Controversial and Terrifying New Movie Hits #3 on Netflix—and the Trailer Alone Is Giving Me Nightmares
Enter: Shark Whisperer, a 90-minute doc from the Academy Award–winning director of My Octopus Teacher that dives (literally) into the murky waters of marine conservation, where science, social media and spectacle collide.
Courtesy of Netflix
At the heart of the film is Ocean Ramsey—a marine biologist, conservationist and viral sensation known for swimming cage-free with massive sharks. Her up-close encounters have sparked global fascination, racked up millions of views… and drawn plenty of criticism. While her fans see her as a fearless advocate giving a voice to misunderstood predators, others, including scientists, say she's putting herself, others and the animals at risk for the sake of clicks, according to Netflix's Tudum. Some even argue she's blurring the line between activism and self-promotion.
The doc leans into the controversy, featuring interviews with marine biologists, Indigenous knowledge holders and fellow conservationists—both supportive and skeptical. Add in the absolutely stunning underwater cinematography and you've got a film that's as thought-provoking as it is pulse-pounding.
Still, the trailer alone gave me anxiety. Ocean can be seen casually swimming next to enormous sharks while calmly narrating, 'I'm not a crazy person… I'm hyper aware of what they're capable of.' Then comes the kicker: a 20-foot shark approaches the surface as she whispers, 'Oh my God.'
Same. Honestly, same.
Assuming the film doesn't end in tragedy (because let's face it, we'd definitely have heard by now), I may just work up the courage to hit play.
Shark Whisperer is streaming now on Netflix.

Seann William Scott Takes on Dirty Cops and Tennessee Meth in Trailer for Action Comedy BAD MAN — GeekTyrant
The trailer for Bad Man has been released, giving us a wild first look at Seann William Scott's latest role as a small-town deputy caught in the middle of a twisted backwoods drug war. Directed by Michael Diliberti, who makes his feature debut after co-writing 30 Minutes or Less , this offbeat action comedy is set in the meth-riddled town of Colt Lake, Tennessee. Scott plays Deputy Sam Evans, a washed-up hometown hero who's become a bit of a joke around town. When murder hits close to home, Evans is put on the case, but his investigation is hijacked by the arrival of Rob Riggle's Bobby Gaines, an undercover narc tasked with cleaning up the streets. Gaines is immediately hailed as a hero by the townsfolk, but as Evans starts digging, it becomes clear something shady is going on. Bad Man leans into its strange Southern noir energy, and the trailer teases an off-kilter tone that's more weird than witty, but in a way that might just work. With Chance Perdomo and Johnny Simmons also along for the ride, the film looks like a mix of quirky character drama and chaotic backwoods violence. Bad Man will hit VOD in the UK on September 15, 2025, via Vertigo Releasing. No US release yet.

Emily Blunt Rocks Character's Signature Red Hair on ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2' Set
Emily Blunt is channeling her inner Emily Charlton on the The Devil Wears Prada 2 set. Blunt, 42, turned heads in New York City on Tuesday, July 29, when she was spotted filming the upcoming movie while sporting a revived red hairstyle. On set, Blunt rocked a black-and-white outfit with a pair of sunglasses and the character's signature red locks. Blunt costars Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep have also been spotted shooting scenes for the long-awaited sequel to 2006's The Devil Wears Prada. The cast starred in the original film, which centered around Hathaway's Andy Sachs, who was hired as an assistant to fashion editor Miranda Priestly (Streep). The movie also featured Blunt as an assistant, Stanley Tucci as an art director and Adrian Grenier as Sachs' less-than-supportive boyfriend. While Blunt gushed on The View in November 2022 that she would be part of a second movie 'in a heartbeat,' she seemingly changed her mind two years later. In February 2024, Blunt claimed that there had 'never' been much movement about creating a second film and noted that the cast is 'good' with the first movie. 'Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it's OK,' Blunt explained during an appearance on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast at the time. 'And I think — didn't Meryl say something funny about it? They asked her about it, 'Would she ever do a sequel?' and she went, 'Yeah, if I don't have to lose the weight.' But I think she said 'the f***ing weight.'' Nearly two decades after the OG movie's release, news broke that Blunt, Hathaway, Streep and Tucci would be reprising their roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Grenier, however, is not returning. Emily Blunt Says There's 'Rumblings' About a 'Devil Wears Prada' Sequel: 'Stuff Churning Around' Several new faces are reportedly joining the cast in The Devil Wears Prada 2, including Kenneth Branagh as Miranda's husband. Variety reported in June that Lucy Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora, Helen J. Shen, Caleb Hearon and Simone Ashley will also make appearances. After filming for The Devil Wears Prada 2 began, Hathaway teased the sequel's fashion moments in several social media posts. 'Oh, my God. It's the first day of shooting Devil Wears Prada [2]. I brought the frames that David Frankel, our director, wore on the first Devil Wears Prada 20 years ago,' she said in a July 22 Instagram video. 'All of us on set fell in love with them, and we all got them. And, we all are back 20 years later — and we checked, and we all still have them. I brought mine as a good luck [charm] for our first day.' The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 1, 2026. Solve the daily Crossword
