Kansas State Football Preview 2025: Wildcats Season Prediction, Win Total Projection, Top Players
Don't turn it over multiple times. The Kansas State style doesn't work when there are mistakes. Some teams are high-risk, high-reward, and that's not how this rolls. Screw up, and things go wrong. The Wildcats turned it over twice in the opener against UT Martin and won easily, but against FBS teams they were 0-4 when turning it over two or more times. BYU, Arizona State, Iowa State, and Houston - all four were losses. When Kansas State didn't turn it over multiple times, it was 9-0.
Kansas State Wildcats Key Player
George Fitzpatrick, OT Jr.The interior of the Kansas State offensive line is loaded with new parts, options, and giant mashers to get the ground game going. Tackle is a slight problem with a few losses, but the staff went after a few prospects, including Fitzpatrick, a 6-6, 309-pound former Ohio State Buckeye. He needs to be a solid starter.

Kansas State Wildcats Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: JB Nelson, OG Sr.The Kansas State offensive front is already good, and the guards are great, but Nelson is a 6-5, 325-pound All-Big Ten-caliber blaster who could take the line to a whole other level. This could be an NFL showcase season if everything works like it's supposed to.Top Transfer Out: Carver Willis, OT Sr.Kansas State won the transfer portal game in a huge way. It didn't lose any true killers, and the net incoming talent blows away the departures. It's still not a good thing to lose a tackle as good as the 6-5, 291-pound Willis, who's off to work on the outside of the Ole Miss line.
Kansas State Wildcats Key Game
Iowa State, Aug. 23 (in Dublin)Kansas State has lost the last two regular-season finales against Iowa State, and this time around, the matchup kicks things off. It's the first game of the college football season, and it really, really matters. In the dead even Big 12 from top to almost bottom, the loser of this is in huge trouble before things get going.- 2025 Kansas State Schedule Breakdown

Kansas State Wildcats 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
Yes, the Big 12 is loaded with improved teams. But Kansas State improving takes the program from very good to College Football Playoff great. It's a deeper bunch this year, the talent is there on both sides of the ball, and there should be more consistency and explosion.Even so, yeah, again, the Big 12 is going to be an any-given-week thing. There's no Arizona State, BYU, or Houston to face - those were three of the four losses last season. But going to Oklahoma State will be harder than it would've been last season. Kansas is better. Texas Tech is way better. Going to Arizona is difficult. But the Wildcats should be good enough to win their share of 50/50 games to overcome a few losses that are sure to come.
The road trip to Utah late in the campaign will be huge for the conference race, but if the Wildcats beat Iowa State to start the season, they should be in the Big 12 title hunt deep into November.Set The Kansas State Win Total At … 8.5Likely Wins: Army, North Dakota50/50 Games: at Arizona, at Baylor, Colorado, at Kansas, Iowa State (Dublin), at Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, UCF, at UtahLikely Losses: No projected sure-thing losses 2025 Kansas State PreviewKansas State Offense BreakdownKansas State Defense Breakdown

HoopsHype rankings: Rockets star Amen Thompson at No. 7 among NBA shooting guards
HoopsHype's Frank Urbina on Rockets star Amen Thompson: 'The 22-year-old is one of the most fluidly explosive backcourt athletes we have seen in quite some time, and a player with a massive ceiling.' NBA Ranking: The Top 26 shooting guards for 2025-26https:// The Rockets traded Jalen Green to the Phoenix Suns as part of the blockbuster deal bringing All-Star forward Kevin Durant to Houston. Yet, despite not bringing back a shooting guard in the deal, there's a strong case to be made that Houston actually got better at that position for next season. That's because rising star Amen Thompson now shifts into the backcourt for the Rockets, with Jabari Smith Jr. taking back his previous spot (alongside Durant) as a starting forward. Indeed, heading into the 2025-26 season, HoopsHype's ranking of the NBA's top shooting guards lists Green at No. 14 and Thompson at No. 7. Via Frank Urbina, the analysis: Speaking of unique 2-guards, Amen Thompson fits the bill, as the 22-year-old is one of the most fluidly explosive backcourt athletes we have seen in quite some time, and a player with a massive ceiling. Thompson is a slippery guard with great size, strength and athleticism, capable of getting to the rim and finishing with aplomb. If he just had a more reliable jumper, we'd be projecting a first-time All-Star bid in Thompson's near future. Unfortunately for him, his jumper, especially off the dribble, remains a work in progress, as Thompson hit just 27.5% of his 3-pointers last season. His work as a pull-up shooter out of the midrange remains equally lacking. Regardless, as a guard standing at 6-foot-7 with a freakish 7-foot wingspan and solid ball-handling, Thompson's potential is through the roof. What's more, he's already so unique in that he rebounds like a big man and finishes near the basket as efficiently as one, as evidenced by his near-56% shooting accuracy in 2024-25. If he just figures out how to shoot the ball more accurately from the outside, we're talking All-NBA-level potential with Thompson. As is, he is already one of the top defenders in the game, one coming off the initial All-Defensive First Team of his career. We expect many more accolades in Thompson's future. Thompson is ranked just behind Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat (No. 6) and Devin Booker of the Suns (No. 5) on HoopsHype's latest positional list. Thompson's backcourt mate in Houston, Fred VanVleet, checked in at No. 17 on HoopsHype's list of top point guards. The rankings for small forwards, power forwards, and centers are still to come. Wisconsin football omitted from preseason AP Poll
The first AP Poll for the 2025 season was released on Monday. The preseason ranking marks the first time the outlet has published a hierarchy since Jan. 20, after the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 2025 College Football Playoff title game. The Texas Longhorns, who fell to the Buckeyes on Jan. 10 in the Cotton Bowl Classic, hold the No. 1 position in the poll ahead of the 2025 slate. The Penn State Nittany Lions (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3), Oregon Ducks (No. 7), Illinois Fighting Illini (No. 12), Michigan Wolverines (No. 14) and Indiana Hoosiers (No. 20) comprised the Big Ten talent featured on the poll's first installation of the season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers also received 23 votes, while the Iowa Hawkeyes reeled in five votes. Wisconsin, meanwhile, did not receive a single vote in Aug. 11's installation. UW finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-7 mark, which included a five-game losing streak to wrap the season. The Badgers' lackluster performance also resulted in the program's first season missing out on a bowl game in over 20 years. Most notably, Luke Fickell's crew is slated to line up across from six AP top 25 ranked programs throughout the 2025 season. With hopes of avenging its 42-10 Week 3 loss in 2024, Wisconsin will take on the No. 8-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 13 in Tuscaloosa. UW will then venture to Ann Arbor for a tilt against the Wolverines on Oct. 4 before back-to-back contests against the Buckeyes in Madison and Ducks in Eugene on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, respectively. A road bout vs. the Hoosiers, another College Football Playoff team from 2024, awaits on Nov. 15 prior to a Nov. 22 clash against Illinois at Camp Randall. While talking heads across the country acknowledged how difficult UW's 2025 gauntlet was throughout the offseason, Monday's AP Poll reaffirms that notion. Outside of the Badgers' first two games against Miami (Ohio) and Middle Tennessee, UW will need to scratch and claw for the remainder of the season with first year offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes and quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. at the helm. Red Sox Insider 'Can't See' Team Allowing Garrett Crochet to Receive 'Huge Honor'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Red Sox have to be happy with their decision to trade for pitcher Garrett Crochet this past winter. Although the team did give up some significant future talent to acquire him from the Chicago White Sox, including top catching prospect Kyle Teel, Crochet has been everything they might have hoped. The southpaw has an American League-best 2.24 ERA in 23 starts so far and leads all of the majors with 13 wins and more than 148 innings so far. He has been durable and received his second straight All-Star nod this year and looks like he could be a steal for the franchise after he signed a six-year, $170 million extension earlier this season. And as Crochet emerges as one of the best hurlers in the sport, he's surely grabbing the attention of Team USA as it assembles a roster for next year's World Baseball Classic. (Photo by Maddie Malhotra/Boston) More Malhorta/Getty "Obviously, it would be a huge honor," Crochet said of potentially being asked to join the team, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive. "I'd hope the organization would view it as an honor as well. If I was asked, I'd definitely enjoy participating and I'd love to participate." But while Crochet sees the international tournament as an intriguing opportunity, the Red Sox are expected to see it differently. Historically, Team USA has had a hard time convincing top pitchers to participate in the event, as it raises their chances of being hurt and adds some competitive innings totals to their arms. Though he's proven to be resilient since becoming a starter last season, Crochet has a significant injury history from earlier in his career. And the Red Sox just made a long-term investment in him. As a result, the team might deny him the honor of joining Team USA. "Crochet has said he'd like to be a part of it, but I can't see the Sox signing off — given the number of arm injuries that tend to show up in spring training and Crochet's importance to the franchise," MassLive's Sean McAdam wrote. "Traditionally, the Red Sox have seemed to discourage participation — the last Sox player to take part in the WBC was Shane Victorino in 2013." Given his sustained success this season, Crochet is surely drawing interest from Team USA. And it sounds like he's ready to accept an invitation, though his time will probably intervene.
