'Hostage': Suranne Jones's New Netflix Thriller Series Will Fill The 'Dept Q' Hole In Your Life
A trailer just dropped for the new British thriller, which looks right up the street of Dept Q fans and also stars Julie Delpy. Unsurprisingly fans are already excited to watch.
Netflix says of the plot, written by Matt Charman (whose previous credits include Bridge of Spies and Treason): 'When the British prime minister's husband is kidnapped and the visiting French president is blackmailed, the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?'
Fans of Dr Foster and Vigil will be thrilled to see Jones in a role she usually excels in — namely unimaginable stress. Speaking about taking on the role, she told Tudum: 'I'm thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I'm really proud of,' she said. 'It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time. We'd talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect — me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.'
Charman said: 'I've been dying to find the right story to tell with Suranne and I honestly believe what she's done with this character is going to blow the Netflix audience away. An embattled British PM in the middle of a fight for her country and her family — she's fierce, ruthless, and you can't take your eyes off of her.'

The reviews on "Happy Gilmore 2" are mixed. The results are not. The sequel to Adam Sandler's 1996 comedy hit Netflix on July 25 and the numbers don't lie. According to Variety, 46.7 million viewers streamed the movie in just three days — making it the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history. It also hit a high-water mark for Sandler, who has been a key cog for the platform. The movie brings back Sandler in the lead role. Co-stars Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are back to reprise their roles as Virginia Venit, a PGA Tour publicist-turned romantic interest for Happy, and cocky pro golfer Shooter McGavin, respectively. The film includes a ton of pro golfers making cameos as well, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris from the PGA Tour, as well as Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka from LIV Golf. Legends of the game make appearances, too, such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and John Daly. When asked, McDonald said he loved meeting many of the players, but one two-time Masters champ stood out. "He's a good man, Bubba Watson. I have known a few of these golf legends and legends-in-training," McDonald said. "But seeing them one-on-one, it's like: 'Oh, my God, that's Rory McIlroy. That's Bryson DeChambeau. That's Scottie Scheffler.' It was mind-blowing for me. And I came in on my days off just to hang out with them." Nelly Korda, Charley Hull enjoyed filming Happy Gilmore 2 but Hull 'couldn't be an actress'
Charley Hull was born about a month after the original "Happy Gilmore" movie came out in 1996. Nelly Korda, who turned 27 on Monday, is two years younger than Hull. Both joined a host of golf stars – including fellow No. 1 Scottie Scheffler – in the comedy hit's sequel, which brings back Adam Sandler in the lead role. "Happy Gilmore 2" was released on Netflix July 25 and, according to Variety, 46.7 million viewers streamed the movie in just three days — making it the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history. Korda said she planned to watch the movie sometime this week while she's competing at the AIG Women's British Open in Wales. "It was so cool getting to meet Adam Sandler, getting to be part of that process, and actually seeing how difficult acting is from that point of view," said Korda. "That scene with Shooter was amazing to see just from my point of view, his acting, and how much it takes. "That scene took all day. It was like a 20-second scene. The appreciation for their lifestyle and their job definitely grew for me. For me, it was just so cool to be a part of, and getting to do it with Nancy (Lopez) is a lot of fun too." England's Charley Hull said the filming process was also long but "good fun." "Never thought I'd be in a movie, but there you go," she said. "Definitely safe to say I couldn't be an actress. Just filming that scene all day, I haven't got the patience."
