If you're going to make a dramatic return to the Cannes Film Festival, you might as well go all out.
At least, that appeared to be Amal Clooney's philosophy before she hit the red carpet for Bono's documentary premiere, Stories of Surrender.
For the occasion, she wore a glamorous off-the-shoulder black gown from John Galliano's era at Christian Dior.
The dress featured a sweetheart neckline and a dramatic train that wrapped around her, a move that quietly broke away from the Film Festival's newly instated dress code. Just ahead of this year's event, organizers made a last-minute announcement that they would be banning nudity and gowns with voluminous silhouettes, including trains.
Though the human rights lawyer was not accompanied by her husband, George Clooney, she had her show-stopping diamonds to keep her company.
Her luxurious accessories included diamond drop earrings and several silver cocktail rings, adding sparkle without overwhelming the look. She kept her essentials safely tucked away in a simple, compact black clutch that seamlessly complemented the rest of her ensemble.
As for Clooney's glam, she opted for a subtle, understated approach by pairing a nude lip with cool-toned smoky eyes.
Celebrity stylist Dimitris Giannetos was tapped in for the evening to craft her voluminous, waist-grazing brunette waves with soft, sun-kissed highlights. For an added touch of elegance, he revealed in a press release that he spritzed on the floral hair perfume Delina by Parfums de Marly. Proof that it's all in the details.

'The little kid in you reacts before the adult in you and go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and be happy.''
