Alpha can capture opening day glory at Killarney

Alpha Capture has a style of running which always demands a little luck in running and while the Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old is running at a track with similar demands, he makes plenty of appeal in the TXODDS Handicap, the fourth race on the opening day of Killarney's five-day July festival.
An ex-Willie Haggas-trained gelding, he made a promising start for Mullins, winning once for new connections, at this venue, from just four outings, and being a shade unlucky on another.
Early last month, he made his first start in ten 10 months and once again he could be counted as unlucky as he ran into a cul-de-sac before getting out and flying home to finish a close second to Tachos.
That run ought to have brought him forward quite a bit and, given his style of running, with no great concern about the high draw, he can take this en route to a likely run or two at Galway's summer festival.
In recent seasons, we've come to expect the quality of the juvenile maidens at this track to be very high and the festival opener, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, looks certain to live up to expectation. Aidan O'Brien's Benevuto Cellini has got to be the pick, though Ipanema Beach has decent form in the book and there are also some interesting newcomers in the field.
The selection was quite well touted prior to his debut and while he gave best to another well-regarded stablemate, Dorset, it could be argued he emerged as the brightest prospect in the race. Prominent from quite an early stage, he was the only one to make a race of it with the winner, who had the benefit of previous experience.
With the experience and the benefit of a decent draw, he should be in the van from the outset and can see off his seven rivals.
Debutants Bond, Limestone, Hardy Warrior and his own stablemate, Endorsement, are worth noting in the betting, but Ipanema Beach has run to a good level on all three starts and ought to present the greatest danger.
Joseph O'Brien's Defiantly ran a race full of promise when a fast-finishing third to two experienced sorts and he can build on that with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden, Sigliosa and Edge Of Seventeen can fill the frame.
Defiantly's stablemate, Beautiful Affair, was unlucky in running last time out, at Tipperary, can make amends in the SIS Supporting Irish Racing Handicap.
Downpatrick hosts the first of two days of action, and Willie Mullins can take the second race with Full Confession, while Edward O'Grady's Betty Dutton can earn reward for her consistency by taking the C. Russell Auto Sales Beginners' Chase.

Australia v British and Irish Lions second Test: All you need to know

Australia host the Lions in the second Test on Saturday with the series on the line. It's simply win or bust for the Wallabies after last weekend's underwhelming 27-19 defeat in Brisbane. The famed MCG is the scene and a crowd of around 90,000 is expected. A win for Andy Farrell's men will clinch a first Lions series win since 2013. Find out all you need to know here. ONLINE There will be a live blog on and the RTÉ News app, as well as match report, reaction and player ratings. TV Australia v British and Irish Lions will be shown on Sky Sports with kick-off at 11am Irish time. WEATHER There was a severe weather warning for Melbourne on Friday afternoon to evening, and rain is predicted for Saturday 8pm (local) kick-off. Temperature around 11C. Listen to the RTÉ Rugby podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. While last weekend's scoreline looked close on paper, the Lions held the Wallabies at arm's length throughout the game, and it was only when the contest was over that the Aussies did some damage. Neither side will read too much into that but Andy Farrell will demand an 80-minute performance this time around. There's more heft in the Aussie pack with the addition of Rob Valetini, Will Skelton and David Porecki and the hope for Joe Schmidt is that they provide more front-foot ball for the backs to work off. They were distinctly second-best last week across all areas, on and off the ball, and achieving something like parity up front will be crucial to their cause. It's set for a wet evening in Melbourne so expect a lot of kicking and aerial battles. The Lions have made three changes to the team with Bundee Aki coming in for Sione Tuipulotu, Andrew Porter replacing Ellis Genge and Ollie Chessum in for the injured Joe McCarthy. Garry Ringrose was originally selected but withdrew after self-reporting concussion symptoms. Still, there are a record nine Ireland internationals in the starting team, with Dan Sheehan, Tadhg Furlong, Tadhg Beirne, Jack Conan, Jamison Gibson-Park, James Lowe and Hugo Keenan all retaining their places. Maro Itoje captains from the second row and Finn Russell will run the operation from out-half. Rónan Kelleher and James Ryan are on the bench, alongside Owen Farrell and Blair Kinghorn who didn't make the squad last weekend. For the home side, in come forwards Valetini, Skelton and Porecki with Schmidt also making three changes. This is the 25th meeting of the teams, with the Lions winning 18 and losing six. The tourists, ten-point favourites for this game, have won seven series and lost two. British and Irish Lions: Hugo Keenan; Tommy Freeman, Huw Jones, Bundee Aki, James Lowe; Finn Russell, Jamison Gibson-Park; Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Tadhg Furlong; Maro Itoje, Ollie Chessum; Tadhg Beirne, Tom Curry, Jack Conan. Replacements: Rónan Kelleher, Ellis Genge, Will Stuart, James Ryan, Jac Morgan, Alex Mitchell, Owen Farrell, Blair Kinghorn. Australia: Tom Wright; Max Jorgensen, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Len Ikitau, Harry Potter; Tom Lynagh, Jake Gordon; James Slipper, David Porecki, Allan Alaalatoa; Nick Frost, Will Skelton; Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight, Harry Wilson. Replacements: Billy Pollard, Angus Bell, Tom Robertson, Jeremy Williams, Langi Gleeson, Carlo Tizzano, Tate McDermott, Ben Donaldson. OFFICIALS Assistant Referee 1: Nika Amashukeli (Geo) Assistant Referee 2: Ben O'Keeffe (NZ) TMO: Eric Gauzins (Fra) WHAT THEY SAID Joe Schmidt (Australia head coach): "We don't have the intention this week of being submissive. It'd be special for this group [to win]. I think it would accelerate a little bit of their growth as well, because in terms of gaining confidence, it's hard to top competing with the best." Andy Farrell (Lions head coach): "We certainly feel we left a few things out there [last weekend], most aspects of our game will need to better but it is proving to ourselves it can be better as well. Doing things properly, that is what we have talked about all week."

Kerry vs Donegal: Start time, FREE live stream, TV channel for huge GAA All-Ireland football final

ALL eyes will be on Croke Park once again THIS SUNDAY as Kerry face Donegal in a mouthwatering GAA All-Ireland football final! Kerry are the most successful Gaelic football team in the 2 Kerry are hoping to secure a mammoth 39th title Credit: Sportsfile 2 While Donegal look to clinch their first football triumph since 2012 Credit: Sportsfile And the Irish giants are appearing in their third final in four years after beating Tyrone 1-20 to 0-17 in a thrilling semi-final clash. But you could argue that opponents Donegal will be hungrier to win the championship, as their only two title wins were way back in 1992 and 2012. Furthermore, Jim McGuinness' side should have the wind in their sails following a stunning 3-26 to 0-15 semis triumph over Meath. However, Joe Brolly believes Donegal Read more on GAA football When is the GAA All-Ireland football final? The GAA All-Ireland football final between Kerry and Donegal will take place on Saturday, July 27. It is scheduled to get underway at 3.30pm BST / 10.30am ET. Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland is the chosen venue for this iconic match and it can host a whopping 82,300 fans. Armagh won their second title, with a 1–11 to 0–13 win against Galway in the 2024 final. How to watch the GAA All-Ireland football final for FREE The GAA All-Ireland football final will be broadcast LIVE on BBC Two Northern Ireland. Fans can stream the entire action for FREE on BBC iPlayer. It will also be shown on RTE One - instead of the usual RTE Two - in Ireland because of the Women's Euro 2025 final between England and Spain. Coverage is expected to get underway from 2:15pm BST - one hour and 15 minutes before the throw-in. Fans in the US can watch the match through the GAA+ stream or website. Alternatively, SunSport will have coverage of the entire action through our live blog. Who will be the referee? The GAA has announced that Brendan Cawley will officiate this year's All-Ireland football final between Kerry and Donegal. It'll be the Kildare native's first time refereeing Gaelic football's showpiece occasion. Most read in GAA Football The Sarsfields clubman has been on the inter-county officiating circuit since 2019 and is a widely respected figure across the game. His line umpires on the day will be Monaghan's Martin McNally and David Coldrick of Meath, with McNally also set to serve as the standby referee. What kits will be worn? Kerry are set to wear their alternative blue kit in order to avoid a colour clash in this year's All-Ireland football final. Common sense seemed to be ignored for Donegal's semi-final triumph over Meath when both teams lined out in their traditional green and yellow colours. It is the referee's call whether a colour clash is significant enough that one or both of the teams is compelled to wear one of their alternative strips. Ultimately, Paul Faloon did not deem that a necessary step to take. And in fairness many viewers expressed that they had little to no issue distinguishing Donegal players from Kerry counterparts. But it was a problem for some portions of the TV as well as Croke Park audience.

SOL CAMPBELL claims Viktor Gyokeres' arrival might not be enough to turn Arsenal into champions. 3 Arsenal have been working on bringing in striker Viktor Gyokeres for weeks Credit: Getty 3 Arsenal legend Sol Campbell thinks his arrival still might not be enough Credit: Getty Ex-England defender Arteta lifted the FA Cup in his first season in charge five years ago and has led them to runners-up spot in the top-flight for three consecutive seasons. Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Christian Norgaard are already on board and Many believe this could be Arteta's year - though Campbell, speaking exclusively to The Sun via betting site READ MORE ARSENAL He said: 'You need two strikers to trouble other teams. You can't always rely on just one striker as if he gets injured, the team's performance drops. 'So it's important to have a main one and have another really good backup. Sometimes they can play together, sometimes one's on the bench and the other comes on. It can be good to get a slightly older one who's been there, seen it, and done it, and can come on when you need something to happen for 20 minutes, but they're top, top quality. 'If you pick the second striker properly, they can come on to make a difference. That's something you have to do. So if they do get two strikers, they could definitely become champions. 'That's the type of player who has been missing, somebody who has scored 20-25 goals just in the league. It's okay to say, 'he's got all of these goals in all of these competitions,' but that's not good enough; that's not going to win you the Premier League. You need goals to get you over the line and make up point differences.' Most read in Football BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Campbell also backed Arteta to eventually 'get his moment' and lead the Gunners back to glory. He said: 'Deep down, the players want to win for him. He's desperate to win something. He's doing everything in his power to get that right mentality and that right set of players. He's probably thinking now, 'we've got one chance to do it'. This is the year he'll feel like he's got the right materials and the right players. Declan Rice and the Arsenal squad thank fans for coming out at Singapore match 'He'll get his moment, but when those moments come, he needs the players on the pitch to do the job, whether that's a big save or a big goal in a big game. 'Arteta wants to win something. He knows this team needs to win something. If you get the right centre forward and get everything clicking together, Arsenal have a great chance. 'Every time a player is on the pitch, he has to play his best. You have to be up for it, and he's getting that team together. He's doing the right things and creating the right environment to win.' Campbell is also delighted to see Arsenal getting their transfer business done early. He added: 'It's so important to get the players that you want in. They get a good pre-season and a good month to settle in, and you really start to form that mentality. 'That's when you begin to think - we've got a good squad here, we've got a chance, if you give us the chance, we're going to take it. 'If you've got the right mentality and the right chemistry in the team, they will keep going and want to win. 'The truth is, if you haven't won anything, it's going to be hard to win your first one. Really hard. If you haven't won it, how do you build that confidence to win? Sometimes you need winners. Sometimes you might need to buy a couple of winners. Even a player who's won something in another country. They know what it takes to be a winner.' 3
