 'Don't y'all find that kind of weird? Like low key? Come on,' Plum said. 'I'm really turned off right now.' Plum eventually signed one autograph for the fan before heading inside. As is usually the case, there is some missing context surrounding this particular fan interaction. Advertisement Fellow Sparks teammate Dearica Hamby stood up for Plum on social media. Hamby gave some context about the fan interaction. 'There is context to this,' Hamby wrote. 'We literally left for practice and changed hotels… so to be there the moment we got there after SWITCHING hotels without being like HEY WE'RE SWITCHING HOTELS was weird.' Hamby makes an excellent point that the fans' presence at the hotel is concerning. Especially if nobody was supposed to know about the team's new hotel arrangements. Thankfully the interaction did not escalate any further. Sparks rookie explains how Kelsey Plum has helped her during 2025 season Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Plum has already made a big impact on the Sparks. Advertisement Sparks rookie Sarah Ashlee Barker explained how Plum has helped her adjust to the WNBA during a recent interview. 'She's been a leader to me pretty much ever since I got to LA. Just having her voice, she has so much experience so I'm gonna listen to anything that she says,' Barker said. 'And she's always telling me just to have fun too with the game of basketball. When we were on the bench, she was just like, 'hey, they're going under you, just shoot the ball.'' Plum has played well in LA so far this season. She is averaging 20.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Plum averages 36 minutes per game, showing how important she is for the Sparks. Next up for the Sparks is a trip to Minnesota to take on the Lynx on Saturday night. Sparks coach Lynne Roberts drops truth bomb on seldom-used rookie

The post Sparks coach Lynne Roberts drops truth bomb on seldom-used rookie appeared first on ClutchPoints. LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Sparks selected three players in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Sarah Ashlee Barker, Sania Feagin and Liatu King. Barker and Feagin made the team out of training camp while King was cut, but later brought back on a hardship contract. With the Sparks being hit with a wave of absences and injury issues, the rookies have been called into duty early in the season. Advertisement Barker and King have been part of the rotation for most of the year, but Sania Feagin has been the one rookie on the Sparks roster who hasn't seen much playing time. That changed during the team's 98-67 loss to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. Feagin came off the bench and played a little over ten minutes, a career-high so far. Before Tuesday's game, she had only played in three other games averaging between two to three minutes of playing time. She did not score at all against the Storm, going 0-of-4 from the field, but her intensity and instincts on the defensive end stood out. Following the game, Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts acknowledged the impact Feagin had in extended minutes. 'I wanted to give her a shot here and just see if she could bring some life. We needed some life,' Roberts said. 'She didn't connect on those shots, but she still brought life. She had a great block. She's a big, strong kid and she just brings energy. She talks, all those things, so we can build on that with her.' Advertisement The block that Roberts was talking about came as the third quarter was winding down. Storm guard Erica Wheeler found herself matched up with Feagin. Wheeler beat Feagin off the dribble and got to the basket, only to have Feagin quickly recover and block the shot with her off-hand. That block was one of a a team-high three blocked shots she had on the night. But it wasn't only Feagin's defense that was on display for the Sparks. When she was in college at South Carolina, Feagin showed the ability to pass not only out of the post, but from the high post finding cutters and post-ups as well. She did that too against the Storm, as noted by Christan Braswell of Circling Seattle Sports. Back during training camp, Feagin spoke about expanding her game to be able to shoot more from three-point range. She took two three-point shots against the Storm but did not covert on either of them. They were rhythm shots though, and her confidence in shooting those threes is certainly a welcome sign for the Sparks. The injuries and absences the Sparks have been hit with are mainly on the wing and in the backcourt. The team's frontcourt is veteran-heavy with Dearica Hamby and Azurá Stevens as the starters, and Emma Cannon and Mercedes Russell off the bench. So it's not clear yet what kind of a role Feagin may have going forward. But she showed what she can be capable of in her first extended run of the season. Dearica Hamby reveals blueprint for success amid brutal loss vs. Lynx

The post Dearica Hamby reveals blueprint for success amid brutal loss vs. Lynx appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Sparks current losing streak reached three games following their 82-66 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday. The loss was disappointing for two reason; the first being that the Sparks held a lead with a little over seven minutes to go, and the second being that the Lynx were without star forward Napheesa Collier. But even with the loss, Sparks star Dearica Hamby believes the team found something in terms of being able to have future success. Advertisement Following the Sparks' loss to the Lynx, Dearica Hamby spoke about the team's defense through the majority of the game and how that essentially laid the blueprint for how they need to play in order to get more wins. 'I'd say defensively we probably showed what we want our identity to be moving forward,' Hamby said. 'We showed that we're capable of playing hard and pressuring the ball, getting into peoples' space. So that should be the way we should play for 40 minutes going forward.' The Sparks forced 21 Lynx turnovers and overall were playing with intensity on the defensive end, at least until the fourth quarter. Following a Sarah Ashlee Barker three-point shot that put the Sparks up, 59-58, the Lynx rattled off ten straight points to take control of the game and never look back. In what began as a season filled with new promise and increased expectations following the acquisition of star guard Kelsey Plum, the Sparks have struggled to find consistency amid a shuffling lineup. Alongside Plum, Hamby is one of the veteran leaders of a team that has suddenly found itself relying on young and inexperienced players. Advertisement With the Sparks having two more games coming up quickly on this current road trip, Hamby's main message for the young players is essentially to have short-term memory. 'You just kind of have to have short-term memory,' Hamby said. 'We'll go to sleep, we'll wake up and like Coach [Roberts] said, we'll be enthusiastic and encouraging. And not to say that the game before didn't happen, but you can't harp too long on the loss.' It's been a tough past couple of seasons record-wise for the Sparks, but one of the key constants for the team has been the veteran presence of Hamby. She made the All-Star team last season, and her play this season has been worthy of another selection. Hamby has played in all 13 games for the Sparks this season, at a little over 32 minutes per game. She's been averaging 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals with splits of 51.6 percent shooting from the field, 28.6 percent shooting from the three-point line and 60.2 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
