Police arrest three people after fatal crash
Police have arrested three people in connection with a fatal crash in Leicester.
A man in his 20s died in hospital after he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz C-Class in Welford Road, near its junction with Almond Road, at about 23:30 BST on Friday, Leicestershire Police said.
The force confirmed on Monday a 50-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and released on bail.
Two women, aged 19 and 48, were also arrested for assisting an offender and were released under investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, police added
Det Sgt Mike Streer, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: "Officers are currently reviewing CCTV in the area, but it is believed the driver of the Mercedes headed out of the city along Welford Road prior to the collision.
"Anyone who was also travelling along Welford Road in either direction is asked to contact us if they think they saw the car or have captured footage of the car on dashcam."

Tony Hudgell's birth mother to be freed from prison
The birth mother of Tony Hudgell, who injured him so badly as a baby his legs had to be amputated, is to be released from prison. In 2018 Tony's birth parents Anthony Smith and Jody Simpson were sentenced to 10 years in prison. Tony was adopted by Paula and Mark Hudgell, from Kent, and has since raised millions of pounds for charity through a series of challenges. A spokesperson for the parole board confirmed a panel had directed that Simpson be released following an oral hearing. Both Simpson and Smith had denied assaulting, ill treating or neglecting their child. Mrs Hudgell posted on social media criticising the release. She said: "Tony has life long injuries every day he suffers due to her hands." In 2024, Tony, from West Malling, underwent surgery to be fitted for new prosthetics to allow him to walk without crutches. He has received the British Empire Medal for services to the prevention of child abuse. The parole board spokesperson said decisions were "solely focused on what risk a prisoner could represent to the public if released and whether that risk is manageable in the community". They added: "A panel will carefully examine a huge range of evidence, including details of the original crime, and any evidence of behaviour change, as well as explore the harm done and impact the crime has had on the victims." Hundreds of pages of evidence and reports would have been read in the lead up to an oral hearing, they said. They also said evidence from witnesses such as probation officers, psychiatrists and psychologists, officials supervising the offender in prison as well as victim personal statements may be given at the hearing. "Parole reviews are undertaken thoroughly and with extreme care. Protecting the public is our number one priority," they added. A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: "This was a horrific crime that saw Tony Hudgell mercilessly tortured by his birth parents and our thoughts remain with him and his loved ones. "Now that the independent parole board has directed her release, Jody Simpson will be subject to strict supervision and licence conditions. Gotti grandsons arrested for Queens beatdown of reputed mob associate
NEW YORK — Two grandsons of the late Gambino crime boss John Gotti were arrested and charged with assaulting a former family friend. Cops said brothers Frankie Gotti, 27, and John Gotti, 31, were arrested after assaulting Gino Gabrielli, who was accused of breaking into a home associated with one of the brothers and stealing $3,300. Gabrielli, an alleged mob associate, was arrested Sunday and charged with burglary, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after the break-in. Not satisfied with the arrest, the brothers tracked Gabrielli down to his mother's house in Howard Beach and administered a beatdown in front of his own mother, officials said. Frankie and John Gotti were arraigned before Judge Sharifa Nasser-Cullar in Queens Criminal Court early Tuesday evening. They were released on their own recognizance without bail and are scheduled to return to court Aug 7. They said nothing as they left court. In 2015, federal authorities said, Gabrielli accidentally set himself on fire while torching the Mercedes-Benz of a Queens businessman who had stopped making his annual payoffs to an irate mob captain involved in an extortion scheme. The victim's home security video system caught Gabrielli, first seen dousing the year-old car with an accelerant, fleeing the scene with his pants ablaze. Gabrielli pleaded guilty to the arson in August 2016. In 2017, John Gotti, the grandson, was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to selling oxycodone pills in New York City. At the time, his lawyer, Gerard Marrone, said his client's name was a blessing and a curse. 'His last name is what his last name is and he's always walking around with a target on his back,' Marrone said. 'It's a double-edge sword, I think sometimes the name is a cross [to bear], but sometimes I think it's a blessing. They're a beautiful family, they're very supportive of him since Day One. Knives and ivory stolen in 'targeted burglary'
Knives, ivory ornaments and a historic telescope have been stolen from a vacant house in Guernsey. Guernsey Police said the ten ivory items, several knives, a glass paperweight, two vases, and an iron field telescope had been stolen from the Castel home in a "targeted burglary". The force said it had asked local and UK militaria dealers and auction houses whether the items had been presented to them, but the items had not been traced. Officers asked anyone who had seen the items or been offered them for sale to come forward. They said the ivory pieces included two elephants, an owl, a bookmark, a pair of boots and five male figures. Also stolen were a multi-coloured paperweight, a red glass vase, a blue china vase and the telescope which is thought to originate from World War Two, they added.
