This charming new Italian spot by the Continental Deli crew is now open in a old Newtown butcher
Leading the kitchen at Osteria Mucca is head chef Janina Allende, who's bringing a wealth of experience from running the kitchen at popular Pellegrino 2000 for more than two years, as well as spending time on the pans at Alberto's Lounge and Bar Vincent.
'Her vision for Mucca centres on creating honest, carefully crafted dishes that highlight regional flavours, with a deep commitment to technique, seasonal produce and knowing the origins of every ingredient,' the team has said.
Opening menu highlights include pickled vegetables with fava bean purée; gnudi with brown butter and sage; lamb tartare with rocket and pecorino; veal tongue with salsa verde; and house-made sausage. Florence's famous T-bone steak, bistecca alla Fiorentina, is also on the menu, and big enough to share between two. And we'd find it hard not to finish with a scoop (or three) of gelato.
Drinks-wise, expect wines produced by small, family-run Italian vineyards, alongside party-ready aperitivo cocktails and digestivi.
Just like all of Paisano & Daughters' venues – which also include the brand-new boutique Australia Street Suites – the design at Osteria Mucca is a knockout, thanks to co-owner and creative director Sarah Doyle. Forest-green-and-white chequered floors are complemented by vintage lighting, crisp white tablecloths and tiled walls. Walking into the light-filled space feels like taking a step back in time – it's one of the most beautiful dining rooms we've seen lately.

According to Netflix, the new season follows Emily as she navigates life in a new city as the head of Agence Grateau's Rome office. The official synopsis for the brand-new season reads: "Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. It comes after one prominent character of the Netflix show 'made the decision to step away' after five successful years. The synopsis for the new season continues: "Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities." Collins, 36, reprises her role alongside returning cast members Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Lucien Laviscount, Eugenio Franceschini, Thalia Besson, Paul Forman, Arnaud Binard, Minnie Driver, Bryan Greenberg, and Michèle Laroque. Lucas Bravo, whose character Gabriel has been central to the series since season one, had previously expressed doubts about returning. He told The Hollywood Reporter that Gabriel's decisions had caused him to feel distant from the role, saying: 'He made a few choices that made me kind of grow away from him. We were very much alike in season one, but now, I don't really know. I think I feel like he needs to get his shit together.' Despite this, Bravo is confirmed to return for season five. Season four included a storyline set in Rome, which Collins described as a refreshing change. 'It was so great to go from Paris to Rome because you're still in Europe and you're still feeling that romance and passion of Europe, but you're getting to experience a different part of history which was really fun,' she told THR during last year's premiere. The show's international filming has sparked political reactions in the past. After the Rome shoot, French President Emmanuel Macron joked he would 'fight hard' to keep the show from relocating permanently. In response, Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri told THR Roma: "Doesn't President Macron have more pressing matters to worry about? I would like to believe, at least I would like to hope, that Macron was joking, because he ought to know that a production company like Netflix does not take orders from heads of state or make decisions based on political pressure.'

Meredith Kercher's family lawyer slams Amanda Knox over new Disney murder drama
Francesco Maresca, the lawyer for the family of Meredith Kercher, has expressed his disgust at a new eight-part show dramatising the Brit student's horrific 2007 murder Meredith Kercher's family lawyer has launched a blistering broadside against Amanda Knox following the release of the American's new Disney series. The 38-year-old has executive-produced KJ Steinberg's eight-parter, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which is based closely on her memoir. Actress Grace Van Patten plays Knox in the Disney-owned Hulu series. Now, following the show's New York premiere on Tuesday, for which the American appeared on the red carpet grinning alongside Monica Lewinsky, attorney Francesco Maresca has hit out. He told the Mirror: 'The important thing is that Amanda Knox clearly wants this case to continue. It would be nice and dignified to watch a program or TV show where everything is reconstructed, remembering the life and smile of poor Meredith." Mr Maresca added: 'Instead, once again, we have to witness an attempt to reshuffle the cards, and where the trailer states, 'Amanda fights tirelessly to prove her innocence and regain her freedom'. Once again, the focus is on Knox.' When the show was first announced last year, Meredith's sister Stephanie said: 'It is difficult to understand how this serves any purpose.' At the time, Mr Maresca said Knox's projects continued to be 'inappropriate and disrespectful towards the memory of Meredith,' claiming the Perugia trial had become a vehicle for Knox to monetise her notoriety. 'Mrs Knox, after so many years, should respect the silence and memory,' he said, as filming took place in the Italian town where the 21-year-old was killed. In November 2007, Leeds University student Meredith was sexually assaulted before her throat was slashed and she was stabbed 47 times while studying in Perugia. Her flatmate Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were initially convicted of her murder along with drifter Rudy Guede. The couple were found guilty in 2009 but freed on appeal two years later. Their guilty verdict was reinstated in 2014 but quashed by Italy's top court in March 2015. Mum-of-two Knox has since capitalised on her experience, writing a book, recording numerous podcasts, and making several speaking appearances, some in Italy. Despite the objections from locals in Perugia and those close to Meredith, Knox pressed ahead with the series, with Lewinsky acting as executive producer. Their initial friendship, formed in 2017 at a speaking event two years after Italy's highest court cleared Knox and Sollecito, has developed into a professional partnership. This week, ahead of the premiere, she also spoke about explaining the case to her four-year-old daughter, Eureka, telling her: 'It's very simple. When Mommy was young, Mommy went to Italy, and she made friends and she had fun, but then someone hurt her friend, and the police thought Mommy hurt her friend, and so they put Mommy in jail. "Mommy was in jail for a long time, and she was very sad. But then one day, Mommy proved that she was innocent, and she got to go home, and then she met your daddy and had you and lived happily ever after.' Critics say the Hulu series and Knox's repeated public retellings amount to a relentless attempt to monetise a tragedy in which she was tangentially involved, rather than a genuine reckoning. Others have questioned whether such projects serve any purpose beyond self-promotion, noting the continued pain for Meredith's family and the sensationalism of revisiting the widely reported case. Guede was released after serving 13 years and has since been investigated for allegedly physically and sexually assaulting a former girlfriend since being freed.

Amanda Knox is an American author and journalist, best known for being wrongly convicted of the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in 2007. Knox was attending the University for Foreigners in Perugia on an exchange year from the University of Washington. While there, she started dating Raffaele Sollecito, a 23-year-old Italian student, and worked in a bar. But on November 2, 2007, Amanda's life changed forever. Knox arrived at her home, later telling police that she noticed that the front door was open and there was dried blood in the bathroom. After calling the police, the body of roommate Meredith was found inside her locked bedroom. Knox and then-boyfriend Sollecito were convicted of stabbing 21-year-old Kercher to death at a flat in Perugia, Italy, in 2007. In 2009, the pair were jailed, with Know receiving a 26 year sentence, and Sollecito receiving 25 years. Knox and Sollecito were acquitted of murder on March 27, 2015, by the Italian supreme court. Judges said that there were a litany of errors regarding the case, including a stark lack of evidence to suggest that either Knox or Sollecito were involved. After her experience, she said that people had flocked to apologise to her - even stopping her in the street to say sorry for jumping to conclusions about her. Knox recently spoke to a panel of lawyers and discussed the effect the case had on her family and how the case came to define her; and featured in a Netflix documentary about her experiences. She married poet and author Christopher Robinson in 2018. In 2021, Knox and Robinson welcomed their first child together. The baby was named Eureka Know Robinson. She took to Instagram to share her news. Since my exoneration, I've struggled to reclaim my identity and protect the people I love from being exploited as tabloid content. It's not easy, and I often feel like I'm trying to invent good choices out of bad whole cloth. I know that I cannot 100% protect my daughter from the kind of treatment I've suffered, but I'm doing the best I can. Amanda Knox Knox believes that she has had to carry the burden for the murder of Kercher, saying that her real killer, Rudy Guede, is almost forgotten due to the high media presence surrounding the case. In 2024, Knox was back in court in Italy. She was re-convicted of a charge related to the brutal 2007 killing of Meredith Kercher. Amanda Knox Knox was found guilty of slander for falsely accusing Patrick Lumumba, a Congolese bar owner, of killing Kercher. Lumumba was held for two weeks in 2007 before he was freed without charge. But despite being sentenced to three years in jail, the mum-of-two will not serve any more jail time, as the three years count as time already served. Who was Meredith Kercher? Meredith Kercher was born in Southwark, South London on 28 December, 1985. An autopsy conducted on her body found that her throat had been cut and she had been stabbed almost 50 times. In 2007, fingerprints were identified at the scene as belonging to Rudy Guede, who was ultimately charged and sentenced for the brutal murder. He was granted early release in November 2021. The case attracted global media interest, with Knox at the centre. Did Amanda Knox get any compensation? Knox was awarded a £16,000 payout after winning a European Human Rights Court case against the Italian government on January 24, 2019. At the Court, she said Italian police had infringed her rights by failing to provide her with a lawyer, an interpreter, and not following proper procedure. She also insisted she had been slapped by cops during questioning but judges ruled there was no proof of that. They wrote: "There was insufficient evidence to conclude that Ms Knox had actually sustained the inhuman or degrading treatment of which she had complained."
