Cardi B refuses to apologise for ‘fat as f***' fan joke

Express Tribune3 days ago
Cardi B is not backing down after sparking backlash for calling members of her own fanbase 'fat as f***' during a livestream.
The 'WAP' rapper, whose loyal supporters proudly identify as the #BardiGang, was chatting with followers about merchandise for her upcoming album Am I the Drama when she noted that the 3XL T-shirts had sold out faster than smaller sizes. Laughing, she quipped, 'You fat fs. You guys are fat as f, no Chick-fil-A for y'all.'
The comment immediately set off a wave of criticism online, with some fans accusing the Grammy winner of being 'fatphobic' and insensitive toward her plus-sized supporters. But Cardi, born Belcalis Almánzar, says the joke has been taken far too seriously.
Addressing the controversy in a TikTok posted on August 8, she explained, 'It was an innocent joke between me and my fans…it's not that serious. Especially when it comes to me, I make fun of everybody. I don't care if you fat, skinny, BBL down, got big feet, got small feet, whatever. As long as you don't stink, I don't give a damn.'
She went on to note that she is regularly mocked herself, particularly for her Brazilian butt lift, joking that people are 'BBL-phobic' towards her. Still, she made it clear that anyone waiting for an apology will be waiting forever.
'I'm not going to apologise because y'all are sensitive and wanna cry about some dumb sht,' she declared. 'Every day y'all wanna cry about some dumb sht.'
The incident adds to Cardi's long history of unapologetic public moments. While some fans defended her comments as part of her trademark humour, others say she crossed a line by making her own supporters the punchline. Regardless, Cardi appears unfazed, choosing to double down rather than soften her words.

Cardi B announces new single ‘Imaginary Players' ahead of long-awaited sophomore album

Cardi B has officially announced the release of her next single, 'Imaginary Players,' set to drop this Friday, August 15. The rapper shared the news on Instagram with a bold promotional image featuring her in pink hair, draped in a white fur coat and posing in front of a white Rolls Royce. 'Just a lil taste of the drama. IMAGINARY PLAYERS THIS FRIDAY,' she wrote in the caption. The track will be part of her upcoming sophomore album Am I the Drama?, which is slated for release on September 19 via Atlantic Records. This marks her first full-length project since 2018's Invasion of Privacy, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, and later made history as the first album by a female rapper to have all tracks certified platinum or higher by the RIAA. 'Imaginary Players' follows the success of her recent single 'Outside,' which topped both the Rhythmic Airplay and Rap Airplay charts earlier this month. It also entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 10, becoming Cardi B's 13th top 10 hit. In addition to 'Imaginary Players' and 'Outside,' the new album will include her chart-topping collaborations 'WAP' with Megan Thee Stallion and 'Up.' Addressing criticism about including previously released singles, Cardi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), 'WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs… my fans have been asking me to put them on an album… they deserve a home.' Am I the Drama? has been in the making for seven years and is one of the most anticipated hip-hop releases of 2024. With her signature style and bold visuals, Cardi B promises to bring more drama, energy, and chart-topping hits to fans worldwide.

Harry Potter TV series confirmed for 10-year HBO Max run with eight-episode first season

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed the upcoming Harry Potter TV series will run for a decade on HBO Max, exceeding the initially expected seven-season format based on J.K. Rowling's books. Speaking during the company's latest earnings call, Zaslav highlighted the project's long-term vision as production for Season 1 continues in and around London. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2027, Collider reported. Early promotional material has already revealed Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley as Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. The core trio will feature Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Legendary actors join the Hogwarts staff, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Janet McTeer as McGonagall, with other notable roles played by Johnny Flynn, Louise Brealey, Anton Lesser, Luke Thallon, Paul Whitehouse, and Rory Wilmot. Beyond the cast, the production team includes acclaimed Brazilian cinematographer Adriano Goldman, known for The Crown, Andor, and Jane Eyre, who will serve as lead director of photography for Season 1. Goldman confirmed the season will include eight episodes—contrary to earlier rumors of six—with him handling the first two and final two episodes. He described the season as 'monumental,' noting 18 weeks of pre-production were spent building lasting sets for Hogwarts, Privet Drive, and other iconic locations. Zaslav's decade-long commitment has fueled speculation about whether future seasons might split books into multiple parts or include original material. Goldman noted there is 'a prospect of seven seasons,' though his involvement in all remains uncertain. Filming for Season 1 is expected to last 10 months and may also cover portions of Season 2. With its 2027 premiere planned, HBO Max is positioning Harry Potter as a long-term flagship franchise.

Finneas recalls awkward Taylor Swift moment that still embarrasses him years later

Finneas O'Connell has revealed the celebrity encounter that continues to embarrass him years later — an awkward exchange with Taylor Swift at her 32nd birthday party in 2021. The 28-year-old Grammy-winning musician, best known for his work with sister Billie Eilish, spoke about the moment in a new interview with The Guardian. He recalled arriving at the party, which Swift hosted alongside Haim's Alana Haim, and accidentally saying 'Thanks for coming' to the birthday girl. 'I said 'Thanks for coming' to Taylor Swift. At her birthday party. She said, 'Thank you so much for coming,' and I said, 'Thank you for coming!'' Finneas explained. He had previously shared the story in a 2022 Instagram Q&A, noting he meant to say 'Thanks for inviting me.' The musician was promoting his work with The Favors bandmate Ashe when he revisited the anecdote, describing it as his 'most cringeworthy run-in with a celebrity.' In the same interview, Finneas revealed he is skilled at doing impressions and named Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as the reality show he would most like to join, citing fond memories of host Ty Pennington. Sharing the best advice he has received, Finneas recalled a mastering engineer telling him, 'If something ever goes wrong, you just rock out.' With ten Grammys already to his name, Finneas continues to balance high-profile collaborations with personal creative projects.
