Oman: Gulf Green Mobility Forum in Salalah on August 31
The event aims to encourage the use of clean and alternative transport methods and facilitate the exchange of expertise on sustainable mobility across the Gulf region.
The forum will highlight policies and initiatives designed to achieve net-zero emissions and reduce carbon output in transportation. It will be preceded by specialised workshops including 'Gulf Youth Leading Change' at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment and 'Green Corridors for Gulf Ports' at the Rotana Hotel in Salalah. Several agreements for strategic partnerships in green transport will also be signed during the event.
The forum has been described by officials as a milestone in the Gulf's pursuit of a cleaner future and a key platform supporting Oman's environmental sustainability goals aligned with Oman Vision 2040. It also aims to strengthen Gulf integration in low-emission transport and the transition to greener alternatives.
Ahead of the forum, the ministry organised a virtual workshop with the GCC General Secretariat, involving representatives from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. It focused on practical outcomes and mechanisms to support sustainable mobility and boost environmental and economic cooperation in the region.
To raise awareness locally, Dhofar governorate will host sports and awareness activities for children on August 15 and 16. These include a marathon and a cycling track conducted in a safe environment under specialist supervision. 'The goal is to foster a culture of green mobility from an early age and promote healthy, sustainable lifestyles,' organisers said.

Regional collaboration, he added, is a cornerstone for strengthening technological readiness and unifying efforts toward a sustainable digital future that keeps pace with rapid developments and fulfils the aspirations of two workshops aimed to enhance participants' capabilities by providing best practices in identifying and evaluating AI use cases, understanding the factors that make AI implementation a success story, and equipping them with practical models and global examples that can be applied to provide optimal recommendations for various workshops addressed several key topics, most notably: the role of AI agents; practical, government-related use cases; understanding the nature of AI agents; learning how they operate; assessing the feasibility of replacing or supporting human-like roles with AI agents; and envisioning how AI agents function in its launch, the UAE Artificial Intelligence Camp has witnessed strong engagement and broad participation from all segments of society, attracting more than 34,000 participants from various educational levels and academic backgrounds to its diverse activities, training workshops, and discussion sessions. These initiatives aimed to develop participants' skills using the latest technological solutions and innovations, covering seven main themes: the future of artificial intelligence; data science and machine learning; smart applications in education, healthcare, and the financial sector; web and robotics development; AI governance and ethics; cybersecurity; and virtual and augmented reality.

United Arab Emirates - MSC Group's Cruise Division today published its 2024 Sustainability Report reaffirming its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, accompanied by an independently verified Energy Transition Plan (ETP) to clearly show how it is working to achieve this ambition. The report, now in its sixth edition, highlights milestones in environmental innovation, responsible tourism, and social impact. It reflects MSC Group's Cruise Division's integrated approach to sustainability for its MSC Cruises' and Explora Journeys' brands. Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman, MSC Group's Cruise Division, said: 'As a family business, we do not operate ships just for tomorrow. We sail them for future generations, designed for fuel flexibility, guided by innovation, and powered by people who share our long-term vision. 'The Cruise Division in 2024 reaffirmed its commitment to advancing a bold and transparent sustainability strategy that balances environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic resilience.' Report highlights include: Launching of the Energy Transition Plan for the fleets of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, outlining interim absolute emissions reduction targets. This is a published roadmap to achieving net-zero GHG emissions from marine operations by 2050. Avoiding 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions through fleet-wide optimisation tools (OptiCruise and Oceanly Performance) which support real-time operational efficiency and itinerary planning. An increase in shore power connections from 44 in 2023 to 142 in 2024, across 13 ports. All new ships since 2017 are shore-power ready with retrofitting continuing across the fleet, and the Cruise Division remains committed to using shore power wherever it's available. An increase in crew retention rate to 89%, up from 83% in 2023, demonstrating the commitment of the Cruise Division to employee engagement and development. The formation of a Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee, underlining a strong commitment to workforce equity across over 140 nationalities. Continued investment in destinations like Ocean Cay, where environmental stewardship has enabled marine wildlife to thrive and coral restoration is underway. Whale strike prevention training for 469 key crew members in conjunction with marine protection charity ORCA to understand more about the species of whale at risk, how to identify them, and take steps to reduce the risk. More than 4,500 shore excursions offered in 84 countries, including 284 'Protectours', low-impact experiences. The report also shows that in 2024 the fleets of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys together carried 4.6 million guests and sailed to 341 itineraries in 90 countries. Dubai Municipality conducts 25,000 field inspections to regulate construction activities in first half of 2025

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Municipality has announced significant achievements in regulating and monitoring construction activities during the first half of 2025, completing more than 25,000 field inspections — a 36% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The inspections covered over 18,800 buildings under construction, with a total built-up area exceeding 36 million square metres, marking an 11% increase from last year and reflecting continued growth in new projects across the emirate. These results highlight Dubai Municipality's comprehensive regulatory strategy, ensuring safety and quality throughout all stages of construction. Additionally, 16.4 million cubic metres of soil were recycled and transported — the equivalent of filling approximately 6,500 Olympic-size swimming pools. The Municipality issued 4,222 permits for sand transport and supply, ensuring optimal resource use, and approved over 1,126 requests for free sand to support Emirati citizens building private villas.
