Fire service warning after bonfire burns out of control in Essex field

Yahoo6 days ago
FIREFIGHTERS have issued a warning to residents after a bonfire in an Essex field burnt out of control.
Crews from Wickford, Maldon and Chelmsford responded to reports of a blaze at a field in Bicknacre at around midday yesterday and found roughly two football pitches-worth of grass alight.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has used the incident to warn residents about the risk of bonfires during hot, dry weather.

Essex Fire station manager Ben Stapleton said: 'This fire was caused by a bonfire burning out of control and we'd urge anyone planning to have a bonfire as the weather gets hotter to hold off until we've had some more rain.
"While we have had some rain, the ground is still very dry and bonfires can quickly spread out of control.'
Crews worked to surround the fire and prevent it spreading to houses, extinguishing it by 1.50pm.
