KC2026: Charter busses will take you to World Cup matches

Yahoo23-05-2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local leaders just completed a survey on how fans and residents want to get around the city when the FIFA World Cup comes to town next year.
The survey's closed, according to KC2026, the local planning committee preparing for the six matches taking place at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in June and July of 2026. The survey addressed questions about transportation.

One of the questions was if services were available, would you consider using public transportation to get to and from World Cup games instead of driving a car.
Thursday, KC2026 Chief Operations Officer Lindsey Douglas said there will be a bus that will take fans to the stadium if they're planning to go to a match.
'Those busses will be charter busses,' Douglas said. 'That is the type of bus that will be used. Related to that specific survey question, busses are viewed as public transportation, right?'
'Whether they're charter or not?' FOX4 responded.
'Right, no matter the type of bus, that is kind of the approach that we're taking.'

In March, KC2026 announced they've secured 200 busses for the World Cup. Fans will go to a park and ride location and then go to the stadium. The park and ride locations have not been made known.
'We are hoping to announce them later this summer,' Douglas said, talking about the locations. 'We have another deliverable, kind of a next round deliverable due to FIFA in October.'
Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Chief Operating Officer Chuck Ferguson said you likely won't be taking a KCATA bus to a game. Instead, he said you could take one to connect to the Streetcar on Main Street and then head to the National World War I Museum and Memorial for Fan Fest.
'It's going to be highly secured around there,' Ferguson said of the area south of Union Station. 'There's going to be a lot of congestion around there, probably a lot of pedestrian congestion, and so we don't want to be driving into that area. People are going to have a really hard time driving their own vehicles to that area, so we absolutely advocate people taking the Streetcar as much as possible, and we'll get them there at various locations north and south.'

Ferguson also said there could be less than 2,000 parking spots available match day at the stadium.
'You as a Chiefs fan that goes to a regular game, you're used to driving there,' he continued. 'Maybe you tailgate, maybe you don't, but you're used to parking, not going to happen for World Cup.'
KC2026 should get the results back sometime next week.

England 1-3 Senegal: Thomas Tuchel suffers first defeat as Jude Bellingham denied late equaliser

Thomas Tuchel suffered his first defeat as England manager as Senegal came from behind to a earn a deserved 3-1 friendly win at the City Ground. The Three Lions were uninspiring in their World Cup qualifier win over Andorra on Saturday and Tuchel made it clear he expected much more from his players, urging them to bring the smiles to this encounter. Advertisement They were very few of those as England fell to a first ever defeat against African opposition. Harry Kane's early finish after Anthony Gordon's strike had been parried out gave them a strong start, though there had already been signs that Senegal would offer a real threat. That continued throughout the first-half, with Dean Henderson forced into a five saves before the break, and it was therefore no surprise when the equaliser came. Nicolas Jackson did well to keep the ball in play and hook a cross into the middle, where Kyle Walker was caught out as Ismaila Sarr got in front to finish well. Senegal then took the lead after the break and it was all too easy for the visitors, a long ball over the top finding Habib Diarra and he was allowed to drive into the box and beat Henderson from a tight angle. Advertisement Morgan Gibbs-White was a popular introduction on home soil and he made an impact, hammering a strike straight at Edouard Mendy after good work from Eberechi Eze. Jude Bellingham thought he had snatched an equaliser with seven minutes remaining when he smashed in from close range from a corner, but that was chalked off after a VAR review as Levi Colwill was deemed to have handled the ball before it dropped to the midfielder. The match was sealed in fitting fashion, England sloppy in taking a free-kick and caught out on the break in stoppage-time, leading to Cheikh Sabaly finishing cooly and boos ringing out around the City Ground.
