Chiefs and Pirates to match R20 million bid for star defender?
It remains unclear whether either of the Soweto giants will match the offer, but the fact that both need a left-back suggests there's a chance one could be tempted to try to keep him in South Africa.
'There are local teams which have shown interest and Pirates were believed to be in the forefront to sign him but apparently the French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice is the one leading now,' Soccer Laduma noted.
'They are very close to closing the deal. Remember, we spoke about European interest before.'
When asked what Nice are willing to put down, the source said, 'That's what Sekhukhune United are looking at R20m is what the price is believed to be for Vuyo.'
This price tag may be out of reach for Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
'And just like they did with Elias Mokwana to Esperance de Tunis, they are including a 30% sell on clause to the next club agreement on the deal,' the source added.
'So, if Nice sells Vuyo then Sekhukhune United will get 30% from that deal. That's why they are looking at R20m for now.'
The 21-year-old has been monumental in Babina Noko's CAF Conderation Cup chasing season, a feat that will be decided on Saturday. Sekhukhune United lie one point behind third-placed Stellenbosch with one game remaining.

Orlando Pirates seven debutants shine as philosophy revealed
Orlando Pirates kicked off their 2025/2026 campaign with a statement victory, sweeping past Polokwane City 2-0 in the MTN8 quarter-final at Orlando Stadium. Under newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers introduced seven debutants, and the response was electric. Former Polokwane star Oswin Appollis lit up the pitch against his old club. He opened the scoring in emphatic style and won the penalty that Patrick Maswanganyi converted, underlining his explosive start in Pirates colours. Sihle Nduli and Sipho Mbule stamped their authority in midfield, running the show on their competitive debuts. The duo's chemistry gave Pirates complete control in the centre of the park, validating Ouaddou's bold selection decisions. From the bench, Tshepang Moremi, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Abdoulaye Mariko also made their first appearances for the Soweto giants, while Boitumelo Radiopane earned a surprise start, seizing the opportunity with a lively performance as the lone striker. Ouaddou acknowledged the hunger his squad displayed, attributing it to the natural desire to impress a new coach. 'You're right Lorenz. When a new coach comes in, and when I was in their position while I was still a player, you want to impress the coach, and I'm happy about that,' said Ouaddou. 'This season the club has decided to go for depth in the squad.' The Moroccan tactician made it clear that players must earn their opportunities. 'We have to give chances to those who deserve it, I don't just give chances because I want to please them, if I give chances it's because you show me in training that you can bring something to the team.' Emphasising a team-first mentality, Ouaddou highlighted the need for a strong group dynamic to chase silverware this season. 'To win a game, you need 11 players, but to win the titles, to win competitions, you need a group and it's the philosophy we want to implement this season.' He also downplayed the notion of 'substitutes', opting instead to see his entire squad as contributors. 'Everyone will be important, I will never call a player a substitute, I try to avoid that word, they are all impact players.' With their MTN8 mission off to a strong start. Pirates now gear up for their opening league clash against Sekhukhune United next weekend. Momentum is building in the Buccaneers' camp. And with fresh faces rising to the occasion, competition for places has never looked fiercer. Will Orlando Pirates new coach win a trophy? Grobler happy with decision to join 'ambitious' Sekhukhune
Sekhukhune United striker Bradley Grobler has shared his ambitions with the club, saying he wants to win the title with them. Grobler netted twice on debut for Sekhukhune to defeat TS Galaxy 3-2 in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Grobler, who joined Babina Noko from now-defunct SuperSport United in the off-season, netted a brace to inspire his team's victory after trailing 2-0 earlier in the match. 'It has been good for me coming into the ambitious team and they have shown faith in me. It's a nice way to get started like that. One thing that came out for me was character in the team, so all in all, I think it is a good start,' Globler told the media after the match. 'I have achieved a lot, but there is still more I want to achieve. It has been a long time since I won a trophy and I miss that feeling. I feel like I've joined a team that also wants that first trophy. 'I believe that I joined a team that has the potential and courage that was very important for me. I think joining a team that has the same vision of winning a trophy is the plan for me this season,' added the evergreen 37-year-old striker.

Orlando Pirates unveil Malian sensation but demands this first
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has confirmed that new signing Abdoulaye Mariko made a strong first impression, but insists the young forward must quickly learn English to fully settle into life in South Africa. Mariko, 22, came off the bench during Pirates' 2-0 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8 opener, producing a lively second-half cameo that thrilled the crowd and sparked growing excitement around his potential impact in the upcoming season. The former Djoliba forward arrived at Mayfair with high expectations after a stunning campaign in the Malian Ligue 1, where he claimed both the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards. His namesake, also Abdoulaye Mariko, joined Pirates from Djoliba as well but will spend the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Chippa United. Ouaddou recognised the potential in his new recruit but stressed the importance of adapting both on and off the pitch. 'Mariko is a very interesting young player, he was the top scorer in Mali, he took the award as the best player in the league and top scorer, he's come in a new environment in a big club,' Ouaddou said. While praising Mariko's talent and debut display, the coach underlined the challenges of adapting to a new culture, environment and team dynamic. 'He has lots of quality, as you may have seen today, but we still need to improve him and bring him to the high level. It's not easy when you're coming into a new country, with new culture – he has to integrate himself to the team, have to learn the language.' 'It's the first thing I told him he has to do, to learn English in order to integrate himself in the team – but the expectation for him is like all the players, to give his best and be the best for Orlando Pirates, because there's a lot of expectation, inside the country and on the continent.' Mariko featured alongside five other debutants during Pirates' confident start to the new season. Sipho Mbule, Sihle Nduli, Oswin Appollis, Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi all pulled on the jersey for the first time. Ouaddou remains optimistic about Mariko's potential, stating. 'And he knows that, I think he's a top man, the personality is good and he's a good player, yeah.' Will Mariko be a hit at Orlando Pirates?
