Man allegedly robs store after asking for job application
ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) — A man accused of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint after initially requesting a job application is now behind bars.
Elyria police responded to the Convenient Food Mart at 8703 West Ridge Road just before 7 a.m. Monday on reports of an armed robbery.

An employee told officers that a man walked into the business and requested a job application. After a brief conversation, the man pulled out a gun and demanded money. The employee complied and the suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money, according to a press release from police.
Surveillance video and witness accounts helped officers develop a description of the suspect and the direction in which he fled.
A Lorain County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit tracking the suspect led officers to the area of 130 Ridge Circle where 'additional evidence indicated the suspect had entered an apartment.'
Franklin County man arrested over allegations of grooming preschooler
After being given consent to search the residence, officers encountered multiple individuals including 35-year-old Christopher Morris, of Elyria, who was identified as the suspect.
Police recovered multiple items including clothing that matched what was worn during the robbery, currency consistent with the amount stolen from the store, and a Glock-style pellet gun believed to have been used during the offense, police said.
Morris was taken into custody and is facing an aggravated robbery charge.

What they're saying On Friday night, one of the suspect's relatives spoke to FOX 2, in disbelief. She says there is no way her grandson would ever be involved in something like this because he has a child of his own and would be throwing his life away to prison. But the Oakland County Sheriff's Office says they uncovered a plot that they link directly to Jamarion Hardiman and another man all thanks to a tip a witness saw on Snapchat. "I think it's crazy. I really do," said Lavonda Newburn. Newburn finds it hard to believe her grandson, 20-year-old Jamarion Hardiman would be wanted for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a Pontiac high school graduation, but that's exactly why Oakland County law enforcement says they took him into custody. "He knows that's prison time," she said. "Anybody know that. He's only 20. He ain't trying to throw away his life. And that's what he would be doing if he was doing a massive (sic) shooting." Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard announced Hardiman's arrest hours after making a plea for him to surrender. A 19-year-old was also nabbed. Deputies originally got to the scene for a fight when a witness told them about a message on Snapchat said to include a threat to open fire on the ceremony. "I believe that probably prevented a mass shooting when you consider the weapons that were there," Bouchard said. "The individuals that were involved who had a history of being involved with weapons." Dig deeper Law enforcement worked with staff security at the event and said they found evidence pointing to the suspects placing these guns under vehicles, including a black and pink firearm and a Glock both set with 80 rounds between them. FOX 2: "The investigators are saying this was a foiled mass attack." "Oh that's crazy. Because there was no shooting at all," Newburn said. "They had no shooting in there. I saw the whole video. I was up there and I still ain't seen no shooting happen yet." FOX 2: "What kind of guy is he? What kind of person is he? "Well he just likes to play basketball and run around with a couple friends," she said. "He don't have a lot of friends. " Newburn says that Hardiman doesn't have a gun and doesn't know of any circumstance that could lead to this. "I don't know. That I can't answer, but I know he didn't have a gun, so, and I don't know about who was with him," she said. "I don't know that person or none of that. " Sheriff Bouchard says neither suspect is enrolled at the school and the motive is not clear. Lavonda Newburn says she stands behind her grandson. "I talk to my grandson every day," she said. "Every day. My daughter has four kids. I talk to all of them every day." FOX 2: "And he never said anything that would indicate a problem or a concern ? "No. But I do know the boys jumped on him," she said. "I don't know who had a gun but they was just all fighting. Not shooting at each other, so I don't know where the massive shooting come from or none of that." Bouchard says Hardiman is on probation for a weapons charge and has a criminal history involving violence. FOX 2 asked what the motive may have been but Sheriff Bouchard only said people are quick to violence these days. He also said he supports criminal justice reform for non-violent offenders but believes the system needs to do a better job of holding people connected to violent crime responsible. Hillsborough County deputies make arrests in shooting that injured teen
The Brief Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have made arrests in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. Detectives said they found evidence connected to the shooting inside a bedroom belonging to a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. A 38-year-old man was also arrested for driving with a suspended license when deputies said they found him driving the vehicle linked to the suspected shooter. PROGRESS VILLAGE, Fla. - Two teenage felons have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. The backstory According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the area of South 81st Street and Fir Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When they pulled the vehicle over, deputies said the driver, Antonio House, 38, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. Dig deeper A search warrant was executed where House was staying and that's where deputies said they recovered multiple guns. According to HCSO, a Glock .40 caliber handgun recovered from inside the home was ballistically matched to the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. The HCSO Firearms Laboratory conducted the analysis and confirmed the connection between the gun and the crime scene. Both were taken into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. House was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery great bodily harm or deadly weapon firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. What they're saying "We will not allow our neighborhoods to become places of violence," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This kind of behavior has no place in our community. We remain committed to protecting our residents and ensuring that violent offenders are held fully accountable." California gun control bill that could ban popular Glock pistol sales moves forward
( — A bill that could ban the sale of the most popular handgun in the U.S. is potentially on its way to becoming law after it passed through the California State Assembly on Tuesday. Assembly Bill 1127, also referred to by many people as the Glock Ban Bill, was authored by Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and would prohibit licensed firearms dealers from selling guns that can be 'easily converted by hand or with common household tools' into a machine gun. Although the Glock isn't specifically mentioned in the written legislation, it falls into that category of firearms. New gun laws won't be enforced by Sutter County Sheriff's Office 'I am pleased to be presenting AB 1127, which will protect communities from mass shootings and gun violence by encouraging gun manufacturers to prevent the conversion of their firearms to dangerous automatic weapons,' Gabriel said during an Assembly Standing Committee hearing. He continued, 'Automatic weapons are exceptionally lethal and capable of firing hundreds of rounds per minute. They are illegal in California. Unfortunately, some semi-automatic firearms feature a dangerous design flaw that allows them to be converted to fully automatic weapons through an attachment of a cheap and easy-to-use device, known as a switch.' In 2022, a converted Glock was reportedly used in a mass shooting that occurred just blocks from the California State Capitol Building. It left six people dead and several others injured. 'Sadly, certain companies in the gun industry have known about this issue for decades and have done nothing meaningful to address it,' Gabriel said. 'This common-sense legislation will ensure that the gun industry is held accountable and that we're doing everything we possibly can to protect our communities from mass shootings.' AB 1127 is supported by organizations like Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and Voices for Progress. However, other groups such as the National Association for Gun Rights and Gun Owners of California Inc. are in opposition. 'AB 1127 is a blatant attack on your right to own one of the most common self-defense firearms in America,' Gun Owners of California said on social media before the bill passed through the Assembly. 'This bill targets semiautomatic pistols used by millions of law-abiding gun owners—and it's being pushed under the false pretense of 'safety'.' NAGR vowed to fight back against the proposed legislation. 'California (is) pushing rapidly towards a total ban of Glock pistols,' NAGR said on social media. 'The most popular firearm in the country.
