Scotland round off tour with seven-try win over Samoa
Seven Scotland players notched tries at Eden Park in Auckland as Gregor Townsend's side finished their season on a high.
The tourists were looking to make amends for a 29-14 defeat by Fiji last weekend which was littered with poor discipline and responded with a second win in New Zealand after beating the Maori All Blacks in the opening match.
Ewan Ashman, Rory Hutchinson, Arron Reed, Kyle Steyn, Grant Gilchrist, Kyle Rowe and George Turner all crossed. Fergus Burke added two conversions – most of his attempts came from out wide – before George Horne kicked two points late on after Turner's try.
Scotland were quickly into their stride and Ashman forced the ball over the line after an eighth-minute lineout maul to open the scoring.
They kept up the pressure and Hutchinson doubled the lead five minutes later after latching on to a penetrating short kick from fellow midfielder Stafford McDowall.
Samoa responded with some territory but Jamie Dobie put in a good saving tackle and Scotland largely kept their opponents at bay.
Just like their second try, Scotland capitalised on a scrum deep in Samoan territory to extend their lead in the 31st minute. Dobie's long pass found Reed on the left wing and he made no mistake in the corner.
The Scots produced an impressive switch of play to get their fourth try five minutes later. The ball was swiftly worked out to Steyn on the right wing after a lineout on the left-hand touchline to put the tourists 22-0 up at the interval.
Rowe and the impressive Dobie came close to adding to the score in the opening moments of the second half before Gilchrist capitalised on some pressure near the try line to force himself over for his second Scotland try in the 45th minute.
Horne's attempts to play out from deep backfired as he firstly put a team-mate in trouble and then lost possession as Benjamin Petaia Nee-Nee got Samoa off the mark in the 51st minute.
But Scotland were soon back on the attack and Rowe crossed in the corner four minutes later after Burke offloaded on the ground.
Duncan Paia'Aua grabbed Samoa's second try but Scotland had the final say as the power of their pack told and Turner touched down with two minutes left.

Louis Rees-Zammit has had ‘unbelievable' interest from rugby union teams
Former Wales winger Louis Rees-Zammit says he has had 'unbelievable' interest from clubs following his decision to return to rugby union. Rees-Zammit, 24, spent 18 months in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, but did not feature for either franchise in a regular-season game. The former Gloucester wing, who made 32 appearances for Wales and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2021, said he hopes to rekindle his international career. Rees-Zammit told Sky Sports News: 'I can't name teams, but I've had a load of interest, which is unbelievable. I'm very grateful for that. 'The season starts pretty soon. So it's about finding the right team for me in terms of location, in terms of how quick I've got to get into camp, and because the season's right around the corner, so all of these things that are going to happen, are going to happen pretty sharpish. 'Me and my brother are going through negotiations and seeing teams interested, which is amazing. We should find out in the next week or so.' Rees-Zammit quit rugby union in January 2024 in order to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL via its International Player Pathway Program. He signed an active roster deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2025 season after being part of their practice squad for the previous campaign and travelled to London for the games against the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots in October. Following his decision to return to the 15-man game, Rees-Zammit has targeted a return for Wales, who he helped to their last Six Nations triumph in 2021. He added: 'Playing for my country is the pinnacle and it's one that I absolutely love doing. 'I managed to play 32 times for my country in three, four years. I need to find a team. Once we find a team, get into good form and hopefully come Autumn Internationals, see where selection is. SIR CLIVE WOODWARD: Why Andy Farrell should stay on as Lions coach for New Zealand in 2029 - as he targets 3-0 whitewash aganst Australia
History beckons for the Lions and Andy Farrell as coach. Some may think the last Test with Australia is a dead rubber given the Lions are 2-0 up. Not a bit of it. A whitewash is a real possibility and history shows what an achievement that would be. It would be the first clean sweep in the professional era, the first time since 1927. It would also be the first unbeaten tour since 1974 (Willie John McBride's famous 'Invincibles' drew the final Test in South Africa). These are remarkable statistics. I'm sure they will be driving Maro Itoje as captain, the squad and Farrell. They can seal their place in Lions history. But it is very difficult — nigh-on impossible, in fact — to compare Lions tours. The level of opposition Australia have provided hasn't been the same as in other series in the past. But the Lions can't do much about that. And the way they fought back from 18 points down to win in Melbourne was hugely impressive. That comeback will be remembered for a long time. We knew Farrell was a brilliant coach but his reputation has gone to another level this summer. If the Lions win 3-0, it will go up again. Farrell has to be the leading contender to be Lions coach in New Zealand in 2029. I don't see any reason why not as he has a contract with Ireland until the 2027 World Cup so will remain involved in Northern Hemisphere rugby. I love that Farrell hasn't made massive changes for the third Test. It shows he means business and is taking this game as seriously as the first two matches, if not more so. The Lions is the pinnacle. It is no place for handing out easy Test caps. It would have devalued the Lions concept. But that is not what Farrell is about. Farrell has stuck to his guns, making only two changes with James Ryan and Blair Kinghorn coming in. His selection has been consistent all series, changes mainly due to injury. The Lions won't lack for motivation on Saturday. Conversely, I wonder if the same can be said of Australia. They put in such a huge effort in the second Test and still lost. My experience tells me it is very difficult to respond to that. The third Test will be competitive. But I expect the Lions to pull clear in the final quarter and go three from three. That would start one hell of a party and one which would be entirely deserved.
