
NTR Collector, MLA exhort residents to embrace yoga

VIJAYAWADA: NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha and Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao on Friday urged citizens to embrace yoga for better health, as part of the State government's month-long Yogandhra campaign.
They participated in a special yoga session at BRTS Road, alongside local officials. The campaign, which runs from May 21 to June 21, aims to promote yoga as a household practice for wellness across Andhra Pradesh.
Collector G Lakshmisha said the initiative is expected to reach two crore people statewide. In the NTR district alone, the goal is to train 10 to 15 lakh residents through 2,500 yoga instructors. Each village and ward secretariat will have seven trainers, with sessions designed to accommodate 50 participants.
On the occasion, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao emphasised that a healthy population is key to building a strong nation and achieving the visions of Swarnandhra and Viksit Bharat. He also praised the Prime Minister for promoting yoga globally, noting that more than 70 per cent of countries now practice it.
RDO Kavuri Chaitanya, Additional Commissioner Dr D Chandrasekhar, In-charge DMHO Dr Gopalakrishna Nayak, Chief City Planner Sanjay Ratnakumar, and other officials were present.

Regular yoga promotes healthy living

She noted that International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21st, and this year's event in Visakhapatnam will see the participation of the Prime Minister alongside approximately 5 lakh people. She emphasised that regular yoga practice promotes healthy living with renewed energy and recommended incorporating yoga and meditation into daily routines. MLA Janardhana Rao highlighted the campaign's role in showcasing yoga's excellence through daily awareness programmes throughout the district. He stressed the importance of making the upcoming International Yoga Day celebration on June 21st successful. MLA Vijay Kumar noted that yoga benefits both physical and mental health. Dr Balaji mentioned that yoga programmes are being organised extensively from tourist destinations to village levels under district administration guidance. Joint Collector R Gopala Krishna explained that as part of the Healthy Andhra Pradesh initiative, yoga rallies are being conducted at every village secretariat, mandal, and district headquarters level. Several district-level officials, department heads, public representatives, yoga practitioners, and members of the public joined together in the rally.

Minister Satya Kumar distributes medals, prizes to students
VIJAYAWADA: Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav distributed medals and prizes to meritorious students under the SHINING STARS-2025 initiative at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, Vijayawada on Monday. The programme recognised the outstanding academic achievements of SSC and Intermediate students from NTR District. Under the SSC Level, 131 students who secured more than 500 marks out of total 600 in the March 2025 exams were selected mandal-wise across OC, BC, SC, ST, and CWSN categories. The Minster attended as the chief guest and handed over the prizes and medals. At the Intermediate Level, 43 toppers from various streams (MPC, BiPC, CEC, MEC, HEC, Vocational) and social categories (OC, BC, SC, ST, Minority, PH) were felicitated. Each student received Rs 20,000 cash, a medal, and a merit certificate. NTR District proudly secured the 3rd rank in Andhra Pradesh, with 89 per cent results in 2nd year. NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha, MLAs Gadde Rammohan Rao and Yarlagadda Venkat Rao and others participated in the programme and congratulated the young achievers. The Minister has congratulated the students and wished them a grand success in their future career to get laurels to the motherland. He assured the students that the State government would also support them and suggested to the teachers to guide the students to achieve their desired goals. He said the State government was implementing various schemes to promote education in the State. Collector Lakshmisha said he was delighted to distribute the prizes and medals to the meritorious students. He praised the services of the teachers who helped in achieving the excellent results.

Transport Minister calls for wider participation in Yogandhra-2025
Minister for Transport, Youth Affairs and Sports Mandipalli Ram Prasad Reddy on Monday called on the people to actively participate in the Yogandhra-2025 initiative and make it a grand success. The yoga campaign organised at Boyakonda Gangamma temple premises in Chowdepalle on Monday (June 9) saw the participation of District Collector Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police Manikantha Chandolu, and the district in-charge Minister. The yoga camp commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by the participants performing yoga asanas under the guidance of yoga masters. Highlighting that yoga has elevated India's global stature, Mr. Ramprasad Reddy said that the Yogandhra-2025 celebrations will conclude with a record-breaking mass yoga event at Ramakrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam on June 21. With an estimated participation of five lakh people, this event will be entering the Guinness World Record, he added. The Collector said that more than 5,000 yoga master trainers were deployed across the district to ensure seven yoga sessions per village secretariat. He highlighted yoga's role in combating stress and managing ailments like hypertension, diabetes, and other disorders. SP Manikantha Chandolu said that practicing yoga daily can boost one's immunity and overall health, while adding that even 30 minutes of yoga could do miracles.
