As per the latest report, Aamir Khan is determined to keep the film exclusively for theatrical release.
Aamir Khan's upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, has generated significant buzz among movie enthusiasts. The film delves into powerful themes of inclusion, empathy and resilience, told through the inspiring stories of children with special abilities. Determined to make the film a success, Aamir Khan is going all out with its release strategy. According to recent reports, the actor plans to launch the film across approximately 3,000 screens nationwide.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan and his distribution team initially planned to release Sitare Zameen Par on 1,000 to 1,500 screens across India, with the intention of expanding based on audience demand over the opening weekend. However, the strategy has since evolved into a full-scale nationwide release. As per sources cited by the portal, several single-screen theatre owners and non-national multiplex chains approached Aamir Khan, expressing interest in screening the film at their venues starting June 20.
A source known to the entertainment portal said, 'Though the genre has its limitations in the post-pandemic, the exhibitors are confident that the Aamir Khan factor, coupled with strong content, will draw audiences in larger numbers over the weekend. The exhibitor support for Sitaare Zameen Par is also coming from the 'No OTT' stance taken by Aamir Khan. The film will now release on 3000 to 3500 screens all across the country."
Moreover, with Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir is making a game-changing move by refusing to sell the OTT rights to any platform, despite repeated offers. According to sources, the actor is determined to keep the film exclusively for theatrical release. Initially developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures, the film eventually became a solo venture for Aamir after the studio expressed reservations about the big-screen-only strategy. In response, Aamir reportedly bought back full control of the project, ensuring complete creative and distribution authority.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy-drama starring Aamir Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh. The film is described as a spiritual sequel to Khan's 2007 critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par and is an official remake of the Spanish film Champions. The movie also marks the Hindi film debut of several newcomers, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

Fathers Day 2025: From Taare Zameen Pars Nandkishore Awasthi To Maharajas Vijay Sethupathi; How Role Of Father In Indian Cinema Has Evolved Over Time

Over the past decades, the portrayal of fathers in Indian cinema has undergone a dramatic transformation. From Aamir Khan's critically acclaimed directorial, 'Taare Zameen Par', to Maharaja as Vijay Sethupathi, as societal perceptions of masculinity in fatherhood have shifted, so have the cinematic depictions of fatherhood. This Father's Day let's reflect on the evolving idea of fatherhood in the cinematic landscape, the evolution which isn't just artistic but also changes through the societal expectations. In the past, Father figures in Bollywood, were often shown as authoritarian, and were largely portrayed as strict disciplinarians with emotionally distant personalities, who rarely express vulnerability, in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Amitabh Bachchan's character Yashvardhan Raichand valued authority over empathy, reflecting a common trend of that era. However, on the other hand, Nandkishore Awasthi, portrayed by Vipin Sharma marked a turning point as to how the audience and filmmakers began to critically engage with the emotional role of a father. In Taare Zameen Par, while Nandkishore did fit the role of strict and emotionally distant personalities, the film overall challenged the opposite, sparking conversations about empathy in fatherhood worldwide. Another haunting portrayal of fatherhood is seen in Udaan (2010), through the characters of Rohan Roy and his father Bhairav Singh, played by Rajat Barmecha and Ronit Roy respectively. Bhairav exemplifies dictatorial parenting taken to an extreme, harsh, abusive, and emotionally absent. His overbearing control and violence create a suffocating environment for Rohan, who aspires to be a writer. The contrast between Rohan's quiet resilience and Bhairav's oppressive dominance exposes the psychological. Another must-talk-about portrayal that can be added as an example is the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, played by Aamir Khan in Dangal (2016), Mahavir Singh begins as a stereotypical father, training his daughters like wrestlers, yet his gradual transformation letting them lead on their own terms, showed complex dynamic between control and support. On the other hand is the character of Anirudh played by Sushant Singh Rajput in Chhichhore (2019). He is shown as a father struggling to connect with his son who attempts suicide due to academic pressure. Anirudh is someone who is willing to change his parenting approach using his own past to teach his kid. Cut to more recent portrayals of Vijay Sethupathi in Maharaja. It shows the bond between father and daughter, portraying a tender vulnerability rarely explored in older Indian cinema. Though societal perceptions of fatherhood will continue to evolve, cinema will undoubtedly remain a powerful mirror, reflecting, challenging, and reshaping how we understand what it truly means to be a father. Wishing all the fathers out there a very Happy Father's Day, may your journeys, struggles, and love continue to inspire both real and reel life.

Aamir Khan is always present: Director RS Prasanna on superstar's work hours amid Deepika Padukone's Spirit exit

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is known to be a perfectionist when it comes to his craft. Whether he's acting or making a film, he remains fully committed and consistently available for his collaborators, reveals director RS Prasanna in an exclusive interview with Live Mint. Ahead of Sitaare Zameen Par's release, Prasanna revealed Aamir's working hours. He said, 'We all work the amount of time required to make the film. He is there for the director, however many hours are needed. Always available. He is there, any time of day or night. He is always present for the director.' Sitaare Zameen Par is the 'spiritual' sequel of Aamir's hit Taare Zameen Par. Naturally, the film is carrying a wave of expectations and proportionately, its director is under pressure to deliver. When asked about it before the theatrical release, Prasanna shared how having Aamir on board makes his job easier. "Aamir sir has a very comforting presence. As a director, I am supposed to make people comfortable on sets. It's my job to give positive energy to people on set, to bring out the best in them. But, Aamir sir is the one who does that for me; I think he does that with all directors. 'He's got a very protective aura about him, an amazing ability to sense what the director needs and support him in every way. Not just at a director-producer level, but as a person, he is very empathetic to the people around him. I would largely attribute my handling of the pressure to Aamir sir again. His presence would comfort me—24x7 available.' However, admitting to the pressure, the director added, 'The pressure, specifically, is always there. It's still there. Even now, until... I hope the audience gives it the love they gave to the trailer. I can't wait to see the response in theatres. I'm excited and nervous too. I hope the gods of the movie—the audience—give it the same love.' Before Sitaare…, Aamir was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha. The Bollywood remake of the American film Forrest Gump, did not work at the box office. Talking about meeting Aamir in 2020, RS Prasanna said Aamir seemed 'vulnerable.' Explaining how Aamir is beyond the glitz and glamour of the industry, the filmmaker said, 'The Aamir Khan that I expected him to be…From Lagaan to Taare Zameen Par… you get a feeling that here's a guy who is extremely emotional, sensitive, who gives his heart to everything he does.' "Aamir is like Bhuvan of Lagaan, someone who goes all out, takes up a challenge, can be a great leader, and inspires people. That's exactly who he is in real life. He is emotional, and sensitive. 'I think the Aamir Khan I saw in 2020 made me feel even more respect for him, made me love him more. It showed me that he is a real person in a world that is not expecting authenticity anymore. He speaks with his heart. I am astounded by the level of candour with which he spoke about me in interviews. He is very real. I love the vulnerability in him.' Recalling the tough phase in Aamir's life, he added, 'Over the one year, I could actually feel that Aamir spent time with his family, friends, loved ones—and also analysed what went wrong and what went right. We all loved Laal Singh Chaddha. It is a beautiful film. Maybe there are things that did not connect with the audience. He went through his own journey. I was happy to be allowed into that journey. It was a huge privilege to see it unfold.' 'All of that came from the fact that he had given his heart, soul, and blood to one movie. For him, movies mean so much. My respect towards him grew so much.' The Sitaare Zameen Par director revealed how much he liked Laal Singh Chaddha despite the poor response. 'I was very sad because I loved Laal Singh Chaddha. It has such a healing message. Over time, when people saw it on Netflix, it got a lot of love. Thanks to his family, friends, and fans who supported him for that period.' 'Once, he went to the airport and fans told him, 'Sir, we love Laal Singh Chaddha. Why are you quitting films? Please don't quit.' That helped him heal a lot.' Sitaare Zameen Par is jointly produced by Aamir Khan. It will be released on June 20.
