Earlier this year, a new camera was installed on a Lanarkshire road after locals raised concerns over the number of incidents on the busy stretch. It was enforced after police recorded nearly 300 incidents, including 81 accidents, on the Shawhead flyover near Coatbridge in the past four years. Just days until August 1 'left lane' law will throw drivers in PRISON for 'driving just one mph under the speed limit' The notorious junction takes drivers from Coatbridge to the M8 and A8, and continues onto the Bellshill bypass with roads leading to the M74. Fearful residents have spent years pleading for something to be done to improve safety on the road. We previously told how drivers on a stretch of Scotland's longest road have been hit by fines totalling almost £7million in three years. Stats show 66,908 penalties were dished out to motorists for breaking speed limits on the A9 between Dunblane, Perthshire, and Inverness between 2022-24. And with the minimum punishment being £100 and three points on a driving licence, it means at least £6,690,800 has been raked in.
