John Leguizamo makes San Antonio stop in Latino-focused MSNBC show
Why it matters: The first season of "Leguizamo Does America," which includes an episode about San Antonio, was the most viewed MSNBC original in over two years on Peacock.
State of play: The road trip-style weekly MSNBC series follows host and executive producer John Leguizamo as he explores how Latinos are shaping history, culture and food in major U.S. cities.
"For season two, I wanted to go deeper into America and put a magnifying glass on Latino exceptionalism, Latino ingenuity, and Latino genius," Leguizamo, who is of Puerto Rican and Colombian descent, said in a statement.
The big picture: The economic power of U.S. Latinos surpassed $4 trillion in 2023, according to a UCLA and Cal Lutheran report published this year.
"Latinos are over 60 million here in the United States," DeJesus says. "So we are the mainstream, right ... We have something to offer, and from a business point of view, we think it makes a lot of sense as well."
Zoom in: In the show, Leguizamo, an Emmy-winning actor, visits the birthplace of sizzling fajitas with Democratic U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro in San Antonio and trains with lucha libre wrestlers in Denver.
He also toured Philadelphia, Phoenix, New Orleans and Raleigh with artists, chefs, activists and entertainers.
What they're saying:"When we went to San Antonio, we went there really because it's considered the cradle of Mexican American culture," Leguizamo tells Axios.
"We knew that the population was still predominantly influenced by Latino culture."
What we're watching: The San Antonio episode, the last in the season, premieres at 8pm Sunday.

Rapper Maluma stops show to call out mother for bringing infant to his Mexico City concert
Colombian rapper Maluma stopped a concert in Mexico City to chastise one of his own fans for bringing her infant to his show and exposing the tyke to high decibel levels. The performer, who is nearing the end of his '+Pretty +Dirty World Tour,' stopped rapping after spotting the fan holding up a baby and dancing. In what's become viral social media video from Palacio de los Deportes over the weekend, Maluma asked the baby's age and was told a year. 'Do you think it's a good idea to bring a baby who's a year old to a concert where the decibels are so f---ing high and the sound is so loud?" Maluma said in Spanish. As Maluma spoke, the crowd booed in potential disapproval of his judgmental statement. "I'd like to know what he's doing here. Next time protect his ears or something," said Maluma, who appeared to win the cheering crowd back to his side when talking about the child's welfare. "It's an act of irresponsibility by you, you're swaying him as if he were a toy, that boy does not want to be there." The artist said he'd never being a his young child, Paris, to a show with this kind of volume. "Truly. I'm telling you with love and with utmost respect, now that I'm a dad," he said. "Me, I wouldn't bring Paris to a concert. So for the next one, be a little more conscious." The tour wraps up with shows on Friday and Saturday in Zapopan, in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

Singer Maluma stops concert to scold fan who brought baby to show without ear protection
A video of Colombian singer Maluma has gone viral, showing the artist stopping his concert over the weekend to scold a fan who brought a toddler to his show without ear protection. "Do you think it's a good idea to bring a 1-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are this f------ high?" the 31-year-old says in Spanish in the video. "That baby doesn't even know what they're doing here. Next time, protect their ears or something. For real." Maluma, who is a parent to a 1-year-old daughter with partner Susana Gómez, continued, "It's your responsibility. You're waving them around like they're a toy. That baby doesn't want to be there, for real. I'm telling you with all the love and respect -- now that I'm a father, I would never bring them to a concert. So, for the next time, be a bit more aware, OK?" According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hearing loss can occur in both children and adults, and even before birth. Excessive exposure to loud noises can cause noise-induced hearing loss, which the CDC notes can "result from a one-time exposure to a very loud sound, blast, or impulse, or from listening to loud sounds over an extended period." The World Health Organization also estimates that over 1 billion people between the ages of 12 and 35 are "at risk for hearing loss due to recreational exposure to loud sound." To prevent hearing loss, the CDC recommends avoiding places with loud sounds or limiting exposure, if possible, using ear protection and turning down the volume of music systems or moving away from loud sounds.
