Hyderabad police denies permission for ‘Telangana March' at Tank Bund
Hyderabad city police have denied permission to the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) for its proposed 'Telangana March' at Tank Bund, originally planned for Saturday, April 26. The protest was aimed at demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Act.
According to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), the decision was taken due to anticipated traffic disruptions in central parts of the city. Police also cited a lack of clarity from organisers on the estimated turnout, which added to concerns about crowd control.
'We anticipated a much larger gathering than what was conveyed. We didn't want the situation to spiral beyond control,' said a source from city police. The march had received support from multiple organisations aligned with the JAC's cause.

MMK rally, conference to stress adequate political representation for minorities
Papanasam MLA and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president M.H. Jawahirullah on Wednesday said that the party is organising a rally followed by a conference in Madurai on July 6 emphasising the need for adequate political representation for the minorities and to repeal the Waqf Amendment Act. Addressing mediapersons in Madurai during a party meeting, he said as of June 2025, out of the 776 seats of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, only 39 of them were Muslims, 24 in Lok Sabha and 15 in Rajya Sabha which is 4.42% in Lok Sabha and 6.4% in Rajya Sabha, he said, adding there was no adequate political representation for Muslims. In the State Assemblies it was the same. There were a total of 4,123 MLAs across India. Out of this only 296 were Muslims. This was 7.18 %. Even in those States which had a sizable population of Muslims, there was no adequate representation, he said. In Tamil Nadu Assembly there were a total of 234 seats. However, there were only 7 Muslim MLAs. Even in local bodies, the number of Muslim representatives had reduced, he said. There were only 4 Muslim ward councillors in Greater Chennai Corporation, he said, adding the situation was similar in Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai and Tirunelveli Corporations.. He said the political parties were not giving priority to the minorities which they should. He said the Waqf Amendment Act should be repealed. Section 40 of the Waqf Act authorises the Waqf Board to decide whether a property was Waqf property. However, the amendment to the Act took away this right. Waqf Board CEO should be a Muslim. Even this was removed by the amendment, he said. MMK has planned to conduct a rally and a conference in Madurai stressing the need for adequate political representation for the minorities and to repeal the Waqf Amendment Act. Thousands of people are expected to participate and voice their support, he said. Answering queries on the alliance with DMK, Mr. Jawahirullah said they were in a political alliance that opposed fascism and DMK alliance opposed BJP's ideology. To a query on Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticising DMK government for not fulfilling its poll promises, Mr. Jawahirullah said Mr. Shah had no right to criticise DMK government and the government was implementing various welfare schemes for the benefit of the people. To a query on TVK, he said BJP was operating TVK Chief Vijay.
