Venus Williams Becomes 2nd Oldest Woman to Win WTA Game

Rana Atef
Early Wednesday, Venus Williams reached a new milestone in her career after being the second oldest female tennis player to win a WTA game.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion said after the game, 'I had to come back because they informed me earlier this year I'm on COBRA.' s
She defeated world No. 35 Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-4 at the Mubadala Citi DC Open.
'So I was like, 'I gotta get my benefits!' You guys know what it's like. I'm always at the doctor so I need this insurance.'
Williams entered this tournament as a wild card and she didn't play on the WTA Tour since March 2024.
She didn't win any official match in 709 days.
Williams admits that she never officially retired. She never closed the door. In her last few years on tour, the results weren't good. Injuries piled up, as they tend to do for athletes who approach their 40s.
'There were so many times I wanted to coast and kind of chill,' Williams said. 'Do you know how hard it is to play tennis? You don't know how much work goes into this. It's 9-to-5 except you're running the whole time and then lifting weights and then you're repeating it the next day.'
Williams is not the oldest women's player to win a match on the WTA Tour. That would be Martina Navratilova winning a first-round match at Wimbledon in 2004.

Tennis: Osaka to work with Wiktorowski on trial after Mouratoglou split - Omni sports

Japan's Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, will work with Polish coach Tomasz Wiktorowski on a trial basis after splitting with Patrick Mouratoglou after less than a year together. Osaka announced the parting with Frenchman Mouratoglou, the former coach of superstar Serena Williams, on social media on Monday before defeating Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault 6-4, 6-2 in 76 minutes in a first round match at the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal. Osaka, ranked 49th, began working in Canada with Wiktorowski, who coached Poland's Agnieszka Radwańska from 2011-2018, helping her reach the Wimbledon final and world number two ranking in July 2012. Wiktorowski also coached Poland's Iga Swiatek from late 2021 until last October, a run where she won four of her six career Grand Slam singles titles, before adding the most recent at Wimbledon earlier this month. Osaka, who improved to 11-1 in matches against players ranked outside the top 100, will next face 13th seed Liudmila Samsonova in the second round. They have split four prior meetings but Osaka won the two they played on hardcourts. Former world number one Osaka, 27, began working with Mouratoglou last September. "Merci Patrick it was such a great experience learning from you," Osaka posted on social media. "Wishing you nothing but the best. You are one of the coolest people l've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around." Mouratoglou said on Instagram he was "grateful for the trust, the journey and what we have built together," and told Osaka he "will always root for you." Under the Frenchman's guidance, Osaka reached the Auckland final in January but retired after the first set with an abdominal injury. She won twice at the Australian Open but retired after the first set in her third match with the same injury. Osaka won her first WTA title since the 2021 Australian Open in May at the L'Open 35 de Saint Malo, but fell in the first round of the French Open and the third round at Wimbledon. 5 Stars Threatened with Leaving Chelsea Before the Premier League Start

Amir Haggag Chelsea are in a crucial transfer window this summer, as they seek to offload a number of players before the start of the 2025-26 season. Reports indicate that the club's management has drawn up a list of several prominent players threatened with departure, as they are no longer in the coach's plans for the new season. At the forefront of these players is Portuguese forward Joao Felix. According to The Sun, the Blues have reached an agreement to sell the player to Saudi club Al-Nassr for £43.7 million. Felix joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid for £38.4 million before being loaned to Italian club AC Milan last January, a spell that proved unsuccessful. Chelsea are also seeking to offload several other players this summer. Striker Nicolas Jackson has attracted interest from several clubs, most notably Manchester United, and his departure cannot be ruled out. Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who joined the team last summer, has also become a target for Fulham, who are preparing a loan bid with an option to buy. The 26-year-old has barely featured in the Premier League since his £30 million move from Leicester City last summer. Fulham are also continuing negotiations with Arsenal over a deal for Reiss Nelson, who came on as a substitute in their friendly against AC Milan in Singapore. In a related development, Portuguese midfielder Renato Veiga is reportedly set to join Atletico Madrid, while Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are reportedly keen to leave the club. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Zamalek Announces New Deal After Al-Juffali's Departure

Amir Haggag Zamalek officials are awaiting the conclusion of negotiations with Pharco Club regarding the signing of Ahmed Al-Juffali, a first-team player, to resolve the team's foreign player crisis. Zamalek currently has five players in its ranks: Mahmoud Bentayj, Chico Banza (new signing), Seif El-Jaziri, Salah Musaddaq, and Ahmed Al-Juffali. Once the Al-Juffali deal with Pharco is completed, Zamalek will announce its new deal to make room for the new player. Pharco Club is close to resolving the crisis with Tunisian Ahmed Al-Juffali, Zamalek's player, after most previous attempts to loan the player to any club in Egypt failed. Tunisian clubs insisted on obtaining his services for free or for a low fee that would not satisfy Zamalek's management. Al-Juffali is keen to continue in the Egyptian Premier League, which has prompted Pharco Club officials to enter serious negotiations to sign the player on loan. This move will relieve pressure on Zamalek regarding the foreign player issue and allow the club to register new foreign players in preparation for the next season. Al-Jafali refuses to leave Zamalek unless he plays in the Egyptian Premier League, as he is committed to playing in Egypt. He was offered to Al-Ittihad Alexandria and Al-Masry Port Said, but Al-Ittihad rejected the player based on the wishes of technical director Ahmed Sami, as well as Al-Masry Club. He was close to joining Pharco in the coming days, provided that all financial details are agreed upon between the two clubs, amid a shared desire to quickly resolve the matter. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
