Mariners' Victor Robles (shoulder) expected to miss 12 weeks
While it appears Robles will avoid surgery, the team expects Robles' fracture to heal in approximately six weeks. At that point, he will need a rehab schedule of an additional six more weeks in order to get up to speed.
Robles was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, one day after he made a jumping catch of a long ball hit by Patrick Bailey of the San Francisco Giants in the bottom of the ninth that had barely turned foul.
His glove hand still outstretched, Robles' elbow appeared to make contact with a padded wall and he also got tangled in netting. Robles was carted off the field.
Robles, 27, joined the Mariners after being waived by the Washington Nationals during the 2024 season. Robles was Seattle's leadoff batter in its first 10 games of this season, hitting .273 with three doubles, three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases.
Robles has batted .248 in his 617-game career with Washington (2017-24) and Seattle, recording 35 homers, 185 RBIs, 257 runs and 103 stolen bases.

Giants RHP Landen Roupp knocked out of game by line drive
August 21 - San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp was knocked out of Wednesday night's game at the San Diego Padres in the bottom of the third inning after getting struck in the back of the right thigh by a line drive. Roupp was drilled by Ramon Laureano's shot up the middle, which came off the bat at 95.7 miles per hour. The impact spin Roupp around before his left knee buckled and he crumpled to the field. Roupp was aided by training staff from both teams before being carted off. The righthy departed after pitching 2 1/3 innings with runners on first and second and his team trailing 3-0. Joey Lucchesi entered in relief and promptly allowed a three-run homer to Gavin Sheets, adding insult to literal injury. Roupp was charged with five runs off five hits during his stint on the mound, walking two and fanning two. He entered the game with a 7-6 record and a 3.45 earned run average. --Field Level Media

'I got scared when I googled it' – Michael Smith diagnosed with 'severe' condition
Michael Smith has fallen to 21st in the rankings after struggling with a series of health problems, but the 34-year-old ex-world champion is determined to return to the top Darts star Michael Smith has revealed the extent of his health problems after tumbling down the rankings. Smith beat Michael van Gerwen to win the World Championship in 2023 but is now ranked 21st in the world. The 34-year-old has been absent from recent competitions due to a variety of health problems, including issues with his shoulder, wrist and foot, which he has now opened up on. Bully Boy has been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in his shoulder and believes his body is 'just packing up'. While he is confident of returning to the oche at the highest level, with injections an option, he thinks surgery may be necessary further down the line. "I got my MRI back for my shoulder. I've got severe osteoarthritis or something like that—I can't even say it properly,' he told Online Darts. 'The next step now is injections for my shoulder and wrist. "Worst case is a shoulder replacement, which isn't great, but that would only be when I retire. For now, it's injections. A new shoulder would be like learning to play again. I got scared when I googled it. "I just heard arthritis, but then all the stuff before it scared me. They mentioned cortisone for my wrist, PRP which I need too, and then shoulder replacement where they cut your rotator cuff. That's where I panicked. But the operation won't be until I retire anyway – 45, 46 maybe. For now, I'll just deal with it.' Smith previously struggled with serious pain in his foot, which still remains without a proper diagnosis. 'Before the last Pro Tour, I struggled to walk on my left foot. At first I thought it was gout,' he added. 'But it went on for weeks and my foot swelled like a balloon. 'I've had blood tests, x-rays, antibiotics, painkillers – they're even talking about steroids now. It might be arthritis in my foot as well. My body's just packing up.' Smith has been a constant at the top of darts for some time, but recently missed out on qualification to the World Matchplay for the first time since 2013. In his last match he was beaten in the first round of the Players Championship 21 by Krzysztof Ratajski and says his health issues hampered him. 'It's not nice slipping down the rankings, but I've had a couple of semis on the floor and a UK Open semi-final this year. Still, it's not where I want to be,' he said. 'It's consistency that's missing. I'm not blaming my shoulder – it's my head. I go into matches thinking, 'I hope my shoulder doesn't click or my wrist doesn't give out.' They're fine, but it's me worrying. That's the real issue.'

JP Sears faces Giants as Padres get a second look at left-hander
August 20 - JP Sears gets a second chance to make a good impression on the San Diego Padres. Acquired from the Athletics on July 31 as part of the six-player blockbuster trade that involved closer Mason Miller and former San Diego top prospect Leo De Vries, Sears will start for the Padres Wednesday night when they continue their four-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Sears (7-10, 5.12 ERA) started his first game with San Diego on Aug. 4 at Arizona and struggled, suffering a 6-2 defeat as he was touched for 10 hits and five runs over five innings. The left-hander went down to Triple-A El Paso the next day and won his only outing for the Chihuahuas, scattering six hits and allowing two runs over five innings in a 9-7 game on Aug. 12 against Triple-A Reno. The Padres hope Sears will perform better in his second stint for two reasons: Petco Park's tendency to suppress offense and his career numbers against San Francisco. He's 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA in four career starts, striking out 26 batters over 24 2/3 innings. He fired six scoreless innings against them on July 4 in an 11-2 win. After a series-opening loss on Monday, San Diego evened the series Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory, getting two hits and an RBI each from Manny Machado and Ryan O'Hearn. It scored in four different innings, taking advantage of a variety of Giants mistakes that included errors, bases-filled walks and hit batters. "It was hugely important for us to get back into the win column," said O'Hearn of the Padres, who open play Wednesday two games behind the Los Angeles Dodges in the National League West but in wild-card position. The Padres won without Jackson Merrill (ankle) and Jake Cronenworth (elbow). Merrill missed his second straight game and Cronenworth got the night off after being drilled by a Robbie Ray fastball in Monday night's 4-3 defeat. While San Diego now tries to put together a winning streak after snapping a four-game losing skid on Tuesday, San Francisco will attempt to clean things up after a sloppy showing. The Giants managed just four hits against four pitchers, striking out 12 times, and committed two errors for the third straight game. Shortstop Christian Koss' throwing error to start the bottom of the first led to an unearned run, while third baseman Casey Schmitt's wild throw after an infield hit led to an extra base and a run in the sixth. Reliever Carson Seymour could have escaped that inning with a double play ball but his throw to second for the force wasn't a good one, requiring Koss to make a great catch just to get an out as the Padres' final run scored. The Giants played without shortstop Willy Adames, held out with right side soreness. Manager Bob Melvin said it wasn't easy to get him out of the lineup. "It was a bit of a fist fight to talk him out of it," Melvin said. "He wants to play." Landen Roupp (7-6, 3.45) gets the start Wednesday night for San Francisco. He gave up five runs on five hits in three innings of the team's 7-6 loss Friday night against Tampa Bay. He did not figure into the decision. Roupp is 0-1 in six career appearances (three starts) with a 1.93 ERA against San Diego. --Field Level Media
