Aamir Khan finally breaks silence over his divorce from first wife Reena, reveals real reason

Bollywood's Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is in the news these days for his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par. The film is releasing on 20 June 2025, meanwhile, Aamir Khan has talked about his personal life. The superstar has told that he married Reena Dutta in a hurry, which was a big mistake of his life. Aamir Khan was asked on Raj Shamani's podcast what is the biggest mistake of his life. To this the superstar said- 'I have made many mistakes, not just one. But I think that it is because of those mistakes that I am what I am today, not only because of my success but also because of my mistakes.' Aamir Khan further said- 'Now I will say one simple thing like this, Reena and I got married very early. I was 21 years old and she was 18-19 years old. In fact, the first day that was legally possible for me to get married was after turning 21, you have to give a month's notice. So 30 days go there. So when I turned 21 on March 14, after that there was a one-month's notice, so it becomes April 14. But Saturday-Sunday was coming. So, the first day on which the marriage of Reena and me was legally possible was April 18.' The superstar further said- 'We got married on 18 April and we knew each other for only four months before that, and even in those four months we spent very little time with each other. We had a lot of love for each other, there was a lot of affection, that's why we got married. But today when I look back, I feel that you should take an important step like marriage after thinking carefully. At that time, in the excitement of youth, you don't understand many things. But later you realise.' Aamir Khan said- 'However, I have had a very good life with Reena. So do not take it from this that Reena was wrong. This is not what I meant at all. Reena is an amazing person and we have grown up together in a way, because we were so young when we got married. Reena and I respect each other a lot and we have a lot of love for each other in our hearts. But I feel that no one should take such a big step so soon and in such a hurry at such a young age.' Aamir Khan said about his girlfriend Gauri Spratt- We met by mistake and then we became friends and fell in love. Regarding his marriage with Gauri, he said- We can never be husband and wife. Regarding both his ex-wives, he said that even today he has a special bonding with both of them. Even today he respects both of them and has a good relationship with both of them.

Aamir Khan didn't speak to Juhi Chawla for 7 years, until one unexpected call changed everything

Aamir Khan recently revealed that he didn't speak to co-star Juhi Chawla for seven years following a minor argument during the filming of Ishq. (Image: X/@teamsrknepal) In a career spanning decades, Aamir Khan has carved a niche for being not just a perfectionist but also brutally honest—whether it's about his professional choices, personal life, or flaws. Recently, in a candid conversation on entrepreneur Raj Shamani's podcast, the actor peeled back the curtain on one of Bollywood's most unexpected cold wars: his seven-year silence with long-time co-star and close friend Juhi Chawla. The two, who rose to stardom together in the cult classic Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak , had a falling out while filming Ishq in 1997. Aamir admits the reason was minor, but his reaction was anything but. 'Juhi aur mera jhagra hua, 7 saal chala,' he confessed. 'I stopped talking to her—even though we were working together. That too, over a small issue.' While Juhi Chawla reportedly made several attempts to reconcile, Aamir remained immovable. His then-wife, Reena Dutta, even urged him to let go and move forward, but Aamir remained emotionally locked. 'Juhi tried a lot. Reena would tell me—'Kaise kar rahe ho tum? Meet her, end this.' But I wouldn't budge,' Aamir admitted. The silence lingered, awkward and unexplained, even as the two shared the same sets and industry circles. It wasn't just a personal rift; it was a professional one too, clouding one of Bollywood's most celebrated on-screen pairings. — Team_JuhiChawla (@Team_JuhiChawla) It wasn't until 2002, when Aamir and Reena Dutta announced their separation, that the tide turned. Despite years of silence, Juhi Chawla reached out to Aamir—knowing he might not even answer her call. But she dialed anyway. 'Juhi somewhere knew I might not pick up her call, but still she called me. That touched me,' Aamir recalled in the documentary Rubaru Roshni . 'I realised that while we weren't speaking, the care never went away. That's what real friendship is.' The gesture struck a chord. It was the emotional thaw that finally ended a cold war rooted in ego and miscommunication. Aamir, in his words, realised the value of enduring friendships over petty grudges. Now preparing for his next big release Sitare Zameen Par opposite Genelia D'Souza, which hits cinemas on June 20, 2025, Aamir seems to be reflecting more than ever on the emotional script of his own life.

Aamir Khan admits competing with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in 90s: ‘Unke success se mujhe…'

It will be difficult for any cinema lover to pick the best amongst the 3 Khans, Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir. But belonging to the same generation and having started their careers almost at the same time, was there ever a sense of competition amongst them? Sitare Zameen Par actor spills beans on the 'healthy competition' between them during the 90s and went on to praise Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Raj Shamani, in his podcast, asked Aamir Khan about him competing with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The Laal Singh Chadha actor admitted that at one point, they used to compete. 'Har koi ye chahta hai ki sabse zyada wo successful ho, sabse zyada log uske kaam ko pasand kare, aur ye acchi baatein hoti hai.' (Everyone wants they be very successful, and people should love their films the most, and this is a good thing.) The actor further added that he never believes in negativity, and he can never do negative things. He confessed that the competition from his side has always been healthy. The PK star explained that he always gets inspired by others' work, and he never gets upset with their success. His competition has always been with himself. Talking about competition further, Aamir Khan spoke about Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. 'Mujhe ye nahi tha ki main DDLJ jaisi badi romantic film karu kyuki mujhe wo film achi lagti hai. SRK ne bahut kamaal ka kaam kiya hai. Bahut achi lagti hai mujhe, mujhe bhi dekh ke mazaa aata hai. To main usse thodi compete kar raha hu,' he exclaimed. (I did not have in mind to do a romantic film like DDLJ because I like that film and I enjoy watching it. So, I am not competing.)
