It's been almost a month since Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles during the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The Boston Celtics star will be sidelined indefinitely and may not play during the 2025-26 season.

This is the first serious injury Tatum has ever suffered in his eight-year NBA career. An Achilles tear could drastically alter his career, but the only way the Celtics will know for sure is to see how he looks when he returns.
On Saturday, Tatum sent his first message since getting hurt. He posted an update on his recovery via his X account, where he wrote, "Day 25… days starting to get a little easier."

Tatum has a long way to go with his recovery, but it sounds like he's starting to adjust to it. While Tatum is still in the beginning stages of his recovery, the Celtics sent an eight-word response to his update. The team's official X account quote-tweeted Tatum's update with this in response:

"The comeback will be greater than the setback," the team wrote with a flex and hourglass emoji.
The Celtics haven't had a star miss an entire season since Gordon Hayward broke his leg and dislocated ankle on opening night in 2017. Boston has made no such designation on Tatum for the upcoming season, but it's possible that he will miss the year.
After Hayward suffered his injury, he managed to return to good form, though it took two years for him to do it. Even then, he never made another All-Star team. Tatum's career has reached heights Hayward's never did, so if he gets most of his mojo back, he may still be one of the NBA's best players.
