Maya Jama joins Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice ringside for Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn clash - as other stars including Idris Elba and KSI also settle in for grudge bout

Daily Mail29-04-2025
Marcus Rashford has joined forces ringside with Declan Rice to take in the spectacle everybody is talking about: Chris Eubank Jr's clash with Conor Benn.
The England stars were filmed deep in conversation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where a host of sporting, social media, and television stars are watching the hottest show in town.
Elsewhere, Idris Elba, Gordon Ramsey, KSI, and IShowSpeed have taken their seats for the long-anticipated clash.
The bout has been a long time coming, having first been scheduled for 2022 before it was called off because Benn failed a drugs test, as exclusively revealed by Mail Sport.
Maya Jama also has two seats ringside, with fans eagerly awaiting to see if she will be sat alongside her reported partner, Manchester City star Ruben Dias.
Rashford was earlier pictured by Mail Sport greeting fans in one of the lounges at the stadium.
England stars Noni Madueke, Kieran Trippier, Ben Chilwell, and Ollie Watkins have reportedly been due to take their place - despite the latter two facing off in the afternoon FA Cup semi-final between Crystal Palace and Aston Villa at Wembley.
Ashley Walters, who plays Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe in the hit Netflix series Adolescence, is supposed to attend, as will film star Michael Ward.
Eddie Howe was said to be making the trek down from Newcastle - fresh from relegating Ipswich 3-0 - alongside Trippier to attend as a guest of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, owners of the Magpies, despite his recent pneumonia scare.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has a couple of seats, as does Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
WBO Intercontinental heavyweight champion Moses Itauma will be checking in to spy on some fellow punchers, boxing fan Ramsey (who incidentally has a black belt in karate) will hope to see a storm cooked up, while former Spurs and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is meant to be taking his seat.
From the world of music, Dizzee Rascal, who is often spotted at fights, will feast his eyes on the action.
And there is room for YouTube and social media influencers, who are increasingly making headway on our television sets, in the form of KSI and Speed. The pair were photographed taking in the action on the undercard, intently watching Liam Smith's clash with Aaron McKenna.
One man who was not meant to be present is Chris Eubank Sr, who has repeatedly voiced his disapproval of the fight - but it turns out he is there.

The former world champion has raised concerns about his son fighting at the middleweight limit of 160lbs after also agreeing to a rehydration clause that states he cannot weigh more than 170lbs at a second-weigh in on the day of the fight.
Eubank Jr subsequently missed weight by half an ounce on Friday and was hit with a $500,000/£375,000 fine.
He has also branded his son a 'disgrace' for slapping Benn with an egg during a press conference in February.
He said: 'That is disgraceful. I'm going to be in your corner? I would never have been in your corner; that is a disgrace.
'You are smashing an egg in someone's face, and you are trying to justify it. There is no justification for it. There is nothing noble about that.'
Eubank Jr addressed his father's criticism at Thursday's final press conference, as he spoke about the 'pain' of not having Sr by his side for the biggest fight of his career.
In an emotional monologue, Eubank Jr also opened up about the agony of losing his brother, Sebastian, following a heart attack in Dubai in 2021.
'I have a 31-year-old brother who is buried in the desert in Dubai; that is pain,' Jr explained. 'I have his son, three years old, he asks why can't I see my daddy? Why can't he take me to school? That is pain.
'My own father, a man I idolised for my entire life, and he doesn't speak to me. We haven't spoken for years and he thinks I'm a disgrace. These things are what pain is to me.'
All the same, he was filmed arriving with his son on Saturday night and exclusively told Mail Sport at the venue: 'I back my son no matter what. The egg thing he did? Very disappointed, but I forgave him instantly. And now, he always has to understand you always have to preach that this is not the way we behave as standardbearers, as noblemen.'

Amorim defends Bayindir after Manchester United keeper's blunder helps Arsenal win

Ruben Amorim defended Altay Bayindir after goalkeeping blunders returned to haunt Old Trafford when the Turkish player's error allowed Riccardo Calafiori to head in the winner for Arsenal. Amorim was also forced to deny that he had dropped André Onana from Manchester United's matchday squad, saying the keeper had not yet trained enough after injury. Bayindir's mistake came from Declan Rice's 13th-minute corner, the Turk managing only to palm the ball on for Calafiori to head in. United complained that Bayindir had been impeded – William Saliba appeared to block him – to which Amorim pointed after the defeat. 'If you watch the ball, [the opponent] is allowed to do a lot of things at the corners,' Amorim said. 'We need to do the same. But when you touch that way [block], the goalkeeper needs to [be able to] use his hands to catch the ball, not push players [out of the way]. He chooses to push players and let the ball pass. But again, it's the rules. If it's allowed, we need to do the same thing.' Amorim was defiant when asked if he considered starting Tom Heaton ahead of Bayindir after the latter's similar error allowed a Son Heung‑min corner to go straight in during the 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham last season. Amorim referred to Bayindir's next display, in the FA Cup third-round 5-3 penalty shootout win against Arsenal in January. 'Why? Without VAR [in the competition],' the 40-year-old head coach said. 'With VAR, it's a foul. And then what happened in the next game? Arsenal. Who saved the penalty? Who saved the game?' The Portuguese denied dropping Onana, citing his recovery from a hamstring problem. Amorim said: 'No, I didn't drop Onana from the squad. I didn't drop one of the other two from the squad [Bayindir, Heaton]. So it's not the case of dropping Onana. It's not putting André Onana in just one week without seeing the game, without time, with training.' Amorim was asked if he is content with Onana, Bayindir and Heaton. 'We proved today that we can win any game in the Premier League, especially against a great team like Arsenal, and we were the better team. I'm happy with the three goalkeepers.' After United signed the No 9 Benjamin Sesko for £73.7m, Amorim excluded Rasmus Højlund, another centre-forward, from the matchday squad. He was asked if this meant the Dane would depart. 'We'll see what is going to happen in the market.' Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion Of the defeat, Amorim said: 'We deserved more and we were the better team, that is clear but in the end we lost. We need to work on the things we need to improve. We need to defend set pieces. 'We did a lot of things right. There are a lot of things without seeing the video that we need to work on. I am really proud of my players. We stuck to the plan even when the stadium was nervous, we continued to play the way we played and that will help us in the future.' Mikel Arteta was delighted with the victory. 'Big, big result,' the Arsenal manager said. 'When you feel that they [United] are building something special [and] want to [start] the season in a good way and you are able to come away with a win, I think I'm very happy for our team.' Arteta was asked about the debut of his new No 9, Viktor Gyökeres. 'He did a lot of things very well. Coming away from Manchester United, you win your first game with Arsenal, it's a good start,' the Spaniard said.

Jack Grealish handed Man Utd example to follow by David Moyes at Everton

Jack Grealish is in line for his Everton debut against Leeds on Monday and Dvid Moyes is already plotting how he can draw the Man City man's best form out of him David Moyes hopes he can rekindle the magic from Jack Grealish and cites Jesse Lingard as an example of how he has proven he can do it. Everton kick-off their campaign on Monday at Leeds with loan signing Grealish in contention for his debut. ‌ The Manchester City and England midfielder has fallen out of favour with boss Pep Guardiola and played only 715 Premier League minutes last season. But now he's joined Everton looking to get back to his best with the World Cup coming next summer. Moyes is hoping he can do what he did with Lingard, when he signed him on loan from Manchester United at West Ham in 2021 which saw the player find form and earn an England recall. ‌ The Everton boss said: 'I think we are all saying there is a Jack Grealish who played for Aston Villa, there's one who played for Manchester City, one we've seen playing for England and along the line there he is playing for arguably the best manager in the world. So I take his thoughts as well but I have to find ways of getting the best out of players as well. ‌ 'Jesse Lingard is an example. If we can get him to be as successful as that this year it would be great. Without putting all the pressure on Jack, and I think he carries a lot of pressure anyway because of who he is and what he is, I think he's got a wee bit where he has to prove one or two people (wrong) as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does.' Moyes did not speak to Guardiola before completing the move for Grealish but has been confident he would join this summer for a while. The Scot said: 'I didn't speak directly to Pep about it, although he has him closely and is one of the best managers and chooses what he wants. 'My choice is that I think he can bring us something which we've not got, a bit more flair and hopefully more creativity to our attacking line. What convinced me is the knowledge that he thinks he's got a little bit to prove and to stand up. I've had to do that myself personally. I've had to come back from being knocked down. Sometimes you have to have that resilience to bounce back, to fight back and to show everybody. 'I just sense that Jack is carrying that with him now. I hope it shows through this season because, if it does, then we'll get a lot of good things from Jack if he does.' ‌ Moyes is trying to rebuild Everton's squad after a mass exodus of first-team players at the end of last season. He's brought in Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Thierno Barry, Adam Aznou, Mark Travers and Carlos Alcaraz has made his loan permanent. Moyes added: 'I think the club have done brilliantly to build a new stadium. It has taken years to happen but they've got there eventually and done it. I think now there has to be a building of a football club back inside it, to get it back to where it was and more importantly to get the team back to where it was. Or closer to where it should be. 'We are a long way off at the moment. I don't think we can do that in this window and make the team what we want it to be, but we are going to need people along the journey to make it more exciting and make people want to come and play. ‌ 'Whether that is through high-profile players or our league position or how we are playing and our performances, we are needing some of them to give us a lift now. There's been quite a few players who I've been disappointed have not chosen to come to Everton this summer and I think that's because, if you look at the last four or five years, we've not been in great shape. 'Hopefully they are beginning to see a new stadium, great results in the second half of last season, and they start to believe Everton is a good home for them.'

Chelsea reject European giants loan offer for out-of-favour star - as Blues insist on permanent move to fund for attacker

Chelsea have rebuffed Bayern Munich 's attempt to sign forward Christopher Nkunku on loan. Chelsea and the player would prefer a permanent move and talks are ongoing. The Blues want to offload Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell among others before bringing in a wide player and an attacking midfielder. Manchester United 's Alejandro Garnacho, Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and Manchester City 's Savinho, who is a target for Tottenham, have been discussed to varying degrees. The London club made an underwhelming start to the Premier League season as Crystal Palace ground out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. After a truncated pre-season following victory in the Club World Cup, everything pointed to a Chelsea side lacking both preparation and rest as Oliver Glasner 's team coped relative easily with a new-look yet disjointed attack. Eberechi Eze started for Palace despite speculation he is about to leave and, if there were doubts about how supporters felt about the player whose goal won them the FA Cup in May, they were dispelled when he was substituted to a standing ovation late on. The England international provided the game with its only major talking point, lashing in a brilliant free-kick in the first half that was ruled out after Marc Guehi obstructed Chelsea's wall, drawing a furious response from Palace fans. As expected, Nicolas Jackson was not in Enzo Maresca's squad after being made surplus to requirements, with Newcastle considering a bid, while Joao Pedro was preferred at number nine to fellow new signing Liam Delap. Chelsea were playing 35 days after their win over Paris St Germain in the Club World Cup final in the United States and showed signs of mental fatigue in a first-half display low on creativity.
