After Pixar's Incredibles 3 Confirms A Major Change, I'm Actually More Excited For The Movie
I was in the audience at D23 last summer when Pixar CCO Pete Docter confirmed that Brad Bird was already at work developing Incredibles 3. There was, unsurprisingly, a lot of applause following that announcement. The Incredibles is one of Pixar's most beloved films. Incredibles 2 was the top-grossing Pixar movie ever made until Inside Out 2 dethroned it last summer.
I like both Incredibles films, but I have to admit I wasn't overwhelmed with excitement that Incredibles 3 was on the way. There was no reason to believe it wouldn't be a solid film, but I just found it less interesting than doing something new or even making a sequel to a film that hadn't already received one. But now I'm a bit more curious about Incredibles 3 because it will be different from the previous films in a big way.
Today, THR broke the news that while Brad Bird will write and produce Incredibles 3, he will not direct the movie, as he had done with each of the previous Incredibles franchise entries. Instead, directing duties will be handled by Peter Sohn, who most recently directed Pixar's Elemental.
While it had been widely assumed that Bird would direct the movie, it had never been specifically stated by Pixar. Perhaps that had even been the plan at one point. Bird does have other projects he's directing, including Ray Gunn for Netflix. It's possible Bird just didn't have the time in his schedule. Bird and Docter reportedly jointly selected Sohn as the man who should direct the new film.
But now you have my attention. My love for Elemental is well known to frequent CinemaBlend readers. I think it's the best movie Pixar has made in a long time. Pixar has always been good at turning things without consciousness into living things that we care about and cry over. But in Elemental, we saw those characters fall in love, and the movie let a single relationship carry the weight of the entire story.
If Peter Sohn can do that with fire and water, then I have high hopes that he can do even more with characters that are actually human. It might be just enough of a different vibe to an Incredibles movie that it feels unique and not simply like it's another of the same movie for the third time.
Fans of Brad Bird need not worry. He's still writing the film, so one assumes the final script, the plot, the dialogue, etc, will be mostly his work. It will still be Bird's story, and Sohn has been one of his long-time collaborator. Sohn began his professional career as an animator on The Iron Giant and has contributed to every film Bird has made for Pixar, including both previous Incredibles movies. If there's another person capable of bringing Brad Bird's work to life properly, it's probably Peter Sohn.
The fact that a director has been slotted indicates that Incredibles 3 is probably getting ready to shift into more of a production status, though the movie is probably at least a couple of years away at least. Still, I'm looking forward to when that day comes more now than I was before.

The Mayor of Kingstown season 3 finale was tumultuous, to say the least. While a lot of issues were resolved, most importantly the Russian mafia which has had a chokehold on the McClusky family for three strong seasons, the stage is set for Mike to navigate new territory. It also comes as no surprise really that new cast announcements have been made for Mayor of Kingstown season 4, considering the characters that were lost in season 3. There was Iris (Emma Laird) and Kareem (Michael Beach) met their untimely fates. And, Milo (Aidan Gillen), who seemingly returned from the dead to take over Konstantin, succeeding with the manipulation of Iris before being overpowered by Mike. Milo's return made Mike's plan to finally rid Kingstown of its Russian problem in the season 3 finale a little tricky, but he managed it all the same. For season 4 though, co-creator Hugh Dillon told The Hollywood Reporter that the season 3 finale: "leaves a vacuum". But, he adds: "And it will be filled, it's human nature". But, who's next to step into the criminal abyss left behind by the eradication of the Russian mafia, we'll have to wait and see. Then, there was the shootout on the bridge during a confrontation with Bunny's game, which saw Kyle shoot at Robert to protect the innocent civilians around them. While this subsequently led to Kyle's arrest, it leaves the door open for Robert's story in season 4 given Evelyn is still hellbent on looking into him, despite him recovering in hospital from Kyle's shooting. It's all speculation for now as the Mayor of Kingstown season 4 plot is kept firmly under wraps. And I'd expect no less from a show filled with complicated dynamics and brutal exchanges. Though, Dillon did say, when it comes to Mayor of Kingstown season 4: "The scripts are graet, the characters great. And that's what we want to do. We don't want to leave any strone unturned. This show is very much rock 'n' roll". Will there be more seasons of Mayor of Kingstown? Mayor of Kingstown has a rather complicated relationship with renewals, especially after Jeremy Renner's serious accident in 2023 left the entire show hanging in the balance. But, even after returning for season 3, it still took a few months to confirm the return of Mayor of Kingstown season 4 was happening. It appears though that the plan has always been for more. In conversation with ScreenRant, Hugh Dillon reveals the aim has always been for multiple more seasons – with Taylor Sheridan already having planned an ending in season 7: "Well, Taylor's my mentor, he has been. He's coached me, this was the first thing he ever wrote, and he was my acting coach. "He coached me on 100 episodes of TV, and we would talk about this all the time. And when we first mapped it out, he's the king of knowing where it ends. I like intros, and I like explosive intros. And he has an ending for it in season 7". Dillon added: "So, our goal is to get to that season 7, because that's as far as we can get, because that's where he's always had it". Whether the show makes it that far is one thing, but if Sheridan has plans to extend its run with a multi-year deal at Paramount+ already in place, there's some real hope for more Mayor of Kingstown. I need new Paramount + series Avatar: Seven Havens like it was yesterday, and not just because I hated Netflix's live-action remake of The Last Airbender

San Diego Comic Con 2025 has confirmed a new spinoff series from the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe will air on Nickelodeon then stream on Paramount+ in 2027, called Avatar: Seven Havens. As of writing, we've got three Avatar: The Last Airbender related projects in the works. On top of the new spinoff, there's seasons 2 and 3 of Netflix's live action Avatar: The Last Airbender and standalone movie The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, both due to be released in 2026. In Avatar: Seven Havens, we get to relive the glory of the original 2005 animation all over again, with a new young Earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar after Korra, who was first introduced in The Legend of Korra. Original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are also returning for the project, which will split its 26 episodes across two seasons. To top it all off, the first-look image confirms that the series is sticking to the classic 2D animation style that made it so popular in the first place. So far, so good. Avatar: Seven Havens isn't putting a step wrong, and that should send alarm bells ringing at Netflix HQ. It's fair to say the reviews for season 1 of their Avatar adaptation were mixed at best, but with hype dying down before Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 even comes out, it's Paramount+'s time to shine. Avatar: Seven Havens is already running rings around Netflix's The Last Airbender remake While I love rewatching the original cartoon whenever I can, I don't think I'll ever watch Netflix's version of Avatar: The Last Airbender again. The heart was completely missing, the chemistry between its bulging ensemble cast was barely there, and the storyline was incredibly ropey in too many season lulls, despite the visuals largely holding strong. As far as we're aware, season 2 is still in production, but Netflix is now set to be second-best to Seven Havens unless it gets its act together in the next two years. Sure, it's not M. Night Shyamalan levels of awful (lest we forget his 2010 movie version), but why would fans not invest in an extension of the original animation instead? Seven Havens appears committed to elevating Aang's story to align with what's going on in 2025 society already feels second to none. Here's the full plot: 'Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she's the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity's destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization's last strongholds collapse.' If Seven Havens is as full of wonder, whimsy, and meaning as it's promising, then we could well see Netflix's Avatar viewership dwindle. Frankly, I'll be one of the fans who's more than happy to jump ship… it's been a long time since the journey to becoming the Avatar has filled our cup like it should. It's been suggested by several publications that other key characters from Yellowstone could also make a return, but so far, the only person confirmed is Finn Little who plays Carter. Carter arrived as a 'troubled teen' in season four, who met Beth in hospital, when both their fathers were dying. After Carter's dad dies of a drug addiction, Beth and Rip become Carter's guardians, and he comes to live and work with them on their ranch. Beth is unable to have children and doesn't see herself as maternal, yet she and Rip form a bond with Carter, and come to view him as family. Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler Yellowstone spin-off: the potential plot Well, it's a series that will obviously have Beth and Rip at the heart of the action. At the end of season 5 of Yellowstone (spoilers ahead, if you're not up to date yet) the Dutton Ranch is no more, after being sold to the Broken Rock Reservation, allowing the land to be preserved as a protected reservation. Beth's father, John Dutton III, was murdered by a contract killer (by a gunshot to the head) hired by Jamie Dutton and Sarah Atwood, but it was staged to look like suicide. In the season's finale, Beth, who vowed revenge for her dad's death, stabs Jamie. According to Deadline, the spin-off is likely to pick up where season 5 ended.
