ESPN's campus put on red alert by intruder as employees are told to say inside
Plenty of changes have been happening at the company in recent weeks. Earlier this week, the 'First Take' studio in New York City briefly lost power. Last week, 'Around the Horn' ended its 23-year run on the airwaves. Two weeks ago, the last edition of SportsCenter in Los Angeles was broadcast.
But perhaps the biggest surprise for the company in May 2025 was a visit from a black bear on Thursday.
ESPN betting expert Joe Fortenbaugh was on the air for his radio show 'Joe and Q' and reported live about the warning system in place to let employees know to stay indoors.
'This yellow emergency light has been flashing all over the campus for the last 15 minutes or so,' Fortenbaugh said.
'There's no sound that comes with it. So when you don't accompany the sound with a flashing emergency light, no one knows what the hell's going on... so everyone in radio, naturally we're all low IQ people walking around: "What does the yellow light mean? How come there isn't a sound? What's going on?"

'We finally got to the bottom of it: there's a bear on the campus here of ESPN. It's the bear alert. So everyone on campus stay inside. There's a black bear on the campus at the current moment.'
One of the show's producers remarked that the bear was spotted a few buildings away from their studio.
However, the point was made that there are sliding glass doors to get to ESPN's cafeteria near the center of the 123 acre site.
DailyMail.com has reached out to ESPN for more information on this incident.
ESPN has been headquartered in Bristol, less than 20 miles west of the state capitol of Hartford, since the company was founded in 1979.
The network has multiple studios across the country and around the world, but a majority of their operations are based around the 1.2million square-foot, 18-building complex in central Connecticut.

Former US soldier suspected of killing 4 in Montana remains at large
The former U.S. soldier suspected of killing four people at a Montana bar was still at large early Sunday and may be armed after escaping in a stolen vehicle containing clothes and camping gear, officials said. Authorities believe 45-year-old Michael Paul Brown killed four people on Friday morning at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Missoula in a valley hemmed in by mountains. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said at a press conference Sunday that Brown committed the shooting with a rifle that law enforcement believes was his personal weapon. All the victims were adults between 50 and 70 years old. One of the victims was the bartender. Knudsen warned residents in the town of just over 9,000 people that Brown, who lived next door to the bar where he was a regular, could come back to the area. 'This is an unstable individual who walked in and murdered four people in cold blood for no reason whatsoever. So there absolutely is concern for the public,' Knudsen said. Numerous public events were canceled over the weekend as the search entered its third day, according to local Facebook pages. Investigators are considering all possible options for Brown's whereabouts, the attorney general said. That includes searching the woods where Brown hunted and camped while he was a kid. But Knudsen noted that, during peak tourist season in western Montana, some law enforcement officials would have to return to their local jurisdictions for their regular responsibilities. Brown served in the Army as an armor crewman from 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq from early 2004 until March 2005, according to Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, an Army spokesperson. Brown was in the Montana National Guard from 2006 to March 2009, Castro said, and left military service at the rank of sergeant. Brown's niece, Clare Boyle, told the AP her uncle has struggled with mental illness for years and she and other family members repeatedly sought help. 'This isn't just a drunk/high man going wild,' she said in a Facebook message. 'It's a sick man who doesn't know who he is sometimes and frequently doesn't know where or when he is either.' Knudsen said on Sunday that Brown was 'known' to local law enforcement before the shooting. It was widely believed that he knew at least some of the victims, given how close he lived to the bar. Law enforcement released a photograph of Brown from surveillance footage taken shortly after the fatal shootings. He appeared to be barefoot and in minimal clothing. But law enforcement now believes Brown ditched the vehicle he escaped in and stole a different one that had camping gear, shoes and clothes in it — leaving open the possibility that Brown is now clothed. The last time that law enforcement saw Brown was on Friday afternoon, but there was 'some confusion' because there were multiple white vehicles involved, Knudsen said. There is a $7,500 reward for any information that leads to Brown's capture. 'This is still Montana. Montanans know how to take care of themselves. But please, if you have any sightings, call 911,' Knudsen said.

Whale killed and passenger thrown overboard after boat collision in New Jersey
A whale was killed after it was struck by a motorboat off the New Jersey shore, with the forceful collision sending one passenger overboard. Video footage shared online of the sudden collision showed the motorboat rocking back and forth as the 20-foot-long minke whale swam away in Barnegat Bay on Saturday afternoon. The crash nearly tipped the boat over and sent one passenger flying overboard into the water. The person who went overboard was able to tread water next to the boat until they were saved, authorities said. The whale was later found dead after it went to rest on a sandbar in shallow water, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, a non-profit rescue and release organization, said. Officials with the organization weren't able to reach within 30 yards of the whale due to tidal conditions and were therefore unable to conduct a more in-depth examination of the animal, the organization said in a statement. 'At this point, we really don't have much to go on,' Jay Pagel, the stranding coordinator at the center, told the Associated Press. 'The side of the animal that we were able to observe had no obvious marks on it that we could see. But again, our visibility was very limited.' Pagel said there were reports that the whale had been injured before the collision. He also noted other video footage shows the whale appearing to make contact with a pontoon boat after the first accident. The whale will be towed to a state park on Monday for a necropsy, which will determine its official cause of death. The necropsy is expected to take several hours to complete. The agency is now urging boaters to use caution in the area and to keep at least 150 feet away from the whale carcass for the time being.

Bronzed Brady: Patriots finally to unveil QB statue on Friday
August 3 - The long-awaited statue of Tom Brady, delayed due to scheduling issues, finally will be unveiled Friday outside of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced in June 2024 that the team would be erecting the 12-foot statue during that season. However, when Brady's new employer, Fox Sports, changed plans to send the retired quarterback and its No. 1 broadcast team to Gillette on a game day, the statue dedication was put on hold. Now, a short ceremony will be held Friday ahead of the Patriots' preseason game against the Washington Commanders. Space constraints will allow only limited viewing, but the ceremony will be screened on the videoboards inside the stadium, ESPN reported. Kraft and Brady are expected to speak. "We've had it in storage for over a year. We had hoped to do it a year ago, but Tommy is so busy. It was just hard to find a time," Kraft told Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams Show" last week. "When he got his announcing job with Fox -- by the way, I think he's off the charts with what he's doing. How lucky are we to have the 199th pick [in the 2000 NFL Draft] be the greatest player to every play in the over 100-year history of the NFL? He played for us and he's just a great human being. We are excited to honor him before the game next Friday." It will be a nice culmination to a week of birthday celebrations for Brady, who turned 48 on Sunday. Brady led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships during his tenure in New England from 2000-19. Last June, Kraft said the Brady statue will be the only one in the plaza. "(The statue) will stand alone in the plaza outside of the Hall of Fame to symbolize his position, not as the greatest in franchise history, but as the greatest in all of NFL history," Kraft said. Brady was a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player who holds the league records for completions (7,753), pass attempts (12,050), passing yards (89,214) and touchdown passes (649). He added his record seventh Super Bowl championship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 season. --Field Level Media
