"Congress did more for Bengaluru's development than any other party": Karnataka Dy CM Shivakumar
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 1 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Sunday that Rs 1 lakh worth of projects have been planned for the development of Bengaluru city, while stating that the 'Congress party had done more for Bengaluru's development than other parties.'
Shivakumar was speaking at a meeting of Dasarahalli Assembly constituency leaders and workers, where he highlighted the developmental plan for the country's tech capital.
'Bengaluru city's population has grown from 70 lakh to 1.5 crore in the last 20 years, and hence we have formulated projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore for the development of the city. It was not the BJP that built the flyover on Tumkur Road, Airport Road, Hosur Road and Kolar Road. It was the Manmohan Singh government that granted these projects,' Shivakumar said.
'We have formed the Greater Bengaluru Authority to cater to the needs of the growing city. After a meeting with the MLAs and ministers, we will decide the number of corporations. We will hold elections once the corporations are formed,' he added.
Talking about the promise of delivering on the guarantee schemes, an election promise of the party, Shivakumar added, 'When I took oath as the KPCC President, I had said that the Congress party will come to power if the youth and women of the state make up their mind. We came to power, and we decided to repay their debt through five guarantee schemes. Our government has delivered as promised.'
Hitting out at the BJP, Shivakumar said that the opposing party is 'about more noise and little action.'
'The BJP was in power in the state before us for 4 years, yet never came up with any schemes like guarantee schemes. BJP is about more noise and little action. Our candidate Manjanna had lost the election here, yet he has got e-khatha done for 8,000 families,' he said.
Earlier today, Shivakumar also highlighted the Express Link Canal project, saying that the project would continue despite protests.
He said that 40 per cent of the work had already been completed, and there was no reason to halt the project at this stage.
He said, 'Forty per cent of the work of the Express Link Canal project has been completed. In this situation, there is no reason to stop the work,' Shivakumar told reporters at Vidhana Soudha while addressing concerns over the Hemavati Link Canal project.' (ANI)

RAVI VARMA (27), the Thane resident arrested last week by the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly providing sensitive information to a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO), had put his company's name and phone number on his social media profile, making him an easy target of enemy spies, officials said. Varma, who was honey-trapped by the PIO posing as a college student from Punjab, worked for a defence firm contracted by the Indian Navy. Initially, the PIO contacted him on messenger through fake accounts but he blocked them. The Pakistani agent then contacted him directly on WhatsApp as his mobile number too was mentioned on his profile, an official said, adding that those working in sensitive sectors should not mention personal details on their social media accounts as PIOs actively seek such information online. Giving details of how he was honey-trapped, the official said initially the PIO posed as a girl, identifying herself as 'Preety', a student of Panjab University, and contacted him on Facebook messenger. She said she had a college project related to construction of a ship and needed his help. He blocked her. She then contacted him from another account identifying herself as 'Ashpreet'. She requested him to help her or she would fail. Eventually, she called him on WhatsApp and, over a period of time, he allegedly sent her photographs of maps of ships that he drew after visiting restricted areas in Mumbai port. He also chatted with one of her 'professors' whom he addressed as 'Sir'. 'She also gave him around Rs 15,000 to purchase things for his sister's children. In fact, his sister had a fight with the woman, asking her to leave her brother. However, by then he was smitten by her and had passed on enough sensitive details,' the official said. The official said the private defence company in Navi Mumbai for which he worked, the terms and conditions specifically mentions that employees are not meant to share sensitive information they have access to because of the nature of their job. The accused was produced before the Thane court on Monday and his custody extended.

AMC moves to cancel land allotment to GST dept
SLUG: NON PAYMENT OF DUES Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) moved a proposal to cancel the allotment of a 6,495 sq m plot in Gota ward to the Gujarat govt's GST department for constructing the office of the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax. However, the proposal to revoke the allotment was moved because the GST department found the plot too expensive and did not make the payment for it for over a year. Subsequently, the AMC sought the standing committee's approval to revoke the allocation. The Standing Committee will review the cancellation proposal on June 5. In Jan 2024, the AMC standing committee approved the allocation of the commercial plot (final plot 172, TP Scheme 32) in Gota ward at Rs 1.61 lakh per sq m. Despite receiving notification, the GST department failed to pay Rs 104.56 crore for the land. In a separate matter, the standing committee approved on July 8, 2010, the allocation of a 1,945 sq m plot (final plot 617, TP Scheme 29) in Narayanpura to the Deendayal Port Authority for a guest house. Although the port paid Rs 2.72 crore, no construction commenced. The plot's current valuation ranges between Rs 35 to 40 crore. The port trust now wishes to surrender the plot, prompting a cancellation proposal to the AMC standing committee. Furthermore, the AMC transferred 20,958 sq m of service road land to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) a year ago. In Dec 2024, the AUDA Land Price and Fixing Committee established a rate of Rs 1 lakh per sq m. The civic body will collect Rs 209.58 crore for this land transfer, marking the largest such payment from the NHAI. The estate department will issue a demand notice, and a related proposal will be presented to the AMC Standing Committee.

Govt institute razed to enhance Silsako Beel retention capacity
1 2 3 4 5 6 Guwahati: In its efforts to expand the water retention capacity of Silsako beel, a protected wetland of the city, Assam govt on Tuesday demolished another govt institute. Housing and urban affairs minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) chairman Narayan Deka arrived in the Chachal area to give the go-ahead for the demolition of Institute of Cooperative Management, which was inaugurated in 2007. The institute was built on a five-bigha land. The minister, while speaking to media said, "Earlier the Silsako area was under encroachment, which has been cleared. Families who were genuine residents have been compensated. Currently, few govt institutions that were allotted land here earlier, are being shifted." He added that govt has already allocated a plot to the institute in the Sonapur area. "However for temporary use, a space has been provided in the Rehabari area, along with a compensatory amount of Rs 10 crore. Similarly, we will also be carrying out the demolition of a hotel management institute later this month, followed shortly by the demolition of the All Assam Tennis Association court and the Ginger hotel, as part of the wetland expansion project," he added. Mallabaruah said once the remaining establishments are relocated, the planned reservoir will cover nearly 800 bighas of land. "We are fast-tracking the process, the institutions will be moved first, and excavation will follow during the dry season," he added. Emphasising the importance of this wetland in tackling the city's waterlogging problem, he expressed confidence that once the reservoir is restored, a significant volume of floodwater will be diverted here, mitigating the flooding month, the government had demolished the government funded Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development, which was also established in 2007. According to the GMDA report, the wetland will be excavated to restore a water holding capacity of 3.5 million cubic meters. Silsako beel is a natural wetland, notified under the Guwahati Waterbodies (Preservation and Conservation) Act. According to the 2021, report large-scale encroachments had reduced the beel from 450 acres to 80 acres. A GMDA official said that the government over the years has succeeded in restoring 270 acres of the beel.
