Tesla backflips on $30k battery repair after Musk steps in

Elon Musk has personally intervened after his company initially failed to assist a loyal Tesla customer in dealing with a costly recall fault.
The drama began when X user Jessica Tetreau posted a tweet asking for a contact at Tesla management after her Tesla's battery seal failed.
Jessica claimed that Tesla's warranty and insurance would not cover the issue, and Tesla Service indicated it was not their responsibility, despite her vehicle being under warranty at the time.

'Does anyone here have a contact with Tesla management?' she wrote.
'My car has a recall on the battery seal and mine failed. Tesla Insurance won't cover it, and Tesla Service says it's not their problem either.
'They want $30k by the end of the week. I'm literally heartbroken and in tears. My car was $150k and this is an enormous stress for me.'
Three days later, Elon Musk responded to her post from his personal X account, promising to 'investigate.'

Jessica's Tesla is reportedly worth US$150,000 ($231,000), and from the images shared online, it appears to be a Tesla Model S, a high-end electric sedan.
The Model S, along with the Model X, is currently subject to a recall notice in the US for battery seal issues that could allow water to enter the high-voltage battery pack, potentially causing electrical failure.

According to Jessica, Tesla initially wanted to charge her US$24,200.98 to repair the battery fault, and before Musk's intervention, social media users criticised Tesla's customer service.
'That's criminal … I'm so sorry, Jessica. Tesla has fallen victim to the same greed they once criticised legacy automakers for,' one wrote.
'As a TSLA shareholder, service problems are a big reason I'm holding and not buying more,' another added.
'They're only going to get worse — they're not even a luxury car,' a third person claimed.
After Musk's post, Tesla employees swarmed Jessica's thread, promising to have the car ready by the end of the week.
Three days after Musk's promised investigation, Jessica confirmed that the Tesla was returned to working order.
The swift resolution after Musk's public reply has ignited fresh debate about Tesla's customer service and whether a high-profile intervention from the billionaire CEO should be the only means for customers to receive adequate assistance.
It has become increasingly common for frustrated Tesla owners to post complaints on X in hopes that Musk will see them. Many believe it's the only way to solve major problems related to their Teslas.

One user on X said, 'It turns out you have a contact through X. Directly to the motha f***ing god of Tesla.'
'Would be nice if there was a way for people who get stuck in these binds to be able to escalate for resolution without requiring X,' another said.
This isn't the first time Tesla owners have expressed dissatisfaction with the company's customer service, and it's certainly not the first time Elon Musk has personally intervened to address Tesla matters.
Earlier in May, Elon Musk was forced to intervene again after a Tesla customer posted on X criticising Tesla's customer service as a 'failure.'
That matter was resolved in just a few hours after Musk's involvement.

These kinds of inaccuracies are initially hilarious, until we realise we're drowning in a sea of online misinformation and the joke's on us. Nevertheless, we're repeatedly told that the AI spaceship is leaving for a brave new world, so we'd better get on board or risk being left behind. Unfortunately, the people steering the spaceship appear to have lost their moral compass. So where exactly we're headed remains unclear. Loading Australia does not currently have AI-specific legislation. Chair of the Tech Council of Australia, Scott Farquhar, prefers it that way, stating that he doesn't want Australia to be 'hampered by the wrong legislation'. The right legislation, according to the council, is a text and data mining exemption to the Copyright Act, which would allow AI companies to use copyrighted work to train their large language models without seeking consent or paying authors a cent. Their illogical argument is that the work of Australian artists is immeasurably valuable, while simultaneously worth nothing at all. The council's lobbying effort at the Economic Reform Roundtable this week will also push for Australia to build more data centres, the huge energy- and water-guzzling facilities which provide the vast power, storage and cooling requirements that AI requires. Farquhar has repeatedly argued that Australia should become a regional data centre hub, saying: 'I think we are going to have a huge amount of benefits (from AI) and I hope we as a nation set ourselves up to have some of those benefits accrue to Australia.'

‘Saved my sanity': Mum-of-three reveals household product she can't live without

I'll start by disclosing that I do not have any pets. So no pet hair, fur, shedding or muddy paws in my house. I do however have three small children, which is arguably messier and equals a far grubbier household than any long-haired excitable dog could ever be held responsible for. The state of my beloved floorboards after a weekend of soccer games, copious art and craft sessions, never-ending snacks and meal times with a baby in a high chair who thinks it's hilarious to up-end a bowl of spaghetti bolognaise basically equals a constant crime scene. No amount of cleaning up as I go or a quick sweep to save my sanity can save my floors. It's a full time job, but three kids in and I've finally made my peace with the constant mess throughout the day, opting to save it for one major clean at the end of the day once the grubs are in bed. I've used stick vacuums and lightweight mops in the past, but none of these seem to collect every crumb, or scrub every scuff mark. And of course, there's the simple fact that you still need to be on the end of the vacuum or mop, which means more work for you, my friend. Safe to say, I've probably never been more jazzed to try a cleaning product in my life. The prospect of hitting a button and leaving the house for a couple of hours, with kids in tow, only to return to sparkling floors (ready to be destroyed all over again, sigh), was just. so. thrilling. The Roomba® Max 705 Vac Robot + AutoEmpty™ Dock is the latest release from iRobot and promises to 'double down on dirt elimination' and 'leave no mess behind', which is music to my ears. This new model features a vacuuming-only robot vacuum, so there's no mop or mopping system, which might not work for all households but it does allow the machine to clean carpets and hard floor surfaces, so it's perfect for homes with a mix of surfaces. (Side note, other iRobot models do offer mopping capabilities, which might be better suited to your home). This fancy lady is part of the company's latest generation of Roomba vacuums and is designed to offer high-powered cleaning with minimal user intervention. According to iRobot, the Roomba Max 705 Vac delivers 180 times more suction power than models in its baseline range, the 600 series. So the idea is that the extreme power lifting suction is so good, you don't need to be mopping nearly as much. First impressions The set up itself was pretty straightforward. You simply download the Roomba app, the device shows up instantly on the app, and after software update is then ready to scan the room. The advanced 3D mapping splits the areas into zones after scanning, meaning you can elect for just the kitchen to be cleaned, if that's where you want your new BFF to focus. The device also recommends when it's time for a clean, which is a fun addition. The object recognition and navigation is super advanced, so you can forget about watching on in horror as the vac bumps and bangs into furniture, or gets confused trying to find its way around corners and attempting to sweep up toys and tiny shoes. This is the same for night time operation, if you choose to pop it on while you're sleeping. One of my favourite features about this particular vac, is the inclusion of the autoempty dock, which automatically empties and completely traps dust and debris for up to 75 days. So farewell, dust clouds. After nicknaming our gal the 'Mini Me', I set her up for her first spin around the room, which is an average-size open-plan family room with the kitchen, island bench, dining table and lounge area all in one. Just 25 minutes was all it took for the Roomba to zip around my living area, scooping up everything in her path (hair, food scraps, dust, dirt, kids' stickers – you name it) before returning to the docking station to charge and empty the dust bin. Another minute or two to pop my furniture back in place and the floors looked fresh as a daisy, as though small children had never set foot inside the home. Main takeaway Given it retails for $1,599, this handy little helper is hardly an impulse purchase. But, after installing the product four weeks ago, I've already used it at least twice weekly, so safe to say she's certainly earning her keep in our household. Of course, for any really wet and sticky surfaces, you'd have to pull out the mop. However this model, tucked away in the corner of the room out of view, is perfect for those regular, in-between floor cleans.
